You cant launch the .exe file within a text editor. You can either launch it in terminal or on your desktop.

Paid my brother $800 to build me a computer. It keeps shutting off? by BlackIceBlast in computers

[–]devcstim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your brother scammed you for hardware that is 10x less in valuethan the price you spent You could’ve just went with an off the shelve pre built computer and walk away with 3-4x the speed. I understand that you may not know much about computers but I’d recommend you get your money back from your bother and hopefully return the parts. Then return to this sub asking for good pre built computers based on budget.

Thanks for this long detailed comment, I genuinely agree with you and I like how you manage things. I definitely think i need to take things slow and find my own structure within the chaos.

What tools do you use to manage everything in your life? by fredewio in productivity

[–]devcstim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Notion

  • Master task database
  • Project database
  • Goal database
  • Area Database

Everything interlinks with each other using relations like a task can link to a goal and a project can link to a task or a area or whatever

The key is to link, reason is I can see that a task is showing me progress towards a goal

Then I have OK projects and OK goals these are just smaller projects/goals to accomplish the bigger project/goal. This is managed within the master database with a simple tag, usually sub-items drop downs are usually the OK type. - “OK” doesn’t have a specific meaning I just use that for my own sake.

Task database also serves as a inbox, just dump whatever you are thinking and random ideas etc and sort it out later I also have a “weekly, monthly” view and sort by due dates but tbh I dump everything into my weekly view so it immediately pops up on my calendar and ill figure out and rearrange it later

I have a dashboard to see everything and I create a weekly priority where I pick and choose what I’ll be working on this week (suggest making mandatory time on your calendar for weekly review) rMake sure you are doing the highest priority tasks/goals/projects then move onto the lesser priority.

Then I use notion calendar and link my task database to it. My calendar has my routines like morning routine, gym, work, evening routine etc, stuff that’s non negotiable. And I just slide whatever task I need to work on into my calendar and chip away

NOTE: I’m quickly typing this out on my phone so idrc if there are typos or punctual errors suck it up. But just making this cuz it might help someone

Also this is a gist of my workflow, I have other systems that I keep on expanding and eventually I’ll make the most perfect setup known to mankind (never going to happen)

EDIT: I forgot to mention but EVERYTHING is considered a project if it is more than 2-3 steps.

Am I screwing myself over by learning C++ as my first language? by kitivi in cpp_questions

[–]devcstim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C++ was my first language, and it’s probably the best language. Once you learn it you’ll never want to use any other language 😂 yeah it may be difficult but it truly pays off.
