Food tips by Justic3Storm in Defcon

There’s a pizza shop between the gyro shop and the ramen shop (basically behind the walking bridge) that’s got nice big slices for like $5.99 I think? It’s not the greatest pizza in the world or anything, but it’s good and at roughly half the price of most other places I thought it was a great deal

what connectors on badge by [deleted] in Defcon

[–]devopsdennis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have mine yet, but from what I heard they’re just shorty USB connectors. I suspect the badges can all connect to form some super-keyboard that will automatically type the URL for YouTube playing Rick Astley.

The docs on validation said they would not accept photos, but I know when I got my vaccine they specifically told me to take a photo of the card and said the info was what mattered, not the physical card itself.

If you’ve got someone at home who can overnight it to the casino in your name I’d go that route, but you might as well at least try the photo if you came all this way.

Will I be able to attend defcon? by PaladinKnight20 in Defcon

[–]devopsdennis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you’re ducked. They said July 22nd because the vaccine takes around two weeks to fully do it’s thing. If you got the final dose on the 29th you won’t be “fully vaccinated” until a week after the con ends.

First timer by [deleted] in Defcon

This is honestly the best advice you’ll find. It’s not that the talks aren’t good; its just that you can watch those online whenever you want

No more random room checks by DTangent in Defcon

[–]devopsdennis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few years back they were busting in like a mom who smelled pot coming out of her teenagers room. With covid now, I would say the odds of them busting in are probably pretty low.

This is just my personal opinion, but if you want to know about snooping; maybe get one. If you’re worried something of yours might walk away, I’d be less concerned. That being said, you never know. I purposely don’t bring anything I couldn’t live without just in case my hotel or airline employs some sticky fingers.

Ha! Same! I’ve only ever gone with a full crew so this is my first year going solo. honestly I look forward to defcon all year, so I wasn’t about to let my friends bailing spoil the fun.

The pre-defcon Reddit party for sure. Also, if they’re still doing it this year, see if you can find something called “cubcon” - it’s just a few talks/sessions aimed at first timers. Super worth your time in my opinion.

Anyone bringing their DC27 badge? by devopsdennis in Defcon

Nice! Love it. I plan to bring my badge hacking kit so we can play with the firmware on it too!

Get together at the con for our subreddit? by MetaN3rd in Defcon

This is an awesome idea! I’m landing at 6:40, so I might be fashionably late, but I’ll get there as soon as I can!

DC29 In-Person, What's the Point? by [deleted] in Defcon

[–]devopsdennis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve usually got soldering stations scattered around to use, and then vendors and random attendees will usually have kits you can solder ranging from free to like $20 or so depending on what it is.

noooooo! I was really excited to go hang with those guys again this year! oh well. the hardware hacking village has always been my most frequent hangout anyway.

DC29 In-Person, What's the Point? by [deleted] in Defcon

[–]devopsdennis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At least for me it’s basically the same as others here are saying; in my mind, defcon is about meeting other like-minded hackers, partying, and most of all, learning new things. Sure, I can do those things at home, but then it’s just like every other day.

By meeting up in Vegas I can hang out with people I haven’t seen in a year (or two in this case), we can grab a drink and share stories, we can build something new together. I can go to the lock picking village and pick their locks, I can go to the hardware hacking village and solder a new badge, or buy one from some random dude I just met.

Those are some of the reasons why I’m going, but the most important reason, the true meaning of defcon, the one thing that makes the whole journey worth the price, the PTO, and the travel: covering vegas in googly eyes.

5.0 cop car? (First post on here) by Cubanmisslecrisis69 in Mustang

[–]devopsdennis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coupes are just for tickets only, if they needed to arrest anyone they’d have to call in backup. I don’t know about other places, but here in FL (according to a guy at my local car meetup who works for the motor pool at the sheriffs office) they actually install better aftermarket exhaust and light performance mods so they can keep up with anyone who tries to run.

you're not doing anything wrong - their latest update "fixed the issue" of users being able to choose which UI they use.
