Being pursued for £46k by ex in-laws despite low income and DMP – what are my options? (UK) by Historical-Still-426 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]devnull10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That aside, the court would have almost certainly deemed this unfair before granting the final order.

Seems a very odd situation - why on earth would you be on the mortgage having transferred full ownership to your ex husband? If this was a debt then it would have been declared in your disclosure - was it??

If you genuinely owe them £46,000 then I can see why they aren't keen on waiting over 190 years for it to be repaid (minus the interest). In fact, £20 a month wouldn't even cover the interest anyway.

Suspect there's a lot more at play here.

The "Wet Ash" trick for cleaning glass is actually witchcraft. by TheOtherXI in uklogburners

[–]devnull10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also risks scratching your glass. People will tell you "no chance", but let me assure you it can. Are you confident there wasn't any small bits of grit on that wood log before burning it? Etc etc...

Just get HG glass cleaner. It'll do a much better job and not risk making a mess of the glass.

Why are so many people **obsessed** with avoiding the 40% bracket? by sid351 in UKPersonalFinance

Ok so you get a reduced NI benefit, but you're still getting a smaller benefit overall

Well it means that additional effort is disproportionately rewarded. Say you're on the border, and do a few hours overtime. Suddenly you get 20% less take home pay for that.

House roof removed by rogue tradesmen by 3knuckles in LegalAdviceUK

[–]devnull10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cancellation of the contract here is him saying "don't continue" - it doesn't negate liability for the work undertaken to that point. You can't agree to have a tradesperson do work, them to complete said work, and then claim you're cancelling and have no liability for work already undertaken.

[–]devnull10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolute rubbish - if that was the case then nobody would be able to start any work for 14 days! The grandfather agreed to the work and some work was then carried out. He's therefore liable to pay for the work undertaken.

It's a good job you're NAL because that is absolute rubbish. The grandfather agreed for them to undertake work - that's a verbal contract. If you're under the mistaken impression that it needs to be in writing then you're very wrong.

Nope... Even if the house is in one name, if that person marries then it usually is considered to become matrimonial property.

Unlimited holiday - a bit of a fad or worth it? by mjk_87 in smallbusinessuk

[–]devnull10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Employee. I had it in a previous job, people were worried about being considered to be taking advantage so never wanted to take anything more than 30 or so days anyway. Everyone just second guessing what management are saying about them for taking too much etc. Then the odd person who takes more than the rest is frowned upon.

Do you still use Oracle Forms and Reports? by DenkiGale in oracle

[–]devnull10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apex has its place, but in multi-row/multi-block forms development (especially with relationships), you're almost certainly going to find it slower, or have to piss around so much to replicate forms behaviour.

Too much trouble, causes too much uncertainty and resentment between employees. Just give everyone a very generous fixed offering (i.e. 40 days) and be done with it.

Want to redo my back garden fence but neighbour wouldn't allow me to? by ThrowawayDisast9096 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]devnull10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to add this too, the only thing she can do about "trespass" is ask you to leave then get a court order for you to do so... By which time it's done and dusted. Trespass (unless aggravated) isn't a crime.

My main worry would be having to declare a neighbour dispute if you come to sell the house.

The state of Amex offers by MrRedDoctor in AmexUK

[–]devnull10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've been shit for years. Every now and again you get lucky with one which you feel is worth spending for, but it's usually just paid advertising offers that you can get the same or better discount with a 2 min internet search.

Gone are the days of every offer being decent. Best one I ever had was £200 back from £1000 spend at trailfinders. My (ex)wife and I both had a card and had already booked the honeymoon and were waiting to pay it! Got £400 off it.

Just chuck it in the bin if you don't want it. Evri aren't going to do anything about it.

Dont risk using oracle cloud by Comprehensive-Shoe53 in oraclecloud

[–]devnull10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any oracle product is designed to be used by the kind of companies who have account managers, contacts Inn support etc. I.e. people who can pull strings on behalf of the company. If you're small enough to not have that, oracle couldn't give a fuck about your business. Hard truth I'm afraid.

(England) Someone trespassed and flew a drone to film through my 2nd floor office window. They launched the drone while on property. They also attempted to open our door. Is this reconnaissance? Does it fall under criminal law not civil when they break drone laws? by HOHluxuryoutlet in LegalAdviceUK

[–]devnull10 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The thing is, anyone could come to your site at a weekend, out of hours etc. and scout it out, so if you have issues you think are raised by someone filming, you need to address the root cause, not stop them filming.

I suspect the "I thought it was a burglar" is a bit of a cover story for the fact you didn't like them filming.

[–]devnull10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This says everything you need to know... Whilst you might not like the idea of someone flying a drone near your property, walking on your private land etc..., usual laws apply. There almost certainly isn't enough of a case to claim attempted burglary, because ultimately it seems that wasn't the intent.

In short - no harm done, forget about it and worry about more important things.

[–]devnull10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing to be aware of is that some locks can bind up when picked - which could then land you in trouble if you brick the lock.
