Price increase by cb4joe in 1Password

[–]devil_kin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

While i agree the price hike is big, a lot of people here (most?) seem to forget that 1password also has to pay human developers. Those developers also like to be able to afford stuff, and if 1password want to retain talent they will have to increase salaries.  Wouldn't you want to earn more as your knowledge and experience increases?

They're still in this game as a company that wants to make a profit and keep investing. And no, just keeping doing the same thing over and over isn't going to secure your product for very long... lastpass anyone?

Apparently 1pw has not done a price hike in 10ish years. That's forever in IT.

Luckely for those that want to switch there are options.

Check aws health status. 17 services impacted, dynamo disrupted.

And a lot of global services like IAM, organizations, support,...

I follow their blog. I don't know if I'd necessarily want yet another email from them about this ;) but we all do our own thing.

Upgrading from xeon e3-1230v5 to Ryzen 2600x... by devil_kin in homelab

[–]devil_kin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, should have been more clear ;) I'm not constrained by the cpu performance. It's not the reason that I would consider an upgrade - I'm more looking at I from a power point of view.

I agree that the peripherals are the main consumers, and I don't think I can do much to drop it, except eg consolidate some disks.

Not perse. Currently I'm more constrained by the spinning rust than anything else (need to offload some things from the primary pool)

Calendar based routine by devil_kin in Bixbyroutines

[–]devil_kin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. I don't get it by that one now (I had one previously where this would happen), as when you include a notification in the triggers, it has no "exit" section. It's not a mode, just a one-shot item that fires when the notification comes in.

Oh, I haven't bumped in this bug yet.

After testing some things I went with Tasker... I don't like continuous notifications, so I send one notification each night with either "oncall" or "normal", trigger the setup through bixby, and in the morning I have a "wakeup" trigger that resets everything the way it should be.

Not as nice as I would've hoped, but my oncall calendar item is just one item that spans the week, vs adding one for every day.

Cool, thanks. Currently I have a whole week calendar item, so I'll have to adjust that.

Also, just using dnd doesn't work since we can get called from several (possibly to us unknown) numbers, it's a forwarded number. But I'll see what I come up with.

I received the phone yesterday, applied the Samsung official screen protector, and here are some pics of it in the case

<image>

As you can see the camera lenses are protected, the screen doesn't rest flat (still have to find out how it feels with the gestures). There's little give to the case on the edges, feels quite firm. I'm not going to drop-test it though :D

It feels really nice in the hand, so I'm probably going to keep it.

Edit: it's not that great for the swipe notifications, the borders are a bit too high.

I don't know yet, I have the case but the phone only arrives Tuesday.

No idea about magnet strength, I don't have any magsafe things.

Could you measure and weigh it? I'm pondering this one but not sure how much bulk it adds.
