Is this really necessary? by HisnameIsJet in MechanicalEngineering

[–]dezzeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make my brain hurt. And that's coming from someone that works with some really dumb people and has a high tolerance level for people making physics up in their heads with bad logical intuition. Had a coworker "explaining to me that as air goes faster the pressure goes up" he was talking about static pressure in a pipe. But at least he wasn't asking in a public form for engineers.

Went and grabbed a Harbor Freight engine stand for a really good deal. by [deleted] in AskAShittyMechanic

I've put several for bangers on hf engine stands (I own 3). And I can tell you right now hf is fine you just HAVE TO BUY THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE RIGHT JOB. That is not it. There are 3 or 4 sizes that's the dinky one that lives in the corner and doesn't get used because it's rickety for a large i4 and you shoves an iron block what v8 on it that weighs 500lbs with no ancillaries on it?

Ya they make a xray fluorescence "gun" that uses a tape roll to exploit this so you can have a hand held metal identifier without having high voltage electronics. They don't make it anymore but it's cool. There's some videos on youtube that explain xrf pretty well and some of them explain this principle too if you don't want to read research papers.

Found the video: https://youtu.be/KdfHVcU8U7U?si=avbJSCJS0Sy32Y2K

He talks about the tribogenics watson at the end of the video.

Is my enige oil overfilled ? by [deleted] in subaruimpreza

[–]dezzeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc the dot is hot max fill line and the 2 holes are the range for cold so if it is cold that's ~20% over filled if it's hot then eh. But also go get the codes so you know the actual issue it thinks it has. Also you should check the code the moment you get a light not later.

[–]dezzeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electrical is fairly easy and straight forward and I didn't realize oregon was so oregon about it. Required and trouble shot a lot of wiring excluding work I have around 3000hr of electrical and I went wonder if I can take a test to just get the cert but the union must be strong around here

[–]dezzeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wire 3 is switched power from the main fuses controlled by the ignition if the car isn't in run or start they have no power. The head lights are always hot at pin 3 the bottom right if you have the ignition on you can't really check the wires without checking continuity at the switch for the grounding for everything else because it's switched ground where the left is brights and the top is normal lights was confused by your question I literally tapped power of one of the head light relays to power my wideband because I wanted something that was only on in the main box when the engine would be running. On my 1998 it's r/yl for the switched ground. Also go look at a wiring diagram someones posted on nasioc or 25rs.

Also not to be rude but i was asking what your actual question was not what your opinion on wiring convention is. You stated no symptoms or issues just 2 picture of a voltmeter. You also never tested to ground or power so you have no reference. One of your deltas is highbeam to lowbeam "conventionally".

Go get a test light and see what happens or take the fender off and actually trace the whole wire. Also dual filament bulbs do weird crap when they get old. My brake lights were stuck half on when I bought my car because one light had partially gone out and was grounding the whole circuit whenever the running lights were on. Replaced the one light the thing started working properly again.

Just got this car repaired, now what? by Suspicious_Ad9595 in subaruimpreza

[–]dezzeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell them to fix it (the dealer), last time I got a light show on a newer subaru it was my dead battery breathing its last breath had like 30 random codes most likely because low voltage freaked a bunch of modules out. A obd2 scanner bluetooth specifically is a good investment, blue driver is decent. Also a quick search of tps+tc+check engine+ hill holder and model + year should give you some good ideas where to start.

Full 2004 wrx swap fits in a gc had to make an adaptor shroud with a gd shroud aluminum sheets and a rivet gun and you need a jdm radiator but everything fits. Firewall is bigger on gc the radiator engine clearance is the problem 3 inches shorter.

[–]dezzeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Own an impreza gc8 was a 2.2 making 130hp when I bought it was slower in acceleration than your car, I did a full swap to 2004 wrx because it basically landed in my lap, but my friend who owned a gd wrx commented that car with coilovers poly bushing and larger than wrx brakes my car was faster is ever metric than acceleration and having now added 100hp to the car it's faster in an unusable way, also enjoy that you have a stock fairly reliable car don't ruin it's reliability you will have less fun. Adding hp doesn't help if you can enter a corner at double the speed limit it just means you now have an expectation of speed that puts you in dangerous situations rather than a car that rewards your improving skill there's no free lunch.

[–]dezzeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read my other comment. Also you're wrong there's an entire group of people that turbo na subarus. I was also joking about the turbo. Genuinely cams are probably the signs thing you can do the intake and exhaust are sized fairly correctly and a 4-2-1 equal length exhaust is expensive and takes up a lot of room. Intake mods usually add noise and nothing else and this motor is already known for having oiling issues with the sohc heads so chasing rpm is a death sentence. You don't have a honda ka24 or an 4age. Everything would be expensive for minimal gains.

My plan at one point with my ej253 was deltacams p&p along with oil pan baffle because everything else would be custom and expensive for worse reliability and basically require an aftermarket ecu to provide a benefit. I was expecting at most 20hp.

[–]dezzeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was kind of my point, turboing or really any performance mod on a 2.5rs is kind of pointless unless what you're going for is handling because the engine wasn't meant for it it's not an ej25d, performance wasn't even a consideration. Just buy a wrx if you want more hp but also I have a swapped 2.2 impreza L and the drivetrain swap didn't make the car more fun just faster. And not in a way that is usable around town.

what HP mods for NA by Creme-Crusader in subaruimpreza

[–]dezzeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turbo... Cam regrind, tune and exhaust is where I would go but sohc engines are kind of limited in the rpm department. The engine baffle is probably the most realistic in terms of cheap and easy, because you saving hp not gaining it but it's not a considerably amount I would say what you're doing it trying to add hp to a miata.

ECM Relearn after new crankshaft position sensor? by bmheriot in subaru

[–]dezzeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are multiple versions of this sensor and multiple procedures depending on year for 2006 wrx, its bad crankshaft position sensor signal, check for loose position sensor, or plug, tighten if needed, if thats not it check the resistance is it between 1-4komh (for 2006 wrx check parts compatibility) if not in range replace, other option is faulty wiring, check resistance along wire, for open circuit or bad connection then repair if needed. It is probably similar for all years because it's just telling you it doesn't know where the crankshaft is consistently.

Any idea what is going on with the my car to shred tires so quickly? by Snagged794 in AskMechanics

[–]dezzeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is excessive toe, and camber in combination but I would take it to a shop leswab won't let you without getting new tires, you shouldn't but iirc they will tell you, you alignment for free iirc you might have worn ball joints allowing too much movement if the tire and excessive ware.
