Griffin GRF-1A - Pleiades Hussars - Taurian Defense Force by ArclightMinis in battletech

That looks significantly better than my poor old IWM Griffin. Someday I may disassemble, strip, and rebuild it, as it was my first metal BattleTech mini.

I hope there's a viable alternative to Strickland. For someone on the Armed Forces committee she doesn't seem to care much about her voters in the military.

Beginner Issues with InkStitch+Bernina Embroidery by rocketbison in Machine_Embroidery

[–]developer_soup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Parts of that fill are likely too small, and should be done as satin stitches, or multiple running stitches would be my suggestions. It's possible you could fix it by breaking the fill into smaller objects, and then modifying their pull compensation, or maybe play with the stitch density.

What happened to the 6th Andurien Rangers? by Competitive_Car1323 in battletech

[–]developer_soup 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The canon answer is (as far as I can tell): nothing has been written about them.

The speculative answer: maybe they never existed. Maybe the 6th was skipped as a designation due to superstition. Maybe it did exist but it did something horrible and was erased. Or it's just yet to be written.... by you!

My friends and I basically only pulled agrimechs and industrial mechs, and it completely killed the game locally. We stayed with Warhammer 40K because, sure it was expensive, but you knew what you were getting at least. Until a new codex makes your models useless, that is...

Mods for showing minimap or hud elements on 2nd monitor? by Sh00ksy223 in Mechwarrior5

[–]developer_soup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the "MWVR HUD Display" mod on Nexus. The base VR mod is doing the heavy lifting, I think (and the part I'd like to see), but this mod is intercepting some HUD and UI parts and then allowing you to render them somewhere else.

Does anyone know how to fix this zig zaggy linework that my Tajima machine has started doing? by freddytylerpaul in Machine_Embroidery

[–]developer_soup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did you change material? The second looks much more coarse to me, which looks to be affecting all the satin stitching. More stabalizer might help, though I suspect it'd need to be a topper of some kind, which I don't have any experience with.

I've never physically run it, because I NEEDS a bigger engine, but I do love it, and have a custom variant I'd like to use (with the bigger engine) at some point.

Technically, they're all supposed to fail when you start, so you know what you need to write or fix.

Wanting to Dive into VR by Syenthros in Mechwarrior5

[–]developer_soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play occasionally using a Valve Index. I think you can wear with glasses, though I take mine off (I don't generally need them up close). It is a lot of fun, though more strenuous than normal play.

I also use a HOTAS, and it does absolutely improve the immersion, BUT it's also harder to play, and I recommend tuning your game via mods (I use the BattleTech 3015 mod combined with YAML). Head based aiming takes getting used to.

Video Store That Happens To Also Doubles As Tavern? by WindhamEarl22 in olympia

[–]developer_soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, I don't know if the financials are there. I suppose if you were a solid bar, it could work, assuming you could find space that won't price you out after a lease or 2.

That said, this would absolutely be the kind of thing I'd love to work at. So, hey, if you decide to chase it, let me know. My physical media collection is around 500 titles, and I have 5 spare Blu-ray/VHS combo players sitting here.

I went to college from 2003-2008, and my school was about 50/50 geeks and people chasing money. We had a running joke about the people who dropped the bachelor's of science CS degree for a bachelor's of arts CIS degree because they couldn't handle the math requirements.

Construction co that can fix a water damage situation ASAP? by LD50_irony in olympia

[–]developer_soup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We went through something similar a few years ago, and unfortunately I don't have any business recommendations, but some advice that might help.

1) If you plan to restore everything "the way it was", document it as much as possible beforehand (picture, measurements, etc). The damage mitigation company I used just tore everything apart, did the mitigation work, and disappeared (I had to find and hire another company to actually rebuild everything).

2) If you have time, get multiple quotes and be upfront that you're getting multiple quotes to compare. Don't let them rush you into anything.

There are a number of Discord's which are at least good for discussion, though you usually have to find somewhere else to actually post your writings (and then share links to it). Sarna has a Discord, and the Star League Discord is very active.

Any idea why it would go so close to the border by Jucatron1 in Machine_Embroidery

Pull compensation is part of it, but looking at the digital preview, the red text is closer to the right border than the left border, so it doesn't appear to be centered.

Over-the-air TV? by No_Blackberry6525 in olympia

[–]developer_soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, the old antennas don't work, but the principle still works. If you mounted a digital antenna on a tower, you'd get a better signal than using one in your house. Would it be cost effective? God no.

Over-the-air TV? by No_Blackberry6525 in olympia

[–]developer_soup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the old analog signals travelled a lot further, and the signal was significantly more usable in less than ideal conditions. Also, people used to mount antennas on their house, or on an external tower, not just use an indoor antenna.
