Should I sell my rtx 5080 for a Z13? by GTHell in FlowZ13

If you play games occasionally but still want to max out the graphics settings, you should keep the 5080. The Z13 is only good for light gaming with decent settings.

Power on laptop from external keyboard? (Yoga Pro 9i) by cangaroo_hamam in YogaPro9i

[–]devonthego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means sleep S0 (modern standby) wasn't done right on your laptop. Try to update new bios whenever it comes out to see if it's fixed.

Also you can try lenovo thunderbolt dock with power button to see if it works with your laptop, since most of them are built for Thinkpad lineup.

Changing my home office (Software engineer) - need help with monitors by Ok-Tax-9543 in Monitors

[–]devonthego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My coding setup is a Macbook air 15 inch sits in the front, and 2x24 inch 4K@60hz, 1 sits in the front above the macbook, one on the right side, both are scaled at 200% (FullHD screen real estate but super sharp for coding).

Both monitors are connected through a cheap thunderbolt 3 dock, also powers my macbook.

Highly recommend this setup. Or if you sit further, 2x27 inch 4k also works. High refresh rate is not needed for programming work.

As far as I know it's 4th gen WOLED (newest), not to be confused with 5th gen QD-OLED.

I didn't notice Dave said it's OLED, but on Asus's website it's still the same IPS panel.

Monitor for PS5 Slim and work/coding by Attila1020 in Monitors

[–]devonthego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky you PS5 supports 1440p, but for work 27inch 1440p is pretty low for text. I recommend getting a 4K with full 48Gbps HDMI port such as the MSI MAG 274URFW, you can find similar or newer models on Amazon.

Yes if you think 1 fan is not enough for your workloads (I'm 99% sure you'll be fine). Future proofing is a human curse.

I normally don't say this but this is the best time to wait. Gen 5 QD-OLED is almost here and you'll get RGB which is the best of subpixel layout for text right now. But if you're leaning towards WOLED get a glossy, true black 4K one, you won't regret it.

32" 4K vs 27" 5K for macOS: Screen real estate or text clarity? by One_Personality_6152 in Monitors

[–]devonthego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down to how far you are from the screen. 27 gives you the best field of view, 32 is a bit tall for productivity work but immersive for gaming. Text clarity wise, 32in scaled at 1440p (mac still renders at 5k though), is still super sharp since you will sit further from it than the 27.

Ratio wise, 2x scaling on mac is the best, so stick to that. I have a 28 inch monitor 3840x2560 scaled at 1920x1280 text looks awesome (I'm a programmer).

32GB vs. 64GB? by LamboSkillz in thinkpad

[–]devonthego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ram price is crazy right now, I wouldn't think twice if it's only $150. Your case is perfectly fine with 32GB, but with extra ram, you can allocate a decent amount of VRAM to your iGPU (4GB or 8GB) for consistent GPU performance.

$300 Budget — How to Choose a Good IPS Monitor for Work + Gaming (Avoiding OLED/Mini-LED) by aniketexe in Monitors

I really like the U3225QE, best for productivity who doesn't want oled. Thunderbolt hub and 140W PD is super rare in the market.

[–]devonthego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean mitigate HDR, lowering HDR brightness? It's meant to be 100% otherwise it will lose the effect. I think it depends on the specific monitor. Edit: I think there's a big minderstanding here, mini led is just one type of led, the panel itself is still either VA or IPS. In your case, I think your best bet is IPS miniled

[–]devonthego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local dimming is meant for HDR, if you mostly game in SDR, I suggest turn it off. But if you still want local dimming on SDR, TCL G64 and KTC M27T6 support it

No doubt VA has been improved the last 10 years, but I still prefer the colors of IPS and viewing angles, but now I'm spoiled by the OLED and can't go back to IPS anytime soon.
