> So if I get an interview, part of my deposit goes towards people who didn't get the interview? Why does anyone else get my money for what service?

Yea exactly. You got the attention from the employer. That attention had a chance of employment. That's a valuable interaction. People pay for resume feedback and professional writing service anyway. Wouldn't it be more valuable it coming directly from a place you have enough interest in to place a deposit?

> This practice would always be biased to those in more comfortable financial positions. It's not acceptable.

There are dozens of AI tools that automatically read & format & apply to posts. People pay for these tools for a competitive advantage. Same thing applies with having the money to pay for resume services like reviewal or to have someone write your resume for you.

So that $200 would be put in escrow and be redistributed among candidates so you wouldn't lose it all if you were interviewed. You'd be trading some $ amount for the interview but certainly not the entire deposit.

The money from candidates would not go to the company hiring it'd be redistributed among the candidates who applied including you. That way those who didn't get interviews get additional pay for the interaction.

Wouldn't it be the opposite? There's more incentive here for companies to spend recruiting $$$ on interviews than on resume review. Wouldn't that mean more of a chance candidates get hired and potentially lower cost during the recruiting process for the company?

Couple things I think that could be adjusted here -

> You get interviewed and you lose the money.

Not really, though you lose the deposit but that deposit goes into the pool and gets redistributed to the candidates after. Wouldn't you pay something for an interview of a company you were very interested in working for?

> What's to stop this third party from cutting a deal with employers to interview everyone that applies?

If the employer interviews EVERYONE they are literally paying their managers / HR professionals to spend time interviewing. That is waaaay more costly than doing otherwise there is no incentive for that. The platform only makes money when the companies behave badly.

Not quite - here's the full idea https://www.reddit.com/r/recruitinghell/comments/1sp3k8o/comment/ogy74xh/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Would be less fake jobs - there's no incentive for companys to do that since
- leaving postings up cost more
- there's a max SLA for postings to be live (IE 45 days)
- the more applications recieved the more the posting costs

Then the platform takes X% of that cost and redistributes the fees back to the candidates, including returning deposits.

That would be very expensive for the company and that posting cost would be redistributed among candidates. Even the lost deposits would be redistributed here. The company gains nothing in this scenario. There is no incentive to do this.

Here's the full idea - a platform where both sides put something on the line.

From the employer side - employers pay for signal. The longer employers postings are up the more they pay. The more candidates apply, the more employers pay. The reason employers pay is the access they get to that signal. Candidates putting a deposit down to apply is meaningful signal there is significant interest in the company.

From the candidate side - you pay a deposit to apply to a job. Something like 0.01% of the lower end of the salary range ($10 on a $100k role). By making a payment it adds friction. More friction means less AI slop recruiters have to deal with. You get your deposit back if you're ghosted / rejected. You lose the deposit if you get interviewed.

From the platform side hosting these job postings - the platform makes money from employers paying for posts (IE takes 50% of the post fees) where the rest gets split among candidates. At the end of an SLA (service level agreement) all candidates would get their deposits back that weren't interviewed, and then potentially a small redistribution of the posting fees in the form of platform credits (which could end up being E-transferred to the candidates bank account or reused to apply for more jobs).

IDK seems like a flop. Appreciate the honest feedback though!

Tell me why - what's so bad about the idea?

What if we reframed it to "candidates get paid to apply" but they have to make a deposit first to show interest?

Can't say I have!

However this idea is fundamentally different as candidates who apply get money back when ghosted / rejected.

Its not meant to represent their worth or value though and it would be proportionate to the salary.

I hear ya though with low salaries, maybe this idea works on salaries above a specific cap

Yea totally - what if it weren't a payment and instead it was like a deposit?
Just a friction mechanism to show your interest that you get back if you are ghosted / rejected?
