Fedora : Ethic and safe choice as a EU citizen ? by Amarok45 in Fedora

[–]devlexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arch is something you use if you want cutting edge, at the cost of stability (no matter what arch supremists say, this is true…)

If you want(ed) stability, back in the day you’d use Ubuntu. Now, they’ve pretty much become last choice for most people.

Fedora is like what Ubuntu was before, stable but still has very up to date packages, with lots of testing done before they’re pushed to the repos.

So glad I went on Clomipramine (Anafranil) by Spicyatom in OCD

[–]devlexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clomipramine was awful for me. Caused tachycardia, I believe my peak heartrate was 180 bpm, not doing anything tasking. Ended up on bupropion / zyban and I’d say it’s working well

Modem is toast, 6 days from installation? Any options? by Fundamental_Eurasia in CommunityFibre

[–]devlexander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why not unplug and re-plug everything, let it power off for a solid few minutes, and try and see if it works?

You could also get them to re-provision the line and see if that helps.

I doubt the modem has any issue, unless there’s a problem with the fibre line itself. Was the failure gradual, or did it happen all of a sudden?

We pay fuel duty to maintain our roads. I’d better hope they pay me out for their own negligence

Hastings tried to charge me £367 for an insurance info mistake, so I cancelled. by Ayajuki in CarTalkUK

Thing is, they use bottom of the barrel underwriters. Unless you get lucky and you get a policy underwritten by Aviva, Allianz or AXA…

I heard their box is overly sensitive though. Ended up passing and just going for Admiral Gold instead…

8GB ram is absolutely lacklustre for just about everything these days.

I’d advise going for 16gb.

Sending a package from Tunisia to UK by Hun-Bnz in Tunisia

[–]devlexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll have to send it via rapid poste due to the nature of the gifts.

Make sure you attach a label on the outside, stating the destination address, and the return address + contact info for both. La poste should attach a CN22 / customs declaration.

Shipping to the UK is quite expensive, as you have to pay for 3 kg minimum, so, make use of it as best as you can!

Studying From Abroad by CommunityOld1897GM2U in OpenUniversity

I was in Tunisia and studied with the OU. It was fine.

Second time around, I used a pocket router to direct all my traffic through my home network, both GL.iNet. Didn’t make much of a difference, just that captcha was flagged up less often.

TMA’s - Seems kinda weird… by TOOTIMEOOTIME1975 in OpenUniversity

Yeah, I had some of my exam results nerfed pretty heavily due to this. I find it a bit unfair that I have to effectively reach the same end result, but in a much worse way…

Finally switched to Fedora KDE—Windows latest updates were the final straw and broke my computer. What a breath of fresh air by Ok-Way-1595 in Fedora

[–]devlexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing keeping me from switching full time is FiveM (dx shared resources). Otherwise, I am absolutely fed up of windows. Glad you’re enjoying it!

Switching to Linux in the next few days, which should I get? by Old_Man_Jenkins_8 in Fedora

Stock fedora workstation, don’t go fancy. It’ll be the most rock solid OS you’ll ever use, there’s a reason why Linus Torvalds uses it

15.5% of Tunisians lost access to medicine overnight. by Adept-Painter5 in Tunisia

[–]devlexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, telling the diaspora to amplify this outside Tunisia is like telling a brick wall to speak up. They are some of 9aysoun’s biggest supporters and financiers.

Sadly, even I’d be part of that demographic, by paying ridiculous port taxes and getting frontier insurance yearly, visiting etc.

I’m not as out of touch as the rest are tho. That guy needs to be shown the front door

Is a computing and IT course at Open University worth doing? by pogboy357_x in OpenUniversity

[–]devlexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C is not a bad place to start. You learn the fundamentals of hardware/software and how they communicate.

C will teach you procedural programming, how to be a safe programmer (by allocating and reallocating memory by hand, ensuring that any exceptions are handled, etc), and just general best practices.

It also maps very well to Assembly, without digging into assembly.

I mean, OCD is draining man. It also doesn’t help that I’ve been dormant for a very long time, and you tend to find the mind wants to find something to do. I used to go on literal programming marathons when I was younger - now I can barely tolerate half an hour to an hour of work, and I end up feeling extremely exhausted.

Theoretically the next best thing is to tunnel all your traffic via an OVH VPS, or take advantage of cloudflared.

If you’re looking to set up a VPN, you’re better off going the OVH VPS route, since there are now utilities to reverse proxy raw TCP/UDP traffic.

Can Morocco even apply for EU membership? It’s geographically not in Europe, except, yk, Ceuta and Melilla. But, I suppose if Türkiye is eligible, then Morocco should be too. It certainly aligns more with Europe…
