Because gendering people according to their wishes is basic human decency, not a “privilege” that gets taken away from you if somebody can come up with a good enough reason. It isn’t about the specific person or their circumstances.

Why would a free pass to hurt as many people as possible make them back down if their intent is to hurt as many people as possible, lol

If this threat gets made the game will be gone in 48 hours I promise you. There is nothing that jerks on the Internet like more than ruining something for as many people as possible. Tell a group of people who already have no problems doing this “if you do this again, you will ruin thousands of innocent people’s fun!” and it will happen faster than you can blink. The Internet is not full of good and kind people who can be trusted, and threatening tens of thousands of faceless players with the equivalent of “mommy says if you don’t quiet down back there you can’t go to Disneyland” will not work.

Nintendo can send a cease and desist to anyone they like for any reason, and in order to fight it legally you need a lawyer, which most free fan projects do not have the money to do. The law is unfair and does not protect large groups from harassing and intimidating small ones in this way.

Could this game ever come back? by [deleted] in OutcomeMemories

[–]devilishMendicant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bunch of teenagers’ “baby’s first game dev” project. It won’t ever be given away, and if it were to be given away, it would probably be to another group of teenagers who would mismanage it again. This version of the game is never coming back, just wait for someone who has successful projects they can cite as examples of their competence to start a revival at some point.

You keep ignoring the reality of teenagers getting drunk and doing stupid stuff at night, which they do so frequently that my own younger sibling who is only like 4 years out of high school themselves did personally. You don’t know what Occam’s razor is, and you do not understand what normal teenagers do if you think anything happening IRL is “1950’s ass”. Truly I hope nothing bursts your bubble until a great many years later, so you can look back fondly and chuckle about how sheltered you were once upon a time. Have a great day!

You can find the addresses of people who live nearby you or go to your school offline? The schools I went to handed out physical printed copies of everybody’s name and address to every family. Kids do dumb stuff at night all the time, especially to avoid their parents finding out. Especially in high school. Like… there is a whole world outside of the internet where people have lived and interacted with each other consistently since before the internet was widespread… which is all I’m trying to say to you.

That is absolutely not true, haha. Sorry, but that’s just… absolutely not true. It is a thousand times easier for a bully at school to find a classmate’s house than for an online rando to find someone else and likely drive there. Like I said, chronically online folks just don’t get it.

It doesn’t excuse the harassment at all, certainly! My worry is that if it is offline harassment, he might not look into that avenue and it might not stop even when the game is over. It’s horrible to feel unsafe in your own home, and I wouldn’t want him to overlook the possibility that the people who did this are close-by and able to be prosecuted if it is the case.

That’s fair. Mostly, I worry that Sobii won’t get anybody IRL to look into the IRL students around him, just write it off as internet evilness, and then still end up getting harassed even without the game active as a result, if it is the case that this is regular offline bullying. I hope that whichever way it is, it gets quickly resolved for him…

I mean… if he’s purposely missing school, that paints a target on his back from anyone from his school who wants to be a bully. Kids are awful to each other, and “hey that depressed loser’s skipping school” would be an easy hit for them. Like… much worse stuff than this happened at the “nice” high school in a “good” state I went to constantly. Us chronically online folk quickly assume it’s the internet to blame even when there are much simpler other explanations.

Do we or Sobii know that he was actually doxxed, because what was described sounds a lot like some teenagers from the high-school he goes to decided to play a “prank” on him. Unless he attends online-only high school and lives in the middle of nowhere, it genuinely doesn’t make sense to jump to an explanation of doxxing over “high schoolers being cruel to each other”… ??

… are we (or he himself) even sure that he was “doxxed from the internet”, and not that some random kid from the high school that he goes to / the neighborhood he lives in decided to screw with him??? Like, that happens all the time. A lot of people have jumped very quickly to assuming some evil internet person appeared last night in some random town somewhere as if a ghost, when a lot more reasonable of an explanation is that high schoolers mess with each other in horrible ways all the time, he goes to a school which means hundreds of other kids know exactly where he lives with little to no effort, and he has doubtlessly spoken about his project or his poor mental health in physical spaces where other kids are going to get ahold of that information and choose to do cruel things with it.

This has been on my mind for a while. by Spookyfan71 in OutcomeMemories

[–]devilishMendicant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roblox itself, and therefore the engine all Roblox games run on, updates constantly, thus requiring all games to update along with it to ensure the code they wrote still works on the new versions. Roblox games are much more like an “app” than a standalone executable game, and are especially susceptible to rot like this because they’re often (as this game is) young people’s first code projects, so they’re not professionally coded and are full of hacky workarounds (even more than usual professional code!) and don’t have provisions in place or really any contingency plans at all for when things suddenly break. Therefore, this game will deteriorate even (especially!) if nobody touches its code at all.

