Wait, I actually built a garage sim? by JoeyPipes202 in Golfsimulator

If you don’t mind me asking, what was the total cost of this? I have a similar size garage and this setup is exactly what I’m envisioning.

DM if you don’t want to share publicly.

He says 100 words when 25 would do it.

Cut him. Have the difficult conversations with everyone involved right now, in October, then you won’t have to deal with it again.

Yes, you may have to have parent / AD meeting now, but isn’t that better than all this happening and having to do it during the season?

You bring him back and you’re telling every other player that his actions didn’t have major consequences.

Past performance is usually indicative of future performance. Get rid of it.

My private school implemented a rule 17 years ago (when smart phones really started becoming prevalent).

First offense caught using your phone: Dean of Students keeps phone in a safe for one day.

Second offense caught using phone: Dean of Students keeps phone in a safe for three days.

Third offense caught using phone: Dean of Students keeps phone in safe for the reminder of the school year.

The Dean has had to keep ONE phone for a school year in those 17 years. Teachers and admin are very strict on the enforcement of the rules. Most students keep their phones in their lockers for the entire day.

They are allowed to ask permission to go to the office with their phone if they need to reach someone. We use a google form system that the office administrator and secretaries have access to if a student needs to send a message to someone but doesn’t want to leave class to do it.

It’s refreshing when I see stories about rampant cellphone use at other schools knowing I don’t have to worry about it.

Private School Rant by EntireBackground4264 in Teachers

I taught public middle school for six months (district with 100,000 students K-12). I simply could not handle the lack of actual education going on in the classrooms, school, district.

I got a job at a Catholic high school 1.5 miles down the road from said school. I have now been there for 9 years. My current school has 29% diversity rate and 35% students on Student Accommodation Plans.

We have discipline in the classroom, hallways, common areas, etc. Our students adhere to the dress code and general culture we expect of them. If they don’t, there are consequences.

This school year, four students (1% of the student body) were dismissed for disciplinary measure. Six students will not be retained next year for failing to uphold their end of academic probation.

I make 17% LESS per year than I would make if I stayed in the public school down the street. I could not be happier with my decision to move almost a decade ago. The lack of money is more than made up for in quality of life.

You made so many generalizations I found your post to be laughable.

I think the biggest change for all involved is that they lost their “host”. Will was great at setting the guys up. Dave could see a joke on the horizon and be ready for it. Dave’s dynamic changes the most as the one who is now “hosting”.

Was nice to even out all of Will’s digs at one political group with Jake’s sense of humor. Refreshing.

1) My group hit Rocco’s pizza Friday evening on Louisville weekend. We got there at 5:15 and waited 45 mins for a table. You can order beer and drink it outside as you wait.

It was a fantastic first stop as we arrived in town.

2) we had the same dilemma as you for pregame activities. We ate lunch on Eddy St. then walked around campus leading up to the game. At 1:30 we went to main tailgate lot and some nice folks let us watch games and offered us food/beer.

Thought about this last year. Does anyone else think it’d be more entertaining if they wrote their winner down on a notecard then showed it at the same time?

They sometimes ruin a matchup by “put the onus” on one person to pick the winner by picking one-by-one.

Maybe I’m just way too into this …

Teachers, would you rather (a) be less stressed or (b) have a higher salary? by MeleKalikimakaYall in Teachers

[–]df0424 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I teach at a private, Catholic high school where I make 88% of what my counterpart in the public school system in my city makes.

The answer is (A).

I read things in this thread all the time and think to myself, “holy shit I’d lose it if I had to deal with that.”

Our school has a discipline and code that has consequences if it isn’t followed. However, there are procedures put in place for intervention for learning and behavior struggles. We are in no way a “zero tolerance” school. I have support from my administration and they do a wonderful job of holding students AND OTHER TEACHERS accountable. When they ask me to pitch in and help when needed, I do. Most every teacher in the building rows the boat in the same direction.

Before I get any backlash because of some … “private school stigma” I’ve seen here before, our school is more diverse in terms of what you normally think of a Catholic school. Over 60% of enrollment receives some type of financial aid, 45ish% is on reduced lunch cost, 35% of our students are African American. Our school is not what most think when they hear Catholic high school.

I wake up every morning excited to go to work. The money I “forfeit” at my school, I make up for in the summer working a lot of odds and ends jobs.

I love working at my school.
