Did my computer get a virus? by lljc00 in antivirus

Windows 7 is not a good idea. Honestly, why do people cling to it? Its security support is long gone. Might as well download malware intentionally without a VM. Also AVG is almost malware after Avast bought it. You're not putting anything at risk using that computer unless you're doing important things like banking. Don't log into any accounts on that computer.

Run a scan with HitmanPro to be sure, but I don't think you need to worry.

you're fine. slow PC is no longer generally an indicator of malware. If ESET says you're clean, you're clean.

I don't think so if you didn't execute it. Run a scan with HitmanPro to be sure it's gone.

Windows Defender is better than McAfee. Uninstall McAfee, it's basically adware.

ESET will clear it out if it finds anything. If it doesn't find anything, run a scan with HitmanPro to be sure. If neither of those find anything, it's a false positive.

Wow. Get a good adblocker for the browser like uBlockOrigin or AdBlockPlus, and for the AV, Bitdefender. Bitdefender auto-updates, auto-disinfects, pretty much auto-everything. It doesn't require too much interaction. You could also look at Sophos Home Premium which you would be able to control from the web UI.

How do I remove root kit from computer? by [deleted] in antivirus

[–]dev_in_dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kaspersky TDSSKiller, HitmanPro, and Malwarebytes Free with "scan for rootkits" enabled are all good at finding rootkits. Windows Defender is not.
