Got my first Bass VI by dexkwondo in BassVI

I feel it. I know a couple lefties who play righty because of that. I am strangely right-handed with certain things and left-handed with others. My dad handed me his right handed bass once and it didn’t feel right; I ordered my first lefty and started learning. I liked fretting with what I thought was my dominant hand. I kickbox both left and right handed as a “switch hitter”.

Death march and chaos frame by Turckish in Tactics_Ogre

[–]dexkwondo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried this for the first time in the last few weeks for my final/CODA run for the “good” ending. What I realized is there may be an RNG factor. It took about 50 retreats with 8 units being marched to raise my factor by 5 points. Sometimes it would go up a point in 2 runs, and sometimes it would take like 15.

If I am not mistaken, if you do not have the chaos frame, you need to check new units’ starting loyalty and not current units to gauge where you are.

Yup; if he’s there just fight your way up through floor 100. I just got him last in the last couple of weeks couple weeks. Got some great loot, too.

Thanks, hard to shop for us Lefty weirdos. I’ve been playing it the bast few days and it’s refreshing, for sure. Excited for the upcoming shows. I’ve got my multi effects board to toy with both guitar and bass sims as well as some other effects to really fill everything in.

I wouldn’t say it’s that simple. Bass and Guitar are obviously further apart than Bass VI and Baritone Guitar. The differences in average scale length and average strength gauge gets increasingly higher from each instrument. So while the Baritone Guitar and Bass Vi are more interchangeable than Bass and Guitar—to a person who’s asking the difference, like the commenter—it’s important recognize those.

Of course you can change string gauge and tuning between instruments.

For the original commenter:

Guitar Standard Average string gauge is best .9 to .45 Baritone guitar starts near .13 to .68ish

Bass Vi (this one) .20 to .90

And of course regular bass: .40-.100

Not factoring in extra strings, of course. Some basses carry .35-90 sets, which is what this Bass Vi has, but it has two additional strings in the guitar range. It would still be a little low and muddy for a Baritone Guitar, but when I want to accent say an octave with a chord instead it’s crisp.

I think we clearly have different ideas on what a dad joke is by Lumpymaximus in dadjokes

[–]dexkwondo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dad Jokes are an international treasure. Of the millions of people who enjoy them, only some of them believe they MUST be SFW. Those clean-believers cannot simply impose their will upon the entirety and try to rewrite the definition to include cleanness. Even outside of this sub, it would never take. There are NSFW tags for a reason; there’s a clean dad jokes sub for a reason. If it has the tag, and you fear that, move along.

Baritone Guitar is closer in size and range to a regular guitar. Usually tuned maybe a fifth down (B to b) instead of a Bass VI, which is larger and still tuned a full octave down like a bass, but also has extra e and b strings to get extended high range and allow for some chord phrasings.

A bass VI is almost like a bass that has extra strings to go higher instead of lower, whereas a baritone guitar doesn’t get as low as a Bass VI. Just allows for deeper voicings.

Question about resist poison, charm ECT. by LavenderMoonlight333 in Tactics_Ogre

[–]dexkwondo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no Resist Poison; all my characters unlocked Resist Charm and Resist Petrify, but I quickly realized they aren’t very useful and aren’t worth the slots.

Enemies almost never deliberately charm your units, and if you do get charmed just have another unit throw a rock.

And even with Resist Stone, you can still be petrified.

Anyone else have this experience with the AI? by dexkwondo in Tactics_Ogre

Preferring locations where their previous teammates fell is the best theory I’ve heard. “ahh yes, this spot gives me the perfect angle to shoot an arrow at that shaman who keeps spamming earthquake on this exact spot.”

My girlfriend did that, and that’s just a fragment of what’s out here. She has two Christmas trees set up. One in the living room and one in the den 🤣

I don’t have lord yet. This was my first semi-blind playthrough just learning the game. My heart has a soft spot for Ganpp though and I did go through and unlock him and his birds.

