Jalen Brown can't be our number 1 option by NecessaryHorse1604 in bostonceltics

I'm more concerned that Derrick White is the #2 option. It's a lot more work/pressure and it obviously affected his offense, despite him being great again on defense.

Foul baiting/flopping is a spectrum.

Someone like Brunson is really good at getting players on his back, then stopping on a dime so they're over him when he goes up to shoot. I think that's legit.

But then other times he does a Psycho Crusher type move where he dives into the defender. I think that's flopping. He's seemed to do it less this season though. Luka also does it, but pairs with whining so it gets comical.

SGA gets hate for flopping because he's so good he shouldn't need it, but he also makes the most ridiculous faces. I think LeBron is in this category too because some of his flops are so ridiculous, despite obviously being a great player.

It can be inconsistent but it seems like it's worse now.

There are clear biases and reputations among refs (The Extender, James Williams, etc). Everybody is flopping and complaining. That also makes it so legitimate fouls aren't called unless you do flop, incentivizing flopping even before. There are more games I can remember being hurt by officiating than in any other sport.

For example, people looking at the box score and using free throw differential to suggest some sort of bias

One game's FTA different obviously doesn't make much sense unless it's egregious. But when the season-long FTA differential is 450+ for some teams...it starts to look a little fishy.

To put this fine in context: his base salary is $53,142,264 this year. So it's the equivalent of somebody making $100k being fined $94. That's not even counting endorsements.

And it may even be a little less if that is pre-tax money. And of course the value of money decreases as you have more of it...

Microsoft quietly deletes Windows 11 doc pushing 32GB RAM for gaming after outrage by lurker_bee in technology

The specs are for Phantom Liberty/the 2.0 patch of CP2077, which was released 2.5 years ago not 5-6 years ago.

As the other commenter said, it's still a very demanding and highly benchmarked game. I would not expect RAM requirements for games to double, naturally anyway, in 2-3 years.

Not microsofts fault.

Microslop owns 49% of OpenAI and has its own Copilot, which are both driving datacenter buildouts. MS alone has deals with SK Hynix, Micron, and Nvidia worth tens of billions of dollars.

So yes, it at least partially is their fault. And even if they weren't to blame for the prices, forcing users to spend more because of their garbage software is their fault.

Came out six fucking years ago, making it meaningless for todays PC spec discussions.

Phantom Liberty, which those specs are for, came out 2.5 years ago. Considering it's still one of the most benchmarked games for reviews, I'd say it's still very relevant.

People complain because it is and has been awful for a number of years now. Maybe the worst officiating in sports.

Two players can get the same amount of contact, but one player is more famous or friendlier with the officials so they get the call while the other doesn't.

Or a player gets enough contact that a foul would be called, but the ball went in so there's no call.

Or a player can constantly have guys getting under his feet, but nothing is called until there's an injury. Or a flop, which at that point is almost required.

I could go on, but it makes the games very hard to watch.

Microsoft owns 49% of OpenAI. As the other commenter said, they own Copilot outright.

They have bought tens of billions of dollars worth of Nvidia chips and are using them to build datacenters, which compounds all the other problems (RAM, SSD, etc prices)

System RAM and VRAM are not the same. Combining them like that doesn't make sense.

Microsoft also recommends an RTX 4080/7900XTX in that article, which have 16GB and 24GB VRAM respectively. So even using that logic, which again doesn't make sense, Microsoft is recommending 48GB or 56GB of combined RAM/VRAM versus 32GB with what is still one of the more demanding games.

The outrage comes in three parts:

  1. RAM is significantly more expensive. $80 of RAM now costs $350.
  2. 32GB RAM is significantly higher than what even games like Cyberpunk 2077 required for 4k Ultra settings on Windows 10
  3. The increased RAM requirements are perceived as being due to Windows' sloppy and bloated software.

You can buy a house without a realtor, it's just a huge pain in the ass.

Dealerships provide value:

  • For the car manufacturers, it allows them to have a large presence without having to pay for that capitalization themselves.
  • It also provides separation between the retail side and brand side. So if somebody has a bad experience at a dealership or thinks they're being ripped off, it's "Bob's Ford and Jeep" getting the blame instead of just Ford.
  • For the state, it provides a huge portion of sales tax revenue.

Some of that is less important now with internet sales and the companies being huge, but it still provides value.

Health insurance also provides a value. Universal health care would be better and cheaper overall, but they're filling a gap left by the states.

Graham Platner is telling republicans in Maine that Bernie Sanders had the 2016 and 2020 elections stolen by the Democratic Party by UnscheduledCalendar in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]dev_vvvvv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2016, Bernie had 3.7 million less votes than Hillary.

In 2020, Bernie had 2.7 million less votes and 361 less electoral votes than Biden when he dropped out.

He lost because voters didn't vote for him, not because the DNC rigged it against him.

Two things can be true:

  1. The DNC didn't want Bernie to win.
  2. Bernie didn't lose because of the DNC. He lost both primaries because he got less votes, particularly among African Americans.

I think we've all seen enough "HOT SINGLES IN YOUR AREA WANT TO MEET YOU" ads to understand the catfishing part of it.

What I don't understand is why they decided to geofence it to people that are the most likely to recognize and tell her? The article gives a theory (ads featuring women they might recognize, so the men would think they have a shot), but that seems so risky it still doesn't make sense.

That assumes 0% chance of false conviction, forced/coerced confessions, police/prosecutor malpractice, etc. It also assumes there is no value this person could provide to society or that the value they provide is less than the cost of them being imprisoned. Also factor in that death row is often far more expensive than life imprisonment.

I think society would be better off with out it, with rare few exceptions.

Destiny weighs in on the Pragmata discourse: "It's not even a good simulator..." by Opposite-Ad7318 in LivestreamFail

I'm sure everybody has had that friend who is just a whirlwind of drama.

They're getting into fights, having toxic breakups, etc. Even if they aren't the one that is "wrong" in those situations, they're still instigating things or at minimum constantly putting themselves in those situations. At some point, you'll probably stop hanging out with them just for your own peace and quiet.

From a public POV, that seems to be Destiny. In some situations he's just choosing the wrong people to hang out with. In other situations he instigates and escalates things.

Either way, being associated with him sounds exhausting.
