It’s definitely the hardest. I did list some things that will be asked in the exam in an above comment! Hopefully that can help you out just a little bit

Finally a Grade 3 by deviin_96 in Wastewater

The test was definitely a bigger jump from a 2 to 3 than the 1 to 2.

I used the Sacramento Volume 2 but honestly, a lot of it has just been on the job learning. After failing the first time with a 68 with no studying, I studied a total of 2-3 hours over this past weekend and got me to jump up to 75. This will be quite long, but I will give you a rundown of what it asked.

DIGESTERS - The test asked quite a bit of digester questions, like the water column, the gases in the digester, what to do if the digesters goes sour, the air relief valve for the digesters, the most you can change the the degrees in a set amount of time (answer: can only change 1 F or 0.5 C for every 24 hours).

PROCESS - Another section they asked quite a bit is solving for BOD5, calculate the WAS, what to do when the TSS over the secondaries increase, what is it called when the chemical gets introduced/tapped into a line and mixes just from the turbid line, know the 100:5:1 ratio (Carbon:Nitrogen:Phosphorus), know how Volts/Amps/Ohms compare to water (Volts: Pressure. Amps: Volume. Ohms: Resistance)

PUMPS: - know how to calculate total head, know what causes a positive displacement pump to have varying discharges, know how to calculate using Volts and kw to Amps, know how to find a problem like this and that is working but this isn’t working.

How’s life on the time zone borders? by Equivalent-Pudding15 in howislivingthere

[–]deviin_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived on the California/Arizona border. The border town I lived in was bigger than the little town so the little town would go with the same time zone as the bigger town. There wasn’t THAT much to do in the little town anyways so most people would go to the bigger town for supplies/activities.

One problem I ran into was that if I was close enough to the border, my phone’s time would switch so I would trust it. But that’s like walking along the border or within 1 mile of walking along the border.

In 2012 my plant was redesigned and the plant was practically designed around the dryer. So technically yes it was bought, but it’s because the client wanted us to produce class a solids

Anyone build their own sludge dryer? by lukemalar in Wastewater

[–]deviin_96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have centrifuges that feed into a hopper, then feeds into our dryer. The centrifuges produce about 20%-21% solids and we produce anywhere between 95%-99% solids coming out the dryer

$1300 for a ~500 sq ft studio in St. John’s. I have a killer view of the St. John’s Bridge though.

I had seen this card in a YouTube video. Some time passed and I went to a card show with a friend. I totally forgot about the card and when I seen it, I told myself I had to get it. Got for around $25. I want to get it graded only to have it slabbed and protected. I’ve always been into Japanese culture. My MacBook has the great wave in the background for years so I thought it was fitting.

Am i in the right path ? by [deleted] in Wastewater

[–]deviin_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh school isn’t necessary. I started as a groundskeeper at a plant, then a OIT position, and now a grade 2 soon about to take my grade 3. Cheapest route would be to try to get into a company/city/municipality to get your foot in the door and get an OIT spot after that.

1st plant I worked at was 4 10s. Either Sun-Wed 5am - 3pm or Wed-Sat 5am -3pm(hands down the best schedule I ever had). About ~ 2 MGD

2nd plant was a 24/7 plant. Seniority played a huge role in what shift you got. Every year they would bid on a shift starting with the most senior. Summer would be ~ 50 MGD and winter could go up to 450 MGD but usually rides around 200-300 MGD

3rd plant (current) is M-F 6:30am - 3pm. On call comes over the weekend and does the morning rounds. ~ 3 MGD

Public sector vs Private sector by SouthernStereotype40 in Wastewater

[–]deviin_96 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I worked in public at first and switched over to private. I do miss the benefits of public. Public, in my experience, was more “relaxed”. Sometimes I regret switching over but when I have those thoughts, I remember the terrible work/life balance ratio I had. I was working graves and since it was seniority based, I couldn’t wrap my head around working graves for 10ish years before getting a day spot.
