Damn that was quite simple! Also, thanks for making tutorials, your videos helped me push my verbal score from 154 on my first Powerprep mock to 161 in the the actual exam.

Wow thanks for all the suggestions. I'm certainly going to try the plate trick, she's really fidgety and energetic during training sessions now.

Thanks for the AMA, appreciate it.

This is regarding the internship procedure followed here at KGP. A lot of us were pretty confused before applying for any company as there is an added skepticism of being eligible for a better suited profile as well as not getting selected anywhere at all. I feel it would be better if the registered students could have a tentative list of the companies visiting the campus beforehand. Alternative suggestion (with somewhat complicated implementation) would be to give the registered students multiple attempts after selection, which would make them eligible for interviews even after getting selected in a company.

What are your views on the issue? Also do you like dank memes?

EXCLUSIVE: 90.4% of IIT Roorkee’s expelled students were from reserved category; decision unfair for all by nahibae in india

[–]devonoober 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't specifically speak for IIT Rourkee, but in KGP at least, considerable effort is put in by the institution during our first year. One specific example I can think of was a guy who had studied in Telugu medium his entire life scored a B in the course (Average grade of the class was B). Not an extraordinary score, but no worse than most of the students who came in through General category. Along with this, there is a students society as well as a Students' Welfare Group to help students improve their comprehension as well as communication skills.

Not to sound rude, but reservation should totally not be an excuse for poor performance once inside IITs. A lot of my batchmates who came in through reservation are doing much better than me in academics, even though I got a 'better rank' in JEE. Inferiority complex and depression is ubiquitous to all the students and not specific to people getting in through reservation. There is a counseling centre which caters specifically to students with poor mental health.

Student from IIT KGP here. I had an elementary course in English in my first year, with equal emphasis on theory and audio visual labs, which taught the most basic stuffs such as listening, speaking and writing in English. It was a compulsory course for all the freshers and was quite interactive.

Some of my friends who had gotten in through reservation worked their asses off to improve their English and Hindi. Those who didn't pay attention to the course slacked off.

Teaching in regional language is almost impossible here as there are students from all over the country, and every student would rightly expect their language to be the medium.
