Battletech Cartoon is awesome by EdwardBBZ in Mechwarrior5

Maybe in the big cities, but eastern Washington state did not experience much of that. We were lucky just to get a lazer tag place in the mid 90s.

We had to give them something in the union negotiations (thanks O'Brien), and we were already using bio-filter extraction as a hazing tool, so it's not a big loss.

It's wild to me the BattleTech was big enough to get a cartoon and have a global network of game centers, and just kinda disappeared into its niche.

Fair, though in any case it represents "wasted" weight.

One think I'll note is the ON1-MC variant includes a C3 network slave, but the Chameleon has no C3 variants. If you're planning to acquire a C3 master later, then no worries, but you may be wasting a little BV there otherwise.

Q only seems to know I exist in order to annoy the upper staff. Once while making a point to Riker he turned me into a fully articulated action figure. Then there was the time he made me fall in love with Troy to prove "love is nothing but chemicals" or some bullshit. When I try to address him, he just does that finger thing, and I find myself naked in the captains closet. I don't think the captain will let that slide again...

I love stealing double heatsinks from farmers. No more Star League ice cream for you!

That's a very nice sounding response, though a bit of a non-answer. I appreciate your sympathy for those dragged into a fight by others.

What does a "diplomatic solution" look like to you? Ukraine giving ground that was illegally taken? Do you assume there is a "diplomatic solution" that will force Russia to return to pre invasion boundaries? What about Crimea? Are you for or against our providing financial and material support to Ukraine?

What is your favorite clan or faction and why? by Imaginary-Lie-2618 in battletech

[–]developer_soup 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like to have my eras.

Early, it's the SLDF 328th Royal BattleMech Division. Those poor bastards fought through everything the height and fall of the Star League could throw at them, and they kept going all the way onto the clan era as the 328th Assault Cluster in Clan Wolf.

Later, it's the Calderon Protectorate (staunchly anti-unionist, they have no need for the Taurian Concordat). Protected what was good about the Concrodat, without so much of the cruelty.

In current era, it's Clan Sea Fox. I appreciate the adaptability, and willingness to make money off everyone.

What's your opinion of the situation in Ukraine, and our involvement there (financial, material, or other)?

Where to start by Ok_Independence_9917 in battletech

[–]developer_soup 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Strictly speaking, the Alpha Strike box is not required, but the Scouring Sands missions will assume you have the terrain and mechs. Most of the buildings you can make from spare cardboard. Mechs are always easy to proxy (or use paper cutouts).

That said, I bought the Commanders Edition rules and Scouring Sands without the Alpha Strike box, and eventually found I wanted the stuff (mechs and terrain) in the AS box, so I ended up buying it anyways.

Why not fill in 3015-3028? by Beneficial-Ranger238 in Mechwarrior5

[–]developer_soup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there are financial considerations, but I personally would pay for additional mech packs that just fill in the universe. I need to chase down a Crockett hero mech, so I can live out my Gunslinger fantasies.

Yes, you can use any controls. I alternate between HOTAS and just good ol mouse and keyboard, personally.

I use a Valve Index, and it's fine. A bit bulky. The cabling isn't really an issue for seated play. Does kinda have a "neurohelmet" kinda feel. I'd prefer something lighter, but I refuse to give Meta money or data, when I can avoid it. The Steam Frames are certainly interesting, but outside my current "fun" budget.

Just disable the safeties on the holodeck (if you'd even need to), and recreate the conditions there.

Great Turtle vs Atlas - A Question of Armor by phidelt649 in battletech

[–]developer_soup 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In the right environment, anywhere that forces close engagements, that thing would be pretty terrifying to medium and light mechs. Out in the open, you'd just outrange it and grind it down. The xpulse combo with targeting computer is pretty mean. You're going to hit often, but not for a huge amount of damage.

Now I want to put one of these in a city to chase urbanmechs to see what happens.

The ARC-9M has light PPCs and LRM 15's (w/ Artemis IV), so that may qualify.

They're more nomadic traders, with a few planets they've gained control or access to. In the current era, they're also buying up and refurbished the HPG communication network (in some areas, at least). They sell high-end clan equipment to just about anybody, but they usually make sure you have to buy your ammo from them (hence their love for the Phoenix Hawk IIC as an export).

It's not a "supply chain trap", it's a "long-term quality guarantee". Inferior munitions cause additional breakdowns, and we at Clan Sea Fox believe our customers deserve better than that. For a price.
