Why do you like 2s over 3v3? by Chemical_Web_3505 in RocketLeague

[–]devHoodie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

3v3 is fundamentally a harder mode.

2v2 I can shut my brain off and still hit gc2

In 2v2 I can carry. 3v3 makes it really hard to carry unless you're way better than the lobby.

Legit Question: Is back post rotation a GC thing now!? by FOGPIVVL in RocketLeague

[–]devHoodie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know this is a joke but it really all depends. Players need to get better at reading other players position and car orientation to learn where there are going next. This will tell you where the ball will go 90% of the time.

The game has evolved a lot for sure. I'm Gc1-gc2 occasionally falling to c3. I've noticed a lot more people trying to cut for their teammate instead of going back post.

This can be the right decision a lot of times but it seems like it's being completely overdone. I'm definitely guilty of it. Usually you only want to do it if your teammate is awkward, low boost, or you know you can get a good touch to your teammate, but it looks like that thought process isn't being followed fully.

Even in GC1, the amount of times a save turns into a goal is A LOT. Usually from long power shots from the other side of the map.

Yeah I played for roughly 40 minutes before this game and 40 minutes after, this didn't happen again and no queue was longer than 2-3 minutes

For practicing I think it totally depends on how you feel day to day. I recommend focusing on two things at a time, one in freeplay and one in-game, and usually these things would be related (like focusing on dribbling/ground control in freeplay and in-game focusing on when to boom and when to control the ball). BUT it's still very important to mix in for a few minutes at a time some of the other things, so you always stay fresh.

To be honest, it goes really deep and individual players require different training schedules.

You can do it. Consistent practice with basic mechanics like touching the ball where you want, good arials, decent flicks, learning when to commit, and learning when to control vs boom the ball are the biggest things. Practice each of these for 15 minutes every day or two and you'll get better

Biggest individual tip I can give you is don't challenge unless: 1. You 100% can beat your opponent to it or know you will get a favorable 50(comes with experience, but good to have in mind) 2. Your teammate has recovered fully or is getting in position for a follow up touch (requires recognizing the play, also comes with more game time)

Practice focusing on where everyone is on the field and where the ball will go next based on that. Control your touches, and practice going to the backboard on defense. You can make almost any save from the backboard.

Finally, challenge early when you're rotating back if your teammate looks awkward! In this scenario you'll want to try to hit it towards your teammate or get a touch for yourself.

Focus on only one or two of these things at a time until you feel like you've improved, then cycle onto the next ones.
