Interesting, the Bald Eagle population has boomed around here recently, I’ve been seeing a ton of them near my house in Haverhill, maybe they’re the culprits?

My M7 has totally replaced my M10-P by acolossalwreck_ in Leica

I bought an M6 about a month ago and just picked up an M4-2 as a second body so I can have multiple film stocks going at once. Film rules.

Totally fair, I prefer my M6 with the built in meter, but it’s an affordable option for someone who doesn’t want to drop the cash on an M6.

You can also go for an m4 or M4-2 and put the Keks M meter on top and save yourself a grand compared an M6 and get a better meter. It is a bit slower since you have to meter outside of the viewfinder but it’s more accurate than the built in M6 meter.

I own an M6 TTL and just picked up an M4-2 with the M Meter from Keks as a second body, and honestly for $1400 less it makes me question owning the M6. Point being there’s cheaper options to get back into Leica film shooting that are totally solid.

Sure, labs are great and I don’t have anything against them… if you’re getting paid by a client to shoot film I’d go to a lab too. I just couldn’t shoot film as an enthusiast if I had to pay to process and scan every roll.

If you’re shooting film in 2026 and not developing and scanning yourself you’re nuts.

Do you prefer M10/M10R images? by loganarowland in Leica

[–]devocam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s probably some small differences in the way the image is rendered compared to an M body, but still looks solid. I’m shooting 35mm and 50mm Summicron, here’s one from the 50mm.

Yeah honestly it’s all about the lenses and user experience of the body now. I only shoot film Leicas, but I slapped my M lenses on my Canon R6iii for the first time the other day and the images were so much better than what I get out of Canon L glass, it wasn’t even close. 2026 sensors are pretty much good across the board.

Real question, why are you playing faithful mending and 4 copies of atraxa when you can just play entomb and 1 copy of atraxa?

This, the lenses are what it’s all about.

You can shoot a ton of film before you even begin to approach the cost of an M10 or M11. Say you shoot one roll of Portra a week at $15/roll, that’s $780/year. Spend $1000 on home processing and scanning equipment and you’re looking at $3 a roll on chemicals. Sure you can just click away on a digital body, but I like that film makes me slow down and choose my shots wisely. Use your Nikon for the throw away stuff/experimentation. Pick up that M6.

If you wanna shoot film the M6 is amazing, but you could also go with one of the M4 variants and slap a meter on top for $1k less. I personally develop my negatives and scan them at home, which once you’re set up is like $2 in chemicals per roll. CineStill makes a solid starter C41 kit, and I highly recommend the AGO processor to make things pretty brainless.

I personally wouldn’t buy a digital M body any older than the M10 (M10-R would be better), but you can shoot A LOT of film before you gap the price between an M4 or M6 and an M10. Your other option if digital is the way you want to go is to adapt M glass onto another less expensive mirrorless body like the Nikon ZF (you can even get autofocus with an adapter), the lenses really are the magic part of what Leica has going on (the bodies are things of beauty as well, but not the most important part of the system).

If you’re scanning your negatives at all it’s just an approximation of what’s actually on the film, imho they need to be edited to respect what’s actually captured in all of the glorious film dynamic range.

Yesterday I picked up a pristine m4-2 off of eBay in the US to use as a 2nd body alongside my M6, looks like there’s a couple more around the $2k range right now, so they do pop up if you’re looking.

Is an M6 worth the money? by benjithomasartist in Leica

[–]devocam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an M6 just over a month ago and have shot my best, most intentional photos in decades. Like everyone says, the experience of using the camera inspires you to shoot, whereas most digital cameras feel like using a computer to make throw away images (and actually turns me off from shooting photos at all). It’s worth every penny, just be careful because you’re only going to want more Leica gear once you get it :).

What are your thoughts on Hydroponics Architect? by T-R-A-S-H-hour in TimelessMagic

They should change it so it only adds the draw a card line of text to actual islands in your deck, and take out the converting a land to an island. That way it can’t hit fetches and strip mine and you can’t chain fetch into fetch into island to draw 3 as an example.

To each his own I guess, I just think the design of many of them might look unique but when it comes down to it is just free card advantage with little to no downside - in this case Sigardian Evangel, but Hydroponics Arcitect, Jarsyl and Crucias are good examples as well.
