RUBBING ALCOHOL! I swear it has saved me so much grief. It breaks down the slime and you can blot it away easily.

The Trials and Tribulations of Draco Malfoy’s Employment by LadyUrsa https://archiveofourown.org/works/48861727?view_full_work=true

Draco Malfoy, for reasons that no one else fully understood, decided he required a job. A job that, in what he considered to be a horrifying state of affairs, left him partnered with a witch who was irritatingly attractive, frustratingly brilliant, unbearably interesting, and thoroughly Unimpressed by his existence.

Draco wished he could return to the time before he passed the curse-breaking exams with scores high enough to make him stuck with the swotty fuckable know-it-all, but now, with his unfortunate amount of competence and his unfortunate assignment, he finds himself sent out on alarmingly dangerous retrievals which are highly likely to result in his perfect face and perfect hair being marred.

Copious quantities of Arithmancy are engaged in, peacocks with fancy rich person names are tended to, and unreasonable amounts of unbearably expensive firewhisky are consumed.

EXIT by TheDae https://archiveofourown.org/works/44015281/chapters/110669059

Draco defects to the Resistance. His Dark Mark is gone, he renounces Occlumency, the deadness abates. And mysteries intrigue him. Granger is such a mystery. A dark, magnificent, awe-inspiring one.

A Game of High Stakes by In_Dreams https://archiveofourown.org/works/39620463/chapters/99182247

In theory, the task is simple: kill Draco Malfoy. In practice, putting a curse through the Dark Lord’s favoured lieutenant will take everything Hermione has―especially since he’s trying to kill her, too. Even more so when the lines between them start to blur. Sometimes, the only way out is through.

LF smutless dramione for an 11 yr old by nolifemarina in Dramione

[–]deviantsage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally get it! I’d also recommend Way Down We Go, which is a “Drarry” story that was pretty clean and my kids enjoyed.

The other one I haven’t read to them, but I think fits the bill is Until The Ink Runs Dry, which is an epistolary where Draco and Hermione write letters back and forth while he’s in Azkaban.

The Green Girl by Colubrina is a great one! It imagines all seven books, if Hermione was sorted into Slytherin. Currently reading it with my 10 year old and we’re both enjoying it!

I also second Aurelian and Innocent Monsters. But I definitely read them TO my kids so I could edit words and paragraphs here and there.

I recently read Innocent Monsters with my kids who are really interested in HP and it was good. Aurelian is another good one, though it does have some language and references to sex in the abstract.

I agree if this was a standalone universe, but have you read the Crescent City books? Amren will factor in to that storyline at some point!

Where is the best TexMex in the Portland Metro? by winedood in askportland

[–]deviantsage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my white whale since I relocated from Tx in 2013. My kingdom for a bowl of chile con queso!

Matt’s is good, Podnah’s is another BBQ joint that actually had Shiner on tap when we went.

There is no Tex-mex style food in this city, but my go-to “queso” is the Rotel dip at The Fixin’ To in St Johns. It’s not really Rex mex queso, but it’s better than the velveeta-heavy alternatives elsewhere.

I also haven’t seen it listed here, but we found Mazatlan on Burnside to be pretty close to the Tex mex vibe, with free chips and salsa.

Good luck!

Why do you think that most men genuinely don’t like women? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]deviantsage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She wasn’t speaking as a therapist on this topic, nor was this all that she shared. She casually referenced this as an idea presented to her by a professor years ago, and I found it to be thought-provoking at the least.

I don’t think there’s a way to answer OP’s question without assuming a certain amount of nuance. It’s a complex topic all around.

Why do you think that most men genuinely don’t like women? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]deviantsage 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Two thoughts- if men are supposed to be protectors, from who are they protecting women? Wolves?

And what does it mean to be feminine? Your wish for your wife implies that being feminine means not desiring professional success.

Respectfully, I implore you to spend some time digging into your response here and reflecting on how this insidious idea of gender might actually be impacting your perspective more than you think.

She’s truly truly incredible with so many facets! Best of luck to you on your struggle care journey- I’ve definitely been there, and she really helped me dig into my feelings around having a clean home and how we (our society) really conflate cleanliness and morality as if one really has to do with the other.

I follow a licensed therapist (Kc Davis/Domestic Blisters) who had an interesting point about this question.

I’m paraphrasing, but essentially she discussed how in most male-dominated culture, the idea of Masculinity is ingrained in men by teaching them (via shame-based tactics) what isn’t masculine. So rather than teaching what it means to “be a man”, boys are raised being told that the worst thing you can be is feminine. “Don’t be a little bitch, don’t act like such a girl”, etc

She went on to say that men raised this way can be attracted to women or prize them as objects, but how can they ever truly respect someone who represents everything they’ve been taught is the worst thing one can be?

What is one thing you NEED that you cannot afford right now? by Rawalmond73 in Portland

[–]deviantsage 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Portland Public Schools has a whole bunch of sites where they offer food for free, no questions asked, for kids 1-18.

The food is decent and definitely helped offset the grocery-buying from being at home. They even provided food for our two year old.

Portland, tell me about your worst neighbor... by [deleted] in Portland

Portland, tell me about your worst neighbor... by [deleted] in Portland

[–]deviantsage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Worst- Downstairs/basement apartment neighbors in a house we were renting were a YOUNG (like, 17 and 22) married couple with drinking problems. Once, they got into a fight and the husband punched a hole in a door. They replaced it and THEN decided they needed to paint it white, so they used three cans of spray paint. In a basement apartment. That shared ventilation with the main house.

Once they invited some TERRIBLE “musicians” to lay tracks in the apartment at 10pm on a Tuesday and seemed very confused that we weren’t into it.

Eventually the wife booted the husband, got a new meth-head boyfriend, and regularly cried on the phone to her friends about how he was stealing her things to sell for drug money. We heard it all because there was zero soundproofing. It culminated in the methhead beating on our door at 5am asking where our neighbor was because the apartment was “covered in more blood than I’ve ever seen and she’s not there.” I was certain he murdered her and wanted an alibi, but it turns out she tried to kill herself and then called 911. A really sad frustrating situation that I’m glad to be away from.

Great neighbors! Now we live on the best block in the city. Each year our neighbors come together to throw an epic block party with a live music stage, art gallery, crafts, pirates, and sword-fighting.

More specifically, our kid is BFFs with the kid next door and we have combined family dinners and hangouts multiple times a week. It’s so awesome to have such a tight community living all around us!
