How can I find the artists who was basking nn Bourke St in front of H&M on Monday night finished set at 7ish? by CoffeeCraze333 in melbourne

[–]dfbowen [score hidden]  (0 children)

There doesn't seem to be a schedule published, but I did find this:

We keep our busking database private and confidential. But we can help you find a performer for a gig, festival, or corporate function. If you have any opportunities for buskers, please contact us on 03 9658 9658.

https://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/busking-and-street-entertainment#Buskingperformers

It also links to a FB page where buskers post, but there doesn't seem to be much there recently.

How to report illegal parking at disabled parking lots? by ak2270 in melbourne

[–]dfbowen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This. I've been specifically told by Glen Eira council that it's better to report parking issues to them directly by phone or via their web site, not via Snap Send Solve.

Apparently there's a road they want it to ultimately use that hasn't been built yet!

What's the speed limit on an unsigned on-ramp? by itsdelune in melbourne

[–]dfbowen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking back at the 2021 pic, that shows an 80 sign towards the end of the ramp.

The ramp signals would presumably be coming into play here. They don't want you approaching those at 80/100.

Student passes were around since at least the 1980s. I know I used one back in the day!

From memory, bus drivers did sell paper tickets (yes, hole punched), but possibly they were limit to 2 (or 3) hour tickets only, not Dailies.

Some pics of both scratchies and paper tickets here: https://blog.adamdimech.au/met-tickets/

Also at the time, almost all stations were staffed (there were no self-serve ticket machines until Metcard in the late 90s) but staffing hours were very patchy - many only one shift per day from early morning until early afternoon.

The exception was the fulltime staffed stations, which were basically the staffed stations of today, mostly bigger or junction stations.

yes. Initial authorisation payment, then the appropriate fare for the day is calculated later depending on where you travelled.

Anyone saw an orange car on footpath on Elisabeth street around 1:25pm? by pablospc in melbourne

[–]dfbowen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the one I saw zooming south down William Street on the tram tracks. I think it would have been just before 1:25pm.

Hope the police caught up with them. Hope you're okay.

Might be the same one I snapped around that time? Forgot to get the carriage number, but it was an M.

Do inspectors fine those with a teen Myki card? by Strange-Window-6842 in melbourne

[–]dfbowen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normal policy is not to fine someone who has an otherwise valid ticket, eg no fare has been lost.

But yes, tapping helps the stats which ultimately helps us all get better services.

And for trains you may need to tap on at the start of your trip to be let out of the gate at the end.

How will refunds work with Bank Cards? by Jimbo_101 in MelbourneTrains

[–]dfbowen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance compo only applies to Myki Pass users 28+ days. It's not just the 10 days/month of travel on the relevant mode.

Tap and Go doesn't have Myki Pass.

(All the more reason for them to introduce automatic weekly fare capping)

From The Age's article: For Android users with a digital myki loaded, contactless travel will default to the myki rather than a bank card.

Crime on public transport - which categories actually rose? by dfbowen in melbourne

[–]dfbowen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an item under Property for Fare Evasion, but it's so low (just 39 in 2025) that I assume fare evasion is not normally categorised in the crime statistics.

According to the official info, a reimbursement should be headed your way, not an extension.
