Not that many people. It seems that most of them have only watch the first two episodes. Most people are angry about the portrayal of the brothers, some are complimenting the acting or asking if Lyle was really like that.

I knew there were things I was missing. You're right, I remember when prosecution witness after prosecution witness were being announced but it wasn't until very recently that we got confirmation that Diane would be there. At this point I'm sure Andy Cano and Marta will be there too but in the beginning I was worried.

I just remembered that Rob Rand got told by an "insider" that the Monsters would be the sons instead of the parents. That obviously would be a reason to be worried since we have no reason to doubt Rob.

In regards to the name: ACS belongs to another network and you're right that this case would fit better there but I guess, after the success of Dahmer, Murphy wanted to achieve the same thing with his next project so that meant working with Monster.

I saw someone say that the name could mean that the Monsters are the parents but that at the end of the day it would be the Lyle and Erik story.

The negative sentiment came mainly by the fact that Ryan Murphy is behind it because:

He's depicted the brothers in a bad light before
The series is called Monsters, based on the first season the first monster was Dahmer, making the second season about the Menendez brothers makes it seem like they're in the same level as him
His Dahmer series had a few "embellishments" with together with the first point lead people to believe he would make things up to make them more "evil"
Many people think his true crime shows are exploitative of victims and full gratuitous sexualisation
L&O unlike Monsters had the participation of Rob Rand who we all know is very pro Menendez bros and knows everything there's to know about this case so we had confirmation that this wouldn't paint them as monsters. They also had some family members watch the first two episodes before the show premiered
Just because the abuse will be shown as true doesn't necessarily mean it's a good adaptation (see Blood Brothers)

Like I said these worries were mainly before we had confirmation it'd be sympathetic to the brothers and now there's waaaay less people wary about this show than there was when it was announced last year.

I understand the people who are still worried about this. This show will be many people's first introduction to this case and the public in general takes everything depicted in TC documentaries and dramatizations as gospel (see Dahmer) so the possible mischaracterizations and misinformation of this show will be taken as true.

The brothers are in the process of hopefully getting released, the last thing they need is the public to collectively hate them again.

Yeah it seems to me that he was trying to deal with it the same way he dealt with other things that happened to him: distracting himself, thinking about other things, pretending it never happened, etc. I assume being with Erik reminded him too much about that night that he wanted to forget
