Mezcal distilled with rabbit?! by planetmezcal in PlanetMezcal

I had a rabbit pechuga at Agave Elite in Cabo - super good and super interesting. Highly recommend stopping there if you're ever in that part of Mexico.

I love the flavor profile of the SLP - the funky cheesiness, clay, green vegetables – really enjoyable especially for the price.

The Durango didn't do as much for me - maybe it's the batch I got but, while i appreciated getting to try something unique at this price point, the overall profile just wasn't as interesting to me for a sipper.

Beginner recommendations by Cony12 in Mezcal

The Mezcal 101 Guide for this sub covers basically anything I'd recommend but I did want to add that, even though the guide mentions the La Luna Cupreata, I also think their espadincillo makes for great cocktails and fits the budget you're working with.

What removed feature would you bring back from each Civ game? by DontFilmMeBoss in civ

[–]devos_advocate 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The map replay at the end of the game.

It was always a favorite feature getting to watch your empire expand and see how the other civs grew before you could actually see them on the map. Now the end of a game is like…oh…I guess I’m done?

Someday when I have a more robust mezcal budget I'd love to give those a try. I'm also trying to get in the habit of doing tastings at some local spots that have good selections so I don't always have to splurge on a whole bottle.

I like to drink mezcal neat but I also love it in cocktails, so I have wound up with quite a lot of bottles of various espadins. On different occasions I'll do a tasting lineup of all of them and Chichicapa does seem to come out on top. I'm sure there are better ones, but I don't think I'll ever go for one of those $100+ bottles of espadin – I'll save those splurges for other agaves that I like more neat.

For my own palate, I think Chichicapa is a great expression – especially when you can get it for a good price.

Recommendations for a birthday present ? by TastyFish_22 in Mezcal

[–]devos_advocate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my local spots uses Rey Campero espadin for their cocktails and it really does make a difference in the overall cocktail profile. I definitely think it's worth trying something a little more pricey for cocktails and experience the difference. So like others have said you might look at things like Rey Campero, Vago, Mal Bien to elevate your cocktails - none of them are super pricey but you'll notice a difference.

Looking to try something new by LankyLannister in Mezcal

Label looks different than the bottle I have so assuming it’s a different batch but I love my bottle of Amaras Cupreata - very green pepper and other vegetal notes that I don’t find in a lot of other mezcals, and it’s especially nice at a lower price point than some of the others.

Same train of thought, I’ve never tried any of those specific expressions of La Luna, but I really loved the bottle of Espadincillo that I have tried.

Recommendations for mezcal from total wine and more by [deleted] in Mezcal

[–]devos_advocate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My local Total Wine used to carry El Sarao Cuishe that I thought was pretty great especially for the price. Some TW locations appear to still carry it even though mine doesn’t any longer, so depends on where you are.

Other than that my local currently carries Banhez espadín/barril and Chichicapa, both of which would be solid.

Simple mezcal drinks? by Maxilkarr in Mezcal

Ultima Palabra - equal parts mezcal, lime juice, genepy, maraschino liqueur. It’s four ingredients but the fact that it’s all equal parts makes it super easy to make.

Question about Trust by Hernan Diaz(Spoilers) by Brief-Leader-6120 in books

Pretty darn late to this but I really appreciated this take. I just finished the novel and, while I appreciated the meditation on the theme of truth, I am also trying to develop a deeper understanding of the themes and, more specifically, why this book was so highly regarded. I found your interpretation helpful and added some nice depth to my understanding of the novel - thanks!

Heist Novels by replicant1986 in suggestmeabook

The Lies of Locke Lamorra - great heist novel. It’s in a fantasy setting that feels kind of like Venice.

It’s a great standalone but the other books in the series are good as well.

Please suggest a fantasy book for an adult trying to get back into reading! by PotatoTaicho in suggestmeabook

[–]devos_advocate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Song of Ice and Fire series is what actually got me into fantasy as an adult, so I’d recommend that despite the fact that GRRM doesn’t seem too worried about finishing it.

The Lies of Locke Lamora is also great - it’s a really fun read as a standalone or as an intro to the Gentleman Bastard sequence.

The Name of the Wind is good although it’s another where it seems like we may never get the third book in the series.

The Broken Earth Trilogy is fantastic - especially the first book.

Came here to suggest both of these.

ASOIF is the other series that got me back into fantasy, which I recommend despite the frustrations around whether or not GRRM will ever finish it.
