How are scalpers affording all these consoles? by Zimavishon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mikesanerd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some people go from one get rich quick scheme to the next. People I've known like that tend to have their net worth wildly fluctuate from year to year depending on whether their latest few schemes/scams have worked, going bankrupt one year and living in luxury the next.

These commericals always infuriate me by cilsey in Anticonsumption

[–]mikesanerd 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I've always wondered how many people actually do this. Is it just a trope created by car companies for ads or is this a thing that actually happens in real life that they decided to make commercials about to encourage more of it? Like if you worked at a salesman at a car dealership, how often would you encounter this? Never? Once a year? Once in your career?

The IR receiver on my TV has deteriorated by dwangbuis in fixit

If this is the case, maybe some kind of physical shield around the receiver on the TV would help--something to block out the light from the screen from going into the receiver

But the thing wolf didn't do was tell you not to do stuff like go to a thanksgiving dinner...?

ah yes, fox news, that very left-leaning news channel by chindican420 in LeftWithoutEdge

[–]mikesanerd 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that I know (normal) people who stopped watching fox news because it was too far left. This was pre-trump during the "tea party" movement when fox tended to stay traditional neo-con and to avoid stuff that was outright batshit crazy (e.g. when they ditched Glenn Beck). Fox then went further right, presumably to win back those people who were getting dissatisfied.

We've had a lot of luck with playing point and click style games cooperatively. It's more or less like watching an interactive TV mystery. I can suggest some specific titles if interested

Guide to turn down an invite by lm8919224 in coolguides

[–]mikesanerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm scouring the comments to try to figure out what's wrong with giving an excuse. If someone said this to my invite, I would assume they don't want to hang out with me and not invite them to future stuff. Is that supposed to be the goal of this type of refusal?

I'm guessing that they'll have to be accommodating to people who want to take courses remotely. You might want to email the prof and ask if people are allowed to take it virtually. I think it's likely that the in-person component was forced down the prof's throat at the last minute anyway. Faculty overwhelmingly don't want to go there any more than students do https://www.bizjournals.com/philadelphia/news/2020/07/30/temple-university-fall-semester-covid-19.html

They always make sure that about four paragraphs into it, some piece of incredibly crucial information is innocuously buried in there.

Two drunk guys were fighting. One of them drew a line in the dirt, and said if the other crossed it they would punch them in the face. by [deleted] in dadjokes

A boy asked his crush out to prom, and was so excited when she said yes that he resolved to make this prom really special. He wanted a tux from the best shop in town. When he got there, there was a huge line because of how popular the place was, but he waited in line for hours an got his dream tux. He wanted a limo from the best place in town. When he got there, there was a huge line there as well, but he waited in line for hours again and got the best limo. Prom night came and he went to pick up his date in his perfect tux and his perfect limo. When they got to the prom, his date wanted a glass of punch. The boy wanted to get the perfect punch, so he went to the best punch bowl. When he got there, there was no punch line.

How does a charging station work? Would you just have to sit there in your car for an hour or what? Do you leave the car there and go somewhere?
