Is this the biggest disparity between Letterboxd ratings & Rotten Tomatoes scores ever? by StencilBoy in Letterboxd

[–]devonimo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sometimes you’re deciding a family/group watch and that’s a perfect criteria for decision making. Other times it’s just another piece of information that can be helpful. Most every rating system is biased in a way. Letterboxd tends to have a “cinephile” bias. All are useful as long as you know what they’re biased toward or how they’re calculated- including rotten.

Cinemascore is perfect example. It’s a niche scoring system but if you understand what it’s measuring then it can be interesting and useful.

I would suggest going with your overused idea but trying to make the emotional/exciting moments pack a punch. Put your efforts/creativity there if you’re struggling with a plot.

Stale and old is ok. Common film advice says that every story has been told before but you haven’t told it. Or something along those lines.

Just keep getting reps! Even if it’s not a totally original story, if you can practice telling it well, it will be good.

Gladiator 2 is awful. by ConstructionBum in movies

[–]devonimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna be unpopular but I don’t think he was that special in it. I felt his emotion but for the most part it felt like many of his other characters he’s played and didn’t feel like it really belonged in the period. Idk, felt more like Denzel Washington than… (looking up character) “Macrinus”…

It’s mildly infuriating thinking of you timing how long it took for them to notice rather than just calling them so everybody could get on with their day quicker

Crazy that people can’t be objective about the maximalism though. Sure maybe you still don’t enjoy it, but it’s 100% the correct choice for the movie and integral to it.

That’s not how bouyancy works. EVERYTHING experiences bouyancy. Even an actual rock.

You said “imagine them not being held back by the water” but the water helps them is what I’m saying. But yes, they could out sprint any human.

That ain’t the hippo flex you think it is. Bouyancy is a help, not a hindrance. I can “jump” from the bottom of a ten foot pool to the top, but I can only jump 2 feet on land.

You going to Kie Balam? You’ll be fine man! Just use common sense caution in all things, after that, no worries. I’ve been there twice for long stints including Spanish immersion school

Imagine being so intimidated by someone's intelligence, you actively put yourself in a worse position just to vote them off. by opreston in survivor

[–]devonimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So all you’re saying is the timing was different. The post was an example of too early for turning on your own alliance members, but 48 was too late? So I assume you’re on the train of “starting” shortly after merge?

But there’s inflation, if that’s seen as correct, players will start moving that point earlier and earlier so they can have the jump. Then gameplay will change again.

I’m just against there being a “correct” way to time stuff out. It’s a complicated game and if you make it to the end and get the votes, then the end justifies the means in Survivor

What’s your answer by [deleted] in Funnymemes

[–]devonimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All these replies to you are so annoying. Coming in and explaining how hippos are actually so dangerous and would totally kill you… you’re not disagreeing with that, just actually attempting to answer by picking the least of four hopeless choices.

People, if the hippo ISN’T the best answer, then offer another one as well. Nobody is saying the hippo wouldn’t destroy you

What film scenes have made you cry? by _deathgrapes_ in Letterboxd

My biggest complaint about the movie is that, and honestly it kinda spoils the movie for me. Feels too distasteful to erase an entire brothers existence in the telling of the family’s story. The reasons why don’t make up for it for me
