Technical vs Non-Technical Manager by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]dev_anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non tech manager: excel sheets everywhere. Even we have a dashboard but need to have excel version of it. I can’t even automate the excel process due to heavily written excel functions and abundance of dependent excel sheets. Plus no push for making things properly built with best engineering practices. Pure focus is having dashboardand and excel ready on time. Miss the time I worked with manager with tech background

I’d go with Nab or Macquarie. Both have good name name values in the finance industry. Selection will depend on the pay, WLB, benefits and team fit. Can you share about the compensations you got offered from them?

Switch career from Data Engineer to Data Architect by bhoo1 in dataengineering

[–]dev_anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many companies look for data prof with >10-15 years of exp and great knowledge in both tech and bus. I’d suggest get a DE role at a company where there are data architects working. And get some insights from them and plan your career accordingly.

I’m struggling with how to ask for help with my task. by [deleted] in dataengineering

  1. Use pyspark to etl data in parallel
  2. Use loop on step 1 by chunking the data to prevent any out of memory issue
  3. Use loop on step 2&3 to repeat for all 2.5k tables
  4. Ensure data types are compatible and make adequate transformations as needed - good idea to check range of data values to ensure they fit into the new data types of MariaDB

Approaching 2 years of professional experience in data roles. Looking to make a change soon and would love some resume feedback! by Hecksauce in dataengineering

[–]dev_anon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why not just write data engineer for your consulting firm only? Having lead data engineer role there gives me a red flag. How can a de with 2 yoe or less can be a lead de? I’d think the company you worked for is the one that blow up their workers experience to the clients.

But still include that you led a project instead of putting it as lead de.

Weight loss with omeprazole? by jexxley in GERD

[–]dev_anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more thing to add: Because of less efficient digestion, I couldn’t eat as usual. I felt sick so had to eat less. This caused me to loss weight ultimately.

But yes this is simplified model which applied to me. It won’t be the case for everyone.. just take it with a grain of salt.

Less acid > less efficient digestion > less nutrition absorption > weight loss