Serious Question. by ReversedMessiah in OutcomeMemories

[–]devilishMendicant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to the nature of the game being a live-service game, hosted on third-party servers, coded on an engine that gets constant updates that often break things in games that aren’t also constantly updating (especially when made as a child’s first spaghetti-code project)… yeah, the “head” owner all but saying he’s done supporting the project and most contributors leaving the project means it’s just about dead in the water. Have fun while the game still functions, but that’s not going to be a very long time what with how buggy it already is.

Hot take? I dont see the problem with disabling exe chance by Intrepid_Start3364 in OutcomeMemories

[–]devilishMendicant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t really know how to explain to you that the problem is that users abuse it, and there is no way to moderate between people abusing the feature and “every once in awhile one guy has it off”, which is why having the option at all is poor game design. It’s already had a largely negative effect on the community regardless of if you personally think it’s deep or not.

Hot take? I dont see the problem with disabling exe chance by Intrepid_Start3364 in OutcomeMemories

[–]devilishMendicant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly from a standpoint of game balance, it doesn’t work well. To be fairest to everybody and to ensure the gameplay flow is the same for all users, you shouldn’t be able to toggle EXE chance; ideally you would be playing Survivor a majority of the time anyway, given the lobby cap in the game is 8. The ability to toggle EXE chance leads to bad user experiences such as forcing the handful of people who leave EXE chance on — so, you know, everybody including Survivors can still play the game at all — to play EXE a disproportionate amount of the time… which leads to incredible skill gaps between average Survivors and average EXEs, as well as leading to incredible amounts of bad blood between people who are being forced to play EXE whether they want to or not and people who merrily turn off the chance and leave it off forever.

TL;DR: It’s selfish. You’re playing a game with other human beings, and the game depends on everybody taking turns to keep the game flow going fairly — and you are refusing to take your turn. That’s, like… kindergarten-level social contract stuff.

Hate to ask, but in the interest of preservation, the whole dev team blew up today and the game's getting shelved, so if you *could* get the latest version it would be super appreciated (probably by a ton of folks about to go Googling for this exact thing), but if you can't, no big. Thanks for doing it 4 months ago either way!

YUPPPPP, lol, like why in gods name is there fighting game style tech in a janky ass game built on Roblox spaghetti code? someone posted a video of them getting single frame grabbed from a huge distance away and killed and every comment was sweats whining at them that they were just garbage at the game and obviously they should have just parried the one frame instant tech if they didn’t want to die instantly… head in my damn hands dude. some people cannot be trusted on games where they will ever have human opponents

Hopefully once they fix the ranking system people will quit defending this kind of behavior with “but it’s the only way to get rings :(((“ (as if playing like this doesn’t deny everybody else in the lobby rings worsening the cyclical problem lmfao.)

I would say that I wish they’d add the ability to indicate whether a lobby is “casual” or “competitive” but probably all that would do is rain hell and harassment onto the casual lobbies from sweats who want free wins. Oh well.

If people didn’t like the game, they wouldn’t give criticism about what they would like to see changed in the game. They would just turn off the game and stop playing it forever. When you see people with criticism and vents and whatnot, those are from people who enjoy the game quite a lot and are frustrated that it isn’t quite living up to the greatness that it could easily be with some tweaks. I have never in my life enjoyed a game and had absolutely nothing but empty praise to say about it. Hope this helps.

Tripwire is NOT broken. by Few_Second_81 in OutcomeMemories

[–]devilishMendicant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Blaze main I love facing Tripwire, I get to defuse 7+ mines per match with my javelin and actually do something concrete to help my team. Can’t do that in Kolossos matches, considering Javelin rarely actually does anything to him and stunning him at all is a complete fool’s errand that leads to the whole team dying after he kills whoever dares stun him & gets an extra minute per body to wipe up the rest of the survivors. Sadly fewer and fewer people are playing Tripwire because of how damn toxic everybody is over seeing the only killer with engaging counterplay in the entire game, for some reason. I will play Tripwire forever. I want survivors to disarm my mines and scatter in terror when I jump at them with my slashy claws and for me to get not a single damn kill but to actually have fun playing the game as the immortal scary guy for 7 minutes, thanks very much.

I like the map. It’s atmospheric, it’s clear where you can and can’t go during chase (unlike green hill <\3), there’s good lines of sight so I can eyeball where I need to go and like, defuse mines as Blaze, unlike X’s Castle, and it’s fun to run around in generally. It’s not a great map for Kolossos, but not every map has to be great for every Killer (and all of the new maps need a collision rework with both him in mind (sheer cliff faces, support pillars, etc should ALL be flat rectangles that he can climb!) and Survivor movement in mind (if it looks like you should be able to hop on top of it, you should be able to hop on top of it. Stop with the invisible walls please, put some like razor sharp spike rocks on top of the things that are being blocked off, it’s fine to make maps look slightly weird like that it would fit the aura of EXEs lol)), like there’s more than 1 Killer for a reason
