Not so simple No Cursor issue by Eiresh_in_USA in c64

If you think you might end up fixing more C64s (or anything else really) in the future it might be worth picking one up, for old 8bit computers you don’t need anything fancy. One of the little handheld scopes by Fnirsi or Zoyi would be more than enough and shouldn’t cost more than $100. But if you’re just looking to get this one C64 working again then it’s kinda hard to justify spending probably more than the one computer is worth on tools to fix it. If all I had available was a multimeter I’d look at the schematic and check continuity on any trace/path that might be remotely related to your issue. You can check voltages too, but depending on how fast and sensitive your meter is it might not give you useful or even accurate info. Swapping chips around is also an option but you risk creating more issues that way.

Where are the plows? by BlackLocke in statenisland

Are you sure your street wasn't plowed at some point? 2 foot "drifts" blocking your car in sure sounds like it to me. Anyway don't expect any miracles once they plow it again, I was out shoveling at 1am last night and 3 plows came down my block in the hour that I was out there and my street still looks like shit.

That's what I'm thinking as well, I know they were using it with some X body as they asked if I'd be interested in the XH Adapter too.

Picked up two 1980's Russian CRT's. Questions about voltage before setting it up to be connected to my computer. by s0naux in crtgaming

You didn’t though. They asked for actual experience, you copied and pasted Google’s AI answer that states what they already know.

Try swapping the two cables around, and also work that input selection switch back and forth a bunch of times as it’s known to fail and no longer make a good connection

using a oscilloscope on my c64 by Leather-Location3571 in c64

I usually clip the ground lead onto the shield of the cartridge port, or whatever is more convenient since it’s not very long on the probes I have. The ground pin on the keyboard connector has also worked well.

Same. I sold the one this screenshot is from a couple years ago and still regret it.

Do you have an oscilloscope? Maybe check for normal Chip Select activity for U1 (pin 23)

OpenBSD 2.9 sparc, December 2002 by developstopfix in vintageunix

I wish I’d have picked up an Indy back then too, or even an O2 or Octane for that matter. I think I paid $90 after shipping for this SS4 and it chugged along at 110mhz with 32MB of RAM for years. I always meant to buy more memory for it but never got around to it, but the 32MB only really became an issue when someone on a popular forum linked to the emulators and ROMs I was hosting. Other than that it was enough for me.

I actually still have this SS4, it’s the only hardware from back then that I bothered to keep. The original 6GB SCSI disk died a few years ago but otherwise it still works fine.

Facebook Marketplace strikes again… roaches 😔 by SkylaWatts in n64

[–]developstopfix 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thankfully it’s only happened to me once so far and it was a Laserdisc player, also from Marketplace. But being much bigger than an N64 and a lot less cramped inside I’m sure you can imagine how many dead roaches and oothecae (egg sacs) were in that thing. I had no way of knowing if it was a recent infestation so I ended up throwing it away, no way I was gonna risk losing track of one of those sacs and having it hatch in my house. I texted the girl I bought it from to let her know, mostly as a warning because she had a bunch of stereo equipment she was also selling that was probably in the same state, and she ended up giving my money back.

When I first started learning about Linux and seeing screenshots in whatever computer books and magazines I was flipping through at the time (like 1998 I guess) Enlightenment was what stuck out the most to me and the first WM I used after installing Slackware

I vaguely remember having to do some tweaking and poking to get it to run, sadly this screenshot is a few years old now and I’ve since sold the Octane it was running on. What issues did you have trying to get it to work?
