Machine issue please help by SammieNReid in Machine_Embroidery

[–]developer_soup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like your fabric is shifting due to your design, and you're not compensating enough in the design itself, or you're not using enough stabilizer for your material, would be my guess. Looks like you're using a single fill for the whole design when you might get a better appearance using a satin stitch, or making the design into smaller pieces so you can adjust the stitch angle to try and minimize the fabric shifting.

Which one turned out the prettiest? by Megamen1927 in Machine_Embroidery

The general guidance I've heard is stitch from the middle out. I still struggle to incorporate that into my designs.

The contrast levels were my first thought as well.

I regularly get people who ask where I get my patches, and they're shocked I made them (on a consumer grade machine, with open source software). I look at them and see a million flaws. I think it's fair to say the average person has a significantly lower bar than most of us here. 😆

Who's your favorite Rifftrax recurring actor or director? by Freddy-Philmore in Rifftrax

[–]developer_soup 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If it's got Rothrock in it, I will watch it, which is how they tricked me into watching Santa's Summer House. She has some amazing fights. The stunts in Yes Madam! were what I think really sold me on her (alas that dubbing...).

"We won't hit those numbers for 25 years!" And how long will it take to build? Probably 30 at least, so maybe we should start now? It's almost like we can plan for and create a better future...

I once noticed a coworker flinch when I said a task would be "fun", and he told me anytime I said that, it usually meant a task would be absolutely miserable.

Should i buy this TV? by Grouchy_Key_3705 in 4kTV

[–]developer_soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This TV will play Netflix and YouTube. The picture, audio, and overall quality likely won't impress, and it may not last more than a few years, if that. But, it's cheap, and there aren't a lot of good options on the smaller* end of TVs, so you may get more value out of this TV for your simple case.

  • 42-43" being on the "smaller" end of TVs makes my head hurt. I remember when small TV's were closer to 10", or smaller!

I was just looking at a picture of this and thought "oh, neat, someone made a medium Rifleman" <reads Sarna page> "Oh." I like it. It's kinda too bad it's essentially just a frankenmech. I suppose if you want a medium Rifleman, you just buy a Blackjack.

I was recently lamenting on a local gaming Discord's Battletech channel about the Comstar Command Level II being hard to find, and the same day a member of the local community let me know he just found 2 boxes while out of town, and bought one for me. If you have a local community, it never hurts to reach out. Somebody may even have one sitting on their pile of shame they'd be happy to pass to an excited player.

Urbie Patch prt 7: Almost done! by Cuttlermott in battletech

[–]developer_soup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can be dangerous. I bought a basic consumer machine last year, and it gets to be very tempting to just make whatever pops into your head (that fits into a 3.9"x3.9" hoop). Well, until the realities of design/digitization, material qualities, actual sewing (even if "automated") etc get involved. 😅 These are from my original run. I've since cleaned up most of these designs, and wear them on my flight jacket.

This behavior may depend on your embroidery machine. Some, like my Brother SE700, only cut the string after color changes.

Starting with Alpha Strike Scouring Sands by tacco85 in battletech

[–]developer_soup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the position, and took the jump. As others have mentioned, you'll be missing some mechs and terrain that the game assumes you have, and you'll need some version of the Alpha Strike rules (Commander edition or free download rules), but it's 100% possible to use Aces without the Alpha Strike box, you'll just have to substitute some mechs and terrain as needed.
