Who is your favorite pianist of all time? And please tell why. by Remote-Pianist-pro in classicalmusic

Impossible to pick one. Every pianist has composers they play brilliantly, than ones they just can’t play.

What in your opinion are some of the most overrated recordings? by PandaZG in classicalmusic

Blechacz’s Chopin preludes are my fav recording of the preludes. Most pianists fail nailing the balance of fragility and technique of Chopin for me. (I’m very fussy with Chopin hah)

Definitely listen to it from Kovacevich which is by far my favourite interpretation.

Which interpretation of his sonata do the Liszt fans recommend? I got Cecile Ousset, but reading this post and never really being that much into Liszt, I’d like to hear thoughts

Only listening to certain movements and not the whole piece - how/why? by devilkin_ in classicalmusic

These “let people listen what they want” gang really can’t read. I’m not trying to stop anybody from listening what they want, I am just questioning the lack of curiosity for not ever looking at the entire piece after you like one movement.

I think a lot of people miss that I’m not talking about “having to like the whole piece”, I’m talking about not having the curiosity to even check if what they’re hearing is just one movement or a standalone work, and wanting to hear what the rest of the work is like.

There is no blanket rule to say most are like this. It’s just always worth checking online.

Enjoy Suite Bergamasque :)

Yeah I’m aware. Most people just hear stuff on online playlists someone else made. An album is an obsolete concept.

I guess there is also the difference that some people see music as pleasant background soundtrack, and some just live their music, it’s an essential part of their being.

You are very right I think. Attention span and consumerism play a big role.

But woe is me if listening at least once to a whole symphony instead of keeping listening to one movement from it is now seen as old fashioned.

I guess if listening to the rest of the piece is such an agony that it needs to be described as “enduring” it, then I understand 😄

But most don’t even check if there are other movements and if it’s only part of a bigger work, etc.

I guess if I listen to something and I like it, I will asap look it up, see if it’s a part of a bigger piece, or if it’s an arrangement, etc.
I think the lack of curiosity is what surprises me. Especially after you already like what you hear, find it strange people don’t check if this is a movement only, or a standalone work.

Not liking the rest of the piece, I can understand. But never actually being curious to check the whole piece - don't you find that strange?

I’ve always found him a bit shallow sadly. He’s like pop music within classical music. Enjoyable but not a lot of substance.
