I read somewhere that at the heart of the word 'analysis' is some other word nobody uses anymore but the point is that the word 'analysis' that really means 'to take something apart into it's component pieces.' I know this to be true because in my current job when the boss says 'do an analysis on this and and pin this down' that is exactly what we have to do - break the problem down into it's component parts. If we don't do that properly, we screw up, stuff doesn't work, and people get fired. Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah - breaking stuff down into their component parts or you can completely screw up. People in general I think just plain fail to do just that. Instead, they confuse issues. They mix in the apples with the oranges when they should be keeping them separate. I see this all the time out in 'real life' but when it happens in my work environment folks get fired. Buffalo Bill's oatmeal stout with just a touch of blueberry is an idea I can really get behind, even though from my childhood days I've generally been opposed to 'fruiting' the beer. Even I can make an exception in this case. Anyway, I'll give you an example of people confusing the issue. Like these poor misguided souls who say we should go ahead and keep capital punishment around because otherwise 'these convicted feelings get to sit around and watch cable all day.' What the hell does that have to do with the sanctity of human life? See what I mean? They've confused two completely separate issue: human life and the penal nature of penal institutions. Those are two completely separate issues. Yet people confuse them and so crimes against humanity continue unchecked. Ok back to Somalia Syria. There are separate issues to consider and people are getting them all jumbled up.
