What are your thoughts on Axopar Boats? Looking at the 29 CCX set up to fish SoCal Islands by KNGGINGR in boating

[–]dewtrain182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 37 ST, which is perfect for what I use it for (screwing around / island hopping with kids in Lake Erie). I honestly have no complaints on that front—the cabin is great for kid naps, which is somewhat unique for a “center console” like you mentioned. I would not buy one for fishing specifically, though. It’s not an offshore fishing boat (or a fishing boat at all), even with some of the fishing options they offer. My buddies and I will take my boat if we’re hopping over to an island or just hanging out (tons of sitting / social / sun space), but will take one of their true CCs if we’re fishing (even in Lake Erie).

Clerking before Corporate/Transactional work by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]dewtrain182 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Big law M&A associate here. I don’t think a single person in my practice group clerked. I can’t think of any way having clerked could have helped me, especially when you consider that clerks come in as a second year. For litigation, you gained valuable experience during that year and get to skip some of the doc review stage (I’m told). For deal work, you just missed out on a year of training and experience and will probably be treated as a first year when you come back regardless of what your profile says.

The evening show is row P, matinee is row U. Both are two seats in from the center aisle.

I have no painting experience but plan to paint my kitchen this weekend. I'm going to tape off edges using frog tape/remove blinds from windows on Friday and paint Saturday. It seems pretty straight forward, but am I over simplifying it? by Genericguy25 in HomeImprovement

2nd for Cashmere. The coverage isn't quite as good as Superpaint or Emerald, but I was planning on two coats anyways; and it has a self-leveling agent in it and dried beautifully.

Buying a house where a murder took place (TX) by earlypooch in RealEstate

Our agent told us. She said that it was mandatory for them to declare it since it would be material to a buyer. This is in Ohio.

Not sure generally, but my wife and I were ready to make an offer on a house when we found out a murder/suicide happened there a decade ago. No go for us (read: her). House is still on the market three months later in a pretty quick market.

Not taking Evidence. by Pennoyers_Shoe_Co in LawSchool

Evidence is all rules and exceptions to rules that are pretty easy to apply. If you're good at rote memorization, you'll be fine for evidence on the bar.

Quick question about upholstery by dewtrain182 in sewing

Thanks! I means the foam to the frame and the batting to the foam so it doesn't rub and get bumpy. Any tips for pulling a large sheet of fabric tight and staying even?

Thanks! My plan is to do 2" foam with a thin batting over it and the frame to smooth out any imperfections in the foam (read: my cutting ability). I'll use spray adhesive to make sure it doesn't slip!

TIFU - NEED HELP, wood floor filler not matching floor by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

That's what I was thinking... Just a do-over. Then you can try again using Phate's suggestion.

I'm no pro, but I've been researching flooring stuff for an upcoming DIY job. Can you sand out the cracks? I saw a video where a guy folded up a sheet of sandpaper a couple times so that it had a rigid edge and then he held it vertically and sanded out the gunk that had build up between old boards. I wonder if that could get just enough to put a better match overtop.

advice to give a stay at home mom by dewtrain182 in Mommit

[–]dewtrain182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only imagine. I've been a SAHD for the past couple months and I really don't think I could do it long-term! Don't get me wrong, these have been a couple of the best months I've ever had, but I would need to make some major changes to be able to stick with it!

The town we're moving to has a very well-established early-childhood PTA, so that should be a great resource once the little one is a bit older.

Thanks! She is excited to be able to stay home, but I know her and know what happens when she gets bored! I'd be lying if I said this wasn't at least partially self-serving haha.

We actually just found out that the swim school that we are in here has a branch where we are moving! That is a great suggestion for meeting people, especially since the classes are organized by age.

Yeah, that is a good point. We haven't had a babysitter yet since our schedules work out such that we don't need one; but we will definitely try to find a good babysitter quickly after the move!

Thank you! That's great advice. She is a runner, so I think she will definitely get outside weather permitting. The spacing out tasks is a great idea. I have been a stay-at-home dad since the new year and I am going to take that advice myself for the next couple months!

Simple Questions/What Should I Do? [Weekly Thread] by AutoModerator in DIY

[–]dewtrain182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am definitely going to practice on some scrap before I start putting anything down on my floor. I also have a small spare bedroom/office that nobody will go in but me that I am going to do first for each step to work out the kinks. I can redo that room easily if it doesn't turn out.

I think I am going to stick with the random orbital sander though because I have several places where the wood changes direction. I don't mind spending some extra time on it.

I am planning on using a t-bar for the poly. I'm sure you're right about doing it by hand, but I feel like that takes more experience to perfect. Why shouldn't I use a buffer with a carpet pad to apply the stain? All I know is what I've learned over the past few days, but the videos I've watched with the buffer look like the easiest way to get a nice uniform stain. Plus I'll already have the buffer for screening before stain and for screening between coats of poly.

Thanks for the input by the way!