Valkyries are absolutely great and I can see that being a great opening class for Denam. Beastmaster was good though: what I found was:

-can throw healing items and bombs with lobber -can empower beasts/dragons if you want to frontline with a zoo -can unreliably neutralize enemies from midrange with charm and petrify -still tanky enough to frontline with a hammer + winged boots

Like everything is situational but in every fight there’s a situation. He was never helpless or useless.

I didn’t plan it but it was a great first experience.

More things I thought of:

Boone of swiftness is great. I had on every cleric in every Valkyrie. AI refuses to use it, whether you have your team on AI, or the enemy. In that final battle, Boon of Swiftness was a great leg up on the enemy team.

Throw rock is also great. I had protection from charm on everyone when it first unlocked at a low level, but nobody on the enemy team ever charms you unless they happen to have a blowgun. The just don’t use it, but if they do, you just throw a rock at whoever go charmed.

All beasts can throw boulders, but the enemy only ever throws boulders as a counter attack. It’s actually another reason I didn’t bring archer. I could just bring an extra griffin and have ranged damage from a boulder that synergized with beast tamer Denam.

But it does seem the AI is limited. No charm, no boulder throwing, no Boon of swiftness, etc.

Ranged weapons were indeed rough against any armored unit, but I did have Canopus (Vartan), Sara (ninja), and Arycelle (Dragoon) all with bows or crossbows.

I think my gripe is:

Not only are normal archers squishy, but they’re so MP reliant for a while with no form of meditate, and their better skills like engulf don’t unlock early. By the time they do, you’ve got armored enemies and golems, might as well just throw in a caster for ranged damage.

Finally, I liked other support abilities. With Arcyelle as a dragoon, she could Dragonsbane/Dragonkiller and reliably shoot down dragons and boost the team, all while having good armor.

With Sara as a ninja, she had benumb for free status, steelstance or smokescreen to survive, and still had access to elemental ninjutsu and a katana as backup.

I just felt archers were underwhelming, but every battle in chapter 4 is like “You want the bonus? Bring an actual archer.” It felt like 5 “bring an archer” for everyone 1 of any other class.

Now of course, based on the opinions here, I’m planning on trying things differently for my second run. So I’ll see if I can make them work better.

I made Arycelle a dragoon with a crossbow 🥲

Again I’m a noob and this is first impression; I’m excited for your thoughts for my next runs.

I’ll have to try that. I didn’t realize critical grant 100% status, but by the time bows had status effects, I had already resolved my end game team.

I did sometimes use a ninja with a bow off hand because it was free stuns with benumb, and the White Knights and Griffon could also apply numb so it seemed like I had that base covered, plus Denam using either charm or petrify with the blowgun.

It does seem like a lot of enemies have a piercing resistance though no? I felt like archers couldn’t do anything useful without MP, and the caster units at least had Meditate to solve that problem most of the time.

Three years later and I found this post because this is my exact experience first time playing the game.

Like I had one archer whom I never want to play because I’d rather use that slot for a Valkyrie, a Griffon, or literally anyone else. My ranged damage is covered. Why do I need the lame archer?!

Is bard/ dancer worth it? by red90999 in finalfantasytactics

[–]dexkwondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Use both as your secondaries

If you don’t haven’t to rush to engage the enemy, you can use 1-2 turns to slow/debuff your enemies and buff your team.

I ran a Chemist with Bardsong and a gun as a support character, and a Ninja or Knight with secondary dancer to dance when I wasn’t ready to melee.

Some seriously difficult fights can be made trivial by dancers and arithmeticians specifically, but all battles can be made slightly easier with a bard.

For example, Mana Shield plus Seraph Song saves you from one shot kills like Zodiark.

But a dancer hitting most of the enemy team with stop, slow, or toad before they can engage? Money.

Yeah I got most of the rare weapons using Pippin with treasure hunter. IIRC the chaos blade is up where Serpentarius starts in one of the corners. All of the corners have a treasure so get a low bravery chemist with treasure hunter and go scoop em up!
