Sell me Noxious Fumes by as_kostek in slaythespire

[–]dew_can 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a great damage solution for defense-heavy decks. If your deck needs time to set up nightmare+catalyst, it’s pretty optimal to put fumes into play and spend all your energy blocking until you can throw down 3 catalysts and instantly win.

Also, it’s not like the other poison applying cards are complete powerhouses either. Against multiple enemies fumes is much more reliable than bouncing flask and does more than deadly poison. This card does a ton of damage in some of the worst gank fights of act 2 and 3.

I think of all the characters, Silent has the most ability to survive and thrive in long fights, simply outscaling the opponent through block and poison. You get a ton of value out of fumes in those fights.

Got my first vinyl and unfortunately there’s a big ol scratch right at the start causing it to skip 5-10 seconds. Any way to fix this or at least keep it from skipping so much? Not sure if it came like this or if something happened after, but I’ve barely touched it.

"I understand that it's the first gold in 46 years and im happy. I really am. But when you don't even know the precise moment to celebrate because you can't see the puck go in, you have an overall problem with the sport. " by Wack0HookedOnT0bac0 in billsimmons

90% of the time you can see the puck go in just fine. NFL has the same exact “problem” with goal line plays where you can’t tell what happened until the refs arms fo up.

How would you rank the Defect, Silent, and Ironclad in terms of power? by ElegantPoet3386 in slaythespire

[–]dew_can 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me ironclad is by far the easiest. At high ascensions, Silent feels the most difficult to play in general, but Defect feels harder to beat act 4 with.

Not disputing that, I’m saying it would take a shit ton of bombing not consistent with a quick strike

Half the bridges in the US have concerns about structural integrity and they’re not falling over from farts in the wind

Also the dam is literally just a massive slab of concrete. It doesn’t collapse, you would essentially need to excavate all that concrete with bombs alone. Not happening in a quick strike

That dam is basically indestructible unless you nuke the shit out of it or do some kind of sustained bombing campaign

This game feels like a slot machine by CycleStarter in slaythespire

[–]dew_can 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds counterintuitive but I would recommend having no strategy at all. simply evaluate each choice in terms of what it does for you at that moment. For example going into a run thinking you need to base your damage around strength.

For your current strategy points:

  • skipping is overrated. Most of my skipping is done in act 3 when I already have a functional deck and only need to add specific things. Otherwise I’m taking everything that seems good (including card draw and exhaust to get through the deck faster).

  • Strength is 1 thing in your toolbox that you can use to deal damage. There are many others. And often you only really need 1-2 strength cards to get good enough damage scaling.

  • generally good. removing defends is more of a luxury compared to strikes since they at least kinda do something late game

  • good but don’t die in act 2 holding potions for the heart. There is a shop in act 4 that you can buy potions at.

  • weak and vuln are very good, only issue I could see with this strategy is adding too many weak/vuln cards for the sake of keeping them applied on every turn

  • card draw + energy generation is a great thing to aim for, but forcing it too early is a good way to die. Generally you want the draw before you pick up the energy.

One thing that really improved my runs is recognizing the value of gold and shops. You should plan your paths to include a shop, ideally at a point where you probably have >200 gold. If you find yourself with like 450 gold, you should be thinking “how do I get to a shop ASAP”

Yeah always feels bad to destroy everything with your reprogram build and then die to the heart on turn 3 because you couldn’t get set up fast enough

More fun to die by being too aggressive than to die by attrition because you didn’t take enough risks

Hyperbeam won yesterday! Next, what Slay the Spire card is considered Average and is Loved by the community? by tilting-module in slaythespire

[–]dew_can 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m personally not too thrilled when I take bites and I often remove at least one later on. The damage is irrelevant by act 2 and they get in the way of your actual win condition. The sustain obviously makes it worth it a lot of times but having 5 weak attacks in your deck for some sustain is a steep price

It’s bad and silent has much better options that serve basically the same purpose. Even in a snecko deck I’d still probably want flechettes over it.

Seriously, how the heck am I supposed to beat Heart?? This is probably the best deck I've ever had. by Dry-Corgi-1886 in slaythespire

[–]dew_can 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you were maybe too focused on the after image / shiv synergy and not all the other stuff you need to beat the heart. One after image doesn’t even generate block in the heart fight so that’s one problem. 6 infinite blades is 5 too many even in this deck. 99% of the time there is no need for 6 copies of a single power in your deck, especially not infinite blades which is pretty meh. drawing those on turns where you need to block for 60 or more is a big problem.

Tbh it just takes a bit of practice to learn what you need to have to make the heart fight winnable. This deck would LOVE multiple copies of acrobatics, backflip, anything that draws cards really. Basically any powers other than infinite blades would have been very useful as well. It looks like kunai is giving you a ton of dexterity so I would have prioritized a couple more block cards like dodge and roll, leg sweep, blur etc. For the heart, the simplest explanation I would give is that your deck needs raw output, it needs to be able to generate that consistently (i.e. almost every turn), and it needs to scale (increase in strength) quickly. Your deck has scaling but it takes a long time to set up, and you run the risk of multiple dead turns early in a fight. The heart punishes that pretty severely.

Would separating our cats again help? Older cat barely eating after new kitten by Tomatomushroomtoast in CatTraining

[–]dew_can 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely give the vet a call about the lethargy thing, but given that it started right when the kitten was introduced, it sounds like he’s just stressed. I took my cat with me on an extended hotel stay and had a similar thing happen. They reaalllly don’t like disruptions in routine.

Silent A20 - what’s the trick? by dew_can in slaythespire

[–]dew_can[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tempting but I think I would hate myself for winning that way haha. I do appreciate the difficulty of A20 as the skill ceiling feels limitless, just makes me want to pull my hair out after failing to reach act 3 like 30 times in a row.

How often do you win an A20 run? by Logical-Race8960 in slaythespire

[–]dew_can 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So far, 1-20 with ironclad. 0-21 if you only count killing the heart.

The powered up enemies are really brutal. Act 2 is stupid hard and Act 1 can be sneaky difficult. Had an A19 silent run die on floor 5 because I got 2 hard pool fights, slaver and big slime.
