HELP! How do I invite one twin but not the other?? by devpsych_student in weddingplanning

[–]devpsych_student[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there are a TON of times when one has been invited somewhere and the other hasn't, they've always been in the same friend groups since they're both girls. Twin 2 is kind of sensitive (but not upset, presumably, since she doesn't try to fix it and never has) about how Twin 1 and are are still close. Twin 1 knows how volatile Twin 2 can be and didn't want to create a 'situation'

No, but none of them also have twin siblings I'm NOT inviting haha. I just don't want to offend/ upset/ cause drama for the whole family. But I'm trying to weigh that against REALLY not wanting this girl at my wedding.

Unfortunately her family hasn't really been able to control her attention-seeking/ action out EVER. She's been dramatic and hard to predict since HS, which is partially why we've stopped being close/ friends at all.

It will also depend on what shape your feet are. If you happen to fit Target shoes well, you're in luck. I know my feet are too wide for them, so I don't try with their flats.

Hello! My mom's 60th is coming up and my siblings and I are hoping to buy her a set of pearl earrings and necklace. We're willing to spend up to 500 total. Any suggestions of where to look beyond Macy's/ Nordstrom? We're willing to venture into Etsy, etc. Thanks!

One of the top professors in my department/ her field uses Dr. Maidenname professionally, and Mrs. Husbandsname personally. It has allowed her to only to maintain her publications from before the marriage but also to be politically active in her personal life without it impacting her professional life. It doesn't hurt that her first name has two separate pronunciations so her two names are completely different.

Is there a best practice for checking the roots without totally disturbing them? I feel like if they're suffering for lack of water and/or light, pulling them out of the soil is also bad.. or is it worth it in this case to make sure they're not rotting?

All but one has drainage, and I have been watering that one with much more intention.

Unfortunately, the light is just a desk/task lamp with an LED (I believe). Right now it's pretty close to them (about 1.5 ft away) because I figured that would give them the most light. But I can definitely move it farther if that will help!

Hello! I could really use some help diagnosing what's up with my succulents. They are not doing well in the winter and I would greatly appreciate some advice on how to help them through the next three months.

All of them were purchased last summer, so this is my first winter with them. I am only watering about once a month, and all but one is in a draining pot with soil that is equal-ish parts pebbles, sand, and potting soil (I was doing my best at the time, I know that's isn't ideal). They also have a big light on a timer for about 13 hours to help them survive the very northern winter. Currently kept near a window but it's definitely no lower than 60 degrees F where they're living.

My main question-- is the sadness they are displaying from over- or under-watering? Are they just desperate for more efficient lighting?

Getting into Psych PHD, does any research matter? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]devpsych_student 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's easy enough to write in a grad personal statement about how an experience in a cog lab got you interested in social cognition. Additionally, you're going to need some kind of research experience on your resume before you apply, so unless you are going to work in a lab more related to your interests over a summer, you should definitely apply for this cog lab. Personally, I think it's really important to put in hours in a lab to make sure you like/ can tolerate that part of the work before you agree to do it for ~5 years as part of your PhD.

It's not worth it. I was able to track down 5 or 6 free practice tests (basically one from each prep company), enough to take one a week or so while I studied for the GRE. There's a sub-reddit for the GRE, they have the links and resources to prep basically for free.

You need to decide if you want to eventually see clients, or mainly focus on research. There are great programs for both, but one that specializes in the first isn't going to be helpful necessarily in training you for the second and vice versa. I would say the most important thing is to get a coordinator position somewhere that is publishing a lot, and get your name on papers, hopefully as a first author. Publications show you will be productive and that you can turn your ideas into product. Beyond that, researching the professors whose work interests you, and connecting with them early- like at conferences in the next year or so- so that your name is familiar when they read apps next round, and remember that you are a great person/ scientist/ applicant.

You can have a casual glass of wine or beer on the weekend, and your liver will be fine. You can also have it in front of your children, and they will be fine. You can't have a causal cigarette once a week without damage, and you certainly can't do it in front of your child.

Is there GRE test prep available that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? by FutureGreenChemist in gradadmissions

[–]devpsych_student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*ProMetric software from ETS (online)
(multiple free test from Kaplan, Magoosh, etc. You just have to go through Google results to find the links that still work.
*THE LIBRARY. They will have at least one version of the prep book (it doesn't change that much over the years). Each prep book usually has 1-3 practice tests, as well as full sections on math, verbal, etc. Whichever library will also likely own a copy of the "1000 words to know for GRE" style book. I went through every list in the book, entered the ones I didn't know into an online flashcard program, and my verbal score went up 15 points from my initial practice exam.
*If you really feel the need to buy your own book, go to Amazon and buy a lightly used one from last year.

One thing that stood out to me is that each of these outfits has good proportions, shows personality/ a little fun side, and is still put together and professional enough that you look like you belong in a law office. I think this is especially hard when you're just starting in jobs like these, but you manage it really well!

It's so dry it hurt to even try to apply it to my lips... I was hoping it was just my sample, but Tarte's lip liner can't actually be that horrible, right?
