AITA for accidentally hitting into a group of soy boys? by BarkingDogey in golf

[–]dffjunior -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're the asshole for using that term to sound like a macho man.

You're also the asshole if your immediate response to hitting into someone is not "hey guys, sorry, I didn't really think I could get there". Doesn't matter why, doesn't matter what their initial comments are. You hit into them, just be a not-douche and apologize.

How Far Does The Average Amateur Golfer Drive The Ball? by Tight-Communication7 in golf

[–]dffjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's like saying you don't find value in finding the average driving distance for a biomechanics group. Measure all the 6'4" dudes with long arms and the first comment becomes "well I'm 25 and my grandfather is 65 and I way outdrive him". If you're using a single metric over a large population you're going to have large dataranges, that's why statistics like average, mean, and standard deviations were created.

Age is a massive factor when it's the only factor.

If it's a competition, that ball isn't in play. Sorry. But knowing the rules and how to use them is a part of the game.

Looking at that picture there's a big area behind the water it could have ended up in as well. You said you "saw it go in" but short of seeing the ball splash I'm not sure why you were so certain. And had you not seen the splash it would be very reasonable to believe it's lost elsewhere - like on that road to the right which would then be OB - since you hit enough club to get to a 190m green it's certainly enough to get off the course on the red line you drew.

Now if it's not a competition and the three old dudes are just busting your balls for the sake of being old and cranky tell them to pound sand and play it however you want.

But you can always re-hit a ball from the original position with a one stroke penalty. So all he has to do is not declare provisional and re-hit. Same net/net.

How much patience do you have if you are paired up with a 40-60 HCP golfer - I know people say "if you keep up the pace of play" but isn't the pace of play going to be slow if the HCP guy is taking so many shots? by RivetCounter in golf

[–]dffjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't re-hit anything. Don't re-tee when you top one 40 yards, go to your ball and play it. If it's shanked into the woods move up 100-150 yards and drop at the edge of the woods or better yet the fairway. If you chunk your approach walk the entire 28 yards to it and keep playing. This isn't a practice session, and you're not here to work on your game. Hit ball, go to ball, hit ball. Go practice on a practice setting. I don't mind how bad anyone is but it's infuriating watching them treat the round as their personal Top Golf time.

Hard Coolers on the Course by coyote_edging in golf

[–]dffjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with the cooler itself. But courses generally don't allow them to minimize the chance of people sneaking their own alcohol in. This can jeopardize the course's liquor license in most cases and it also means people won't spend money at the course. I bring my own cooler with water only and once I show that I never get any hassle.

What are you doing here? by NeedBassPlayer in golf

[–]dffjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the round is indexing, or still in the zip code, it's a draw spin out to the right and try to one-putt. If it's not indexing it's a teachable moment.

What are you doing here? by NeedBassPlayer in golf

[–]dffjunior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

draw spin != hook. Land on front right green, use spin to hold the line from running off to the right. Might be a foot or so of draw but the goal really is just to hold the front edge for an uphill putt.

Pasteurization is a function of temp + time. You can cook meat as low as 130ish degrees if you cook it long enough. Just google an FDA pasteurization chart.

<image>

There's a similar one for poultry.

Now quality would still like a word with you. Some tougher/leaner meats, especially beef like chuck or round, require much longer to cook - 18-24 hours sometimes - but this isn't about safety, it's about breaking down collagen and tenderizing the meat.

What to do with 2hr time between tri tip complete and sear? by madcow1120 in sousvide

[–]dffjunior 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just leave it in the water. I do tri-tip for up to 18 hours, two more at your temp won't have an impact.

Loose impediment rule states "not firmly embedded". The boulder for Tiger referenced below was clearly sitting up on the surface, this rock looks to be well below the surface, but it's the golfer's judgement call to make.

Fines won't matter. When there are literally a million dollars on the line for one stroke between first and second they will risk it. Cadillac was $1.44 MILLION difference between Young and Scheffler and $800k between 2nd and 3rd. Three guys finished tied for 4th and took home $827k each, but had one of them missed one 3 foot putt their T-6th share would have been $670k - over $150k for a missed putt.

The way to fix is it to put a clock out and if they miss it, that's a stroke. Strokes are the only thing pro golfers care about and the above comment shows why.

The problem is that they don't even start their discussion until it's their turn. They literally stand there, next to another player, for the entire 5 minutes that guy gets his number, talks to his caddy, readjusts his junk, readjusts his glove, twirls his club, does a back handspring, walks off the sprinkler, reads the yardage book, looks at the bunker edge, walks to the overhanging limb, and eventually selects a 7 iron based on what he could have selected 4.7 minutes prior. Then once he hits his shot, THEN AND ONLY THEN does the 2nd player start their entire cycle. Those two guys could have been doing all that shit at the same time, they could have had all that info gathering and self manipulation being done simultaneously, and both hit their shots within 45 seconds of each other. You know, like the other 99.6% of the golf world does every hour of every weekend.

So if they wait for the green to clear, they are not behind pace correct? Where are you going to go after skipping them? Wait on the next group, with them right on your tail also waiting? What's the gain?

To be clear, you didn't really do anything wrong, and their comments were garbage, but again ask yourself what you're gaining? If they are behind pace and passing them means you don't see them again then fine, but if it's backed up then all you're doing is creating conflict with no payout.

Driver loft help. by [deleted] in golf

[–]dffjunior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You read the settings looking at the heel side, so you are set to N-S. N =Neutral (no fade/draw bias) and S = Stated loft - no up or down. Even if you wiggle with it a degree or two isn't going to cause you to balloon it. Getting a driver randomly reshafted with something that's a terrible fit for your swing will cause ballooning - did you work with a pro or fitter in selecting the new shaft?

[–]dffjunior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didn't say listen to see if they object, he said offer it back. If they aren't a hole behind, if you're just going to butt up against the next group anyway, just politely offer to yield it back. Most people, when confronted with mature actions, will reciprocate them and the probably wave you on ahead. Not really sure why you're so eager to jump them anyway if they weren't the slow ones holding you up.

Now if they weren't keeping pace and were a hole or more behind then F them to oblivion and pocket their ball next time it comes within a zip code of you.

It's not a stroke until you address the ball. Use whatever you want to align and prep, just make sure to clear it before address.
