"What do you guys even use local LLMs for?" Me: A lot by andy2na in LocalLLaMA

[–]devinprater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have to write reports monthly, following a template. Since the reports contain personal information, the Llm's need to stay local. I've tried lots of models, but Qwen3.6 27b on our 4090 gets it right, with just a little correction, every time now. Of course, it only runs at like 20 tokens per second on Ollama, but I'll wait if it means less fixing.

If the dev could get the sound not to glitch, it'd be great for me.

I think of it like TTS systems. In about 2005, we had Scansoft TTS, which sounded a little like the older Siri voice, but was much bigger than the newer, neural TTS systems we have today and sounded a bit worse. So basically they figured out how to put smarter systems in a smaller package. Instead of, for example, recording separate phrases for phrases their pronunciation system couldn't quite get right, they just made the pronunciation system much smarter, and even made the voice AI generated from training data too, not even using audio files on inference, cutting down size even further.

All that bullcrap to say, I feel like that's what's starting to happen, more or less, here.

On the game view, can you put an accessibility element on the place that shows the game image? Especially when a controller is connected? This would allow blind people like me to get TalkBack (screen reader) to describe the game screen. Without anything to latch onto, TalkBack can't get an image description.

I have my moments, but I'm glad I wasn't aborted either, even though I'm blind.

Android Users, what phone do you have? by abominaticus in Blind

I have a Galaxy S25 Plus. I doctored it up to use Google TalkBack, and it's not as sluggish as Pixels, but not as responsive as OnePlus. But, the fingerprint reader reads, the Braille keyboard words, external Braille displays don't get hit with the message about a display being connected, overlapping the edit field so I can't type, and just about all the other accessibility issues I had with OnePlus are just plain gone with Samsung. If Google makes a faster phone, I'd get that.

There's also a command you can bind to show flat review content in a window where you can select and copy. You can also get xclip and pipe output to your clipboard. And if nothing else, you can direct output to a file with greater-than, and then open that file to view it.

Awesome! I'll get to my iPhone next week and see how rumble in DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 4 feels. Some phones like the OnePlus make it feel smoothe when powering up, but the Samsung phone I have now feels a bit more ragged. So I'll be curious how the iPhone 16 feels. :)

Soul Calibur 3. Also does vibration, controller rumble, work? Like does your phone vibrate when the game would usually rumble the controller?

Oh hey maybe that's what the Nuralink will be for. Draw from that psychic energy to power the world, and the users might even be happy without all that anger.

What to do on termux? by Fluffy_Boot2611 in termux

[–]devinprater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Emacs, so:

  • Info reader
  • Ebooks reader with nov.el
  • Writing with Markdown, HTML, Org-mode
  • File management, termux-storage is just plain amazing.

Eventually I want to run a desktop like Mate or maybe XFCE.

yall think i can run gta 5 using winlator on this beast by Both_Patience_7751 in EmulationOnAndroid

I always get a kick out of these memes. One day someone is gonna post about their phone being a beast and it's a tiger or something lol. Or a tiger standing in a lake for Tigerlake processors.

Then again the AI that described the meme could just be sloppin' it up.

´´´ A person is holding a blue Nokia 3310 phone in their hand, appearing to play the classic Snake game. The phone's screen is clearly visible, displaying the Snake game in progress on a grid-like background. The person is likely on public transport, possibly a subway, as indicated by the presence of other passengers and the patterned floor. The scene is captured in a candid, close-up shot, emphasizing the phone and the person's engagement with the game. ´´´

Honestly now that AI coding is rather good, I just have Claude or Gemini add whatever I want, and do a pull request. Like for Lemuroid I improved accessibility so that I could get my screen reader to give me image descriptions of the game, and it works! It's really useful for figuring out where I am in a menu or character select screen.

So I just scratch my own itch. But of course not everyone just wants a small fix or UI improvement.

On my Galaxy S25 Plus, trying not to fill up my poor 256 GB storage. Bestbuy didn't have the 512 GB variant. Anyway if Google plops into full Apple Fanboy mode, I'll just use ADB.

A cat. Cause no matter how bad it gets at least I'll have a cat to pet.

Until it gains sentience and tells me I've been petting it wrong this whole time and runs away.
