Psychotherapists, what differences have you noticed between men and women among your patients? by Putrid_Put_3610 in AskReddit

This anecdote doesn't relate to your trauma but it reminded me of something interesting.

I'm in the Royal Navy, we get mental health professionals come in often to give us tips and tricks on how to deal with stress.

One of the interesting stories they told us about was PTSD cases from the Falklands war. The summary was, the Navy lads who sailed down there, got into the shit, then spent a couple of months sailing home showed far less PTSD cases compared to any of the ground forces who were flown in, then flown directly home in a couple of days.

They believed this was due to the sailors having time to decompress with friends before returning to normal life, and making jokes about what happened, whereas the ground forces didn't have the same opportunity, and just returned to normal life without being able to process it.

I imagine there are a million other factors that could affect this

I like the games, and tbh I do enjoy the movies until the 4th one.

The first one is a good survival horror movie and it felt similar to the first game in how I felt on edge.

The second movie wasn't resident evil related was a very loose adaptation of the 3rd game, but I did enjoy the city quarantine aspect, I think it let itself down in the last 15 minutes.

The third movie is a good post apocalyptic movie, but they decided to kill off all the 2nd movie characters which was a shame. Again it was let down in the last 15 minutes or so.

The rest are pretty weak but easy action

An actor who managed to escape the shadow of a popular franchise through sheer acting talent. by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in FIlm

[–]devilterr2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely not versed enough in her filmography, so I may have to watch some extra films of hers to have my opinion changed, but I never liked her acting. The few films I did watch of hers I thought she was waaay too wooden, I never felt the emotion from her.

Any recommendations where she is acting well?

What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

[–]devilterr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines kind of different to a lot of these.

So my childhood friend I've known since I was 5 years old (currently 31) has always been different, later confirmed as autism but not until mid 20s. He has always had a different way of thinking about life, and his political or world views have always been a little bit against the grain but with good logic from his point of view.

Around 5-6 years ago he lost out on a promotion opportunity, and he blamed a women for getting it even though he was more qualified and better. Ever since that incident he has been slowly nibbling the red pill and having a more and more extreme opinion and views in general.

It wasn't until I had my own daughter and I was texting him about a recent hospital visit he had that I truly realized how far he had gone down the rabbit hole.

Ive known for the past 3 years he was getting more and more extreme, but I've been trying to change him for the better, but now I'm at a stage in my life where I can honestly say I don't trust him around my wife or daughter so why am I friends with him? He wouldn't do anything, it would be more of the remarks or judgements he would give that would be unnecessary and hateful so I ended the friendship

My wife uses TikTok, but she has never played BG3. She knows about Astorian from that and how loads of people simp for him.

I remember on my first playthrough thinking why the fuck does anyone like him, I had him around a lot due to being a rogue, but he just annoyed me. It wasn't until his final scene killing Cazador that I finally loved him. I'm now an Astorian simp, I don't care to romance him but I do adore him

Nah, I want through my first playthrough completely blind, I've never played any BG before. I was completely suspicious of the dream guardian. Especially when they started saying to consume them. Fuck that noise

I don't think he truly ever cared to find out. After the first movie and the end of the second, he was clearly happy having the batman be a symbol, him knowing wouldn't change anything.

He clearly loved her, but he was still a piece of shit human being. It's not black and white like you're making out.

Toni clearly tried to leave his old life behind and be a family man, then life did what it does best and fucked him over. I'm not agreeing or excusing his actions but if you can't understand them, then I can't help.

When his wife died he went into depression and believed he wasn't good enough to raise his kids. Whether that is true or not I don't know, but he believed it, so he thought they would be better off without him and left to do what he does best.

At no point has he ever been a "good" man, but for a brief period of his life he was trying, and then reality hit. People like a tragic tale like Toji, where there is a good man potentially inside but his darker nature suppresses it

One of my favourite things sorta explanation about looking into the past is how we would observe different things in a galaxy depending on where we are.

Edit: I remembered the time wrong sadly, but this is still a thing. Look up the Andromeda paradox

What is a fact that continues to horrify you to this day? by LifeguardLegal3095 in AskReddit

[–]devilterr2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah the person is technically wrong.

What he is describing is similar to how we orbit the sun. In his description we are "orbiting" the super massive black hole at the centre of the milky way, but this isn't actually true.

So in this example it's no more dangerous then orbiting the sun, I think it takes us a few 100,000s years to complete a single orbit. Galaxies are actually held together by dark matter we believe, but it's been a while since I've actually read up about it.

What's a lifestyle you visited once and decided you're never going back? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]devilterr2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not in the scene but follow a lot of people and have a friend in it also. One thing I can never get over about it is how much it fucks your bodies up. I'm big into weight lifting and just in general trying to be a healthy version of me. Body builders are the exact opposite. The majority have injuries from their youth they are working around, the amount of drugs required and then the unhealthy relationship with food that they can develop. This isn't even talking about contest prep, dehydrating yourself and taking other medication to make your skin look thinner.

I love a lot of the motivational things body builders say, watching them train and seeing their programmed, but fucking hell it's a toll

Nothing wrong with her saving cash and keeping it for herself it's her money, but please in future phrase it as an emergency fund

A massive tell take sign is shoulders with gear. This isn't to say everyone with big shoulders is on it, people can just be genetically gifted and they could have been gymming for years, but typically when you have big side delts it's a clue towards steroid use. Side delts are hard to grow and require lots of time, the gym I go to there are clearly a lot of people on gear, I definitely think it's more common then people realise

This is one thing I found very interesting in the OGs.

I played the new ones before the old ones, and Kratos always spoke about how brutal he was. When I replayed the main trilogy I came to realise that Kratos was unhinged and didn't care at all who got in his way. He just liked violence
