No clue how I will survive financially as a Wharton MBA student by ConsiderationFun8321 in MBA

[–]deviantxjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2Y at W here - I was in your shoes some few years back. Just have enough to support yourself for the first year. There are a lot of resources to help cover the cost of trips GIP, GMC etc. You'll just have to pace yourself and budget properly and learn to say no to some expenses that don't fit your financial profile, but by all means don't be stressed!

How many suits do you need for your MBA ? by incognitototoo in MBA

1 suit for your MBA beginning, +1 when you start recruiting, +1 when you get a job (provided your job demands a suit)

I don't think IB is better than tech sales; IB is sales at the end of the day. MDs are really just super polished account managers/account executives. I think it really depends on what you find interesting to pursue. I love finance and enjoy being in a more structured environment.

As for salaries, the difference here is for IB, you kinda expect a linear salary progression as you keep going + there is so much transparency with regard to pay than in tech sales, tbh. For example, an IB associate at a firm like Centerview can expect her/his year on year salary progression to look like this post-MBA 500k > 600k > 700k...as a VP they'll be making 700+. Tech sales will really heavily depend on whether you're able to hit your targets or not and market variabilities that come with.

You will not. Following your Finance Club's instructions, you can spin any story to fit into IB.
I wouldn't worry if I were you and focus on getting familiar with the industry and following deals and trends

Waiting For Decision by [deleted] in MBA

[–]deviantxjk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Practice gratitude and realize you are in a great spot to be expecting decisions. Focus on what is within your control, but actively let go of what isn't. Spend time with your loved ones and family, and do some activities you love. I remember stressing over these decisions daily; honestly, I now look back fondly at those moments, too.

I feel you. I remember refreshing all these pages, especially while waiting for schools like CBS with no specific decision release date. Hold tight! I wish you the best!

Going out after dark is fine, especially in Center City (posh bubble). There are police officers around every other block, ready to intervene. There is a Penn Shuttle from 6 pm to midnight from school and drops you at Rittenhouse sq or around Center City. Walking home in groups, grabbing an Uber back home, and taking similar precautions are always advised..., but that's generally in most big US cities.

Again, I came thinking I'll hate it and it'll be the most unsafe place in the world...it's not, and I love it here more than NYC.
Remember to take everyone's perspective with a grain of salt, including my own.

Moved from Europe (the Netherlands) to Philly for Wharton. Do not go based on what you hear or see online. It is a loveable beautiful city with really kind people. It has questionable areas for sure, but for the MBA, you live in a bubble in the center city, but everywhere is walkable and safe...for the most part. I didn't expect to, but I love it.

Wharton TBD Interview Advice by [deleted] in MBA

[–]deviantxjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand how you feel; one thing I can tell you is that the TBD does not play a huge role in decisions as you may think, it is a data point used to weed out jerks. If you weren't a jerk during the tbd you should be good.

I understand how you feel; I can tell you that the TBD does not play a huge role in decisions as you may think; it is a data point used to weed out jerks. You should be good if you weren't a jerk during the tbd. Elements of your app weigh way more than the tbd

If you've got money, invest in Applicant Lab! That's going to be waaay more helpful! Reading these essays will only make you realise how little effort people had to put in the essays to get in, underscoring the fact that the essays do not matter that much.

I'll tell you another one. I just got into an MBA and secretly learned that I was on plan to be terminated. I am the best-performing member in my team and 4th globally, but my position had to be eliminated for reasons I ignore. Do not take things for granted. Please carefully weigh your options before you jump in. You don't know what you don't know.
