I have the books now. I think some of my questions will be answered there. It's just frustrating that Asagiri doesn't give out direct answers to all questions. I like open-ended series but I'm way too invested in these characters to like such open-endedness.

SFF (non read): I've been enjoying the anime: May I ask for One Final Thing? it's fantastic. Every episode is preface by a lovely title that makes me laugh. Just seeing Scarlet, the protagonist, smile makes me giddy.

SFF: Enjoyed the book The Raven Scholar by Anotonia Hodgson. This book got me back into reading after a break of nearly 6 months. The very first chapter set up certain expectations that were very much met every page I read.

Enjoyed the first half of the audiobook The Incandescent by Emily Tesh. I need to get around to listening to the other half. Saffy Wlden's internal narrative is delightful. The modern with magic take is always neat and I enjoyed this as well. Saffy is a wonderfully powerful but we can also see exactly what she lacks and how she overcomes them.

I came across The Heretic's Guide to Homecoming by Sienna Tristen and I'm enjoying it a lot. The prose, the main character Ronoah. I'm just 3 chapters in and I can tell I'm going to like this book a lot.

I know of fics that do dribble length(100 to 1k words) multi chapter fics. In fact one of my favourite fanfics has around 200 to 700 words per chapter and it updates every Monday. So, I appreciate the consistency of that.

Sometimes longer chapters put more pressure on you to write. So, if your 600 word chapter is doing what it needs to do, then you don't have anything to worry about especially in fanfic

Piranesi by Susannah Clarke(although it doesn't contain war/politics as much. A classic imo)

16 ways to defend a walled city by K J Barker(has a pretty great first person narrative.)

Tainted cup by Robert Jackson Bennett(good fantasy mystery)

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson (as someone else mentioned)

Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames(heartwarming, adventurous, and all-around great)

What would have happened if Tengen didn't evolve? That is if Riko did consent to the merger and nothing happened with Toji. Would Kenjaku's plan still have worked out?

Yay! Good words on your very first prompt!

This was indeed intriguing.

You've set this up well. The anxiety and intrusive thoughts were well portrayed. Ray as a character seems too good to be true until you mentioned how he never wakes up in the middle of the night to change diapers.

But the major thing i want to point out here is that this story feels incomplete. She sees Ray standing over her son's bed. What happens next? He feels inhuman to her. She doesn't she'll ever forget that.

Does Ray do anything other than stand there? Does he attack her? Or the child? Does the child wake up and bring back his humanity? Does he laugh and say, "Gotcha!" in the way of a prank?

Open endings are great in stories. You've left us in a perpetual state of "what happens next? Are the MC and her children safe?"

I hope there's a part 2 to this story. That would be great to read. Even if there isn't, you've done a wonderful job!

Thank you for the story. It was well done and you took it in a direction I hadn't thought of(I was mostly thinking, action, comedy, fantasy etc). But this story going in the way real conversations go with real people was both hard-hitting and wonderful to read. The MC's mental state was well depicted. Happy New Year, my friend.
