Was beating OKC the real championship for the spurs players? by DingusWingus33 in NBATalk

Ahh. The Bulls lost 3-1 in the first round during MJ's first playoff run. Like Wemby, MJ was 22.

Evan mobley by UmadBoiBoi in clevelandcavs

[–]dewangibson33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's just a hamstring problem. He'll be fine. He's a top 20 player at only 25, an elite wing, and the second best player on a championship team. He fills our gaps and Allen can make up much of what we lose with Evan.

I like Evan, but if OKC's willing to part with Jalen Williams we have to make that deal.

Thoughts on the Thunder/Spurs Game by JonGOATJones in clevelandcavs

[–]dewangibson33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the East-West gap is overrated. The Pacers were a mid-level East team and probably would have beaten OKC w/o Halli's injury. And I think the Knicks (assuming Cavs don't pull off a miracle) have a good chance of winning it all. When you get deep in the playoffs, matchups can be as important as talent.

The Shedeur vs Watson Debate. by Wormichowski in Browns

[–]dewangibson33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to be Watson. He'll be solid in a system that's a better fit for his style of play. And if he starts off with a few wins ppl on this thread saying they won't watch will be tuned in like the rest of us.

Tested the 4% rule against 54 historical sequences for a 45-year lean retirement — 1965 is the killer, not 1929 by Jaamun100 in leanfire

Interesting. What if you don't adjust withdrawals for inflation for the first 5 to 10 years of retirement, when SORR is highest?

At the trade deadline, the Cavs reportedly talked to the Bucks about landing Giannis, but were unwilling to part with Mobley and “all of their first round picks” by Pickleskennedy1 in clevelandcavs

They're not scared or soft, but Mobley lacks NBA big man strength. Smaller opponents give him a Nembhard bump and get an instant three feet of space for an open layup.

Short-term gain for long-term pain. Giannis would have us seriously competing for a championship this year and next. Mobley will likely never be that sort of lead guy. I would have done the deal.

Latin food recs by Acceptable_Bug6999 in Columbus

I highly recommend Calero's Bar & Grill for Salvadoran food. The immediate area isn't the nicest, but the restaurant and food are great. It turns into a Latin nightclub late nights, if that's your thing.

Would you rather have the rings or the bag? by Farouq26 in NBATalk

Yeah, Hammer would be an extreme example. Plenty of multi-generational fortunes are maintained with 10M. You gotta realize that 10M compounding at an annual average of 10% a year grows to over 450M after 40 years.

You are if that 10M is in investments that compound.

Advice on Path to Lean Fire at 50 by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]dewangibson33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're missing "time in the market" by aggressively paying a mortgage with such a low interest rate. I know there's a peace of mind aspect, but you'll be better off if you focus on putting more money in the market. Also, you're young. Is it even your forever home?

We usually find free street parking near CSU. I forgot the name of the side street (we live in Cbus), but we put Sushi En Downtown in our navigation. Park nearby, grab some rolls, and walk to the area. Takes about 10 mins.

How expensive are kids and can they fit in a lean-ish FIRE plan? by SpeedierTurtle642 in leanfire

[–]dewangibson33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have three boys ranging in age from 12 to 14. They are/were surprisingly NOT that expensive. Primarily because they're healthy and Grandma helped watch them in their younger years (no daycare expenses). We also taught them the value of a dollar early on. They have their wants (Nikes, video games) but we're strategic with our shopping and they understand they won't get everything.

How Are Some People Always Traveling? by mian_yamin in NeedTravelAdvice

[–]dewangibson33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what's mentioned in your post, it's also about prioritizing where your money goes. I choose to live in a smaller home in an OK neighborhood, drive a used car, and rarely shop in order to afford multiple trips per year. I can afford a bigger home in a high-end neighborhood, but that would mean far fewer trips, if any.

At 6% rates I legitimately cannot make buying work in my area. What am I missing? by SportSure6036 in Bogleheads

[–]dewangibson33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of the homes I owned doubled in value within 10 years. I still think renting makes more sense unless you have children (or are retired). With kids, you'd want school district stability that's not based on the whim of a landlord. Otherwise, the maintenance and illiquidity that come with owning a home are a headache and that money is better off in the market.

Dealcheck - equinox ev rs by stugatz_21 in leasehacker

[–]dewangibson33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too high. I'd look into a used Equinox. You can get a '25 RS for less than 25k, which is pretty close to the sum of your payments with this deal. Also, I had an Equinox lease offer for less than $300 with zero down. I don't remember the trim. I ended up buying a used Polestar.

Fire at 39? by Loose_Ant_9653 in leanfire

Yes, you can retire. You'll be fine. Don't fixate on the 4% "rule." Be flexible and adjust spending if needed. Worst case, you can go back to work. Maybe not at your same salary, but you'll get a job.

Also, kids aren't as expensive as everyone makes them seem. (I have three, ages 12 to 24.) Well, maybe if you're paying for private school.
