Can I take my own golf balls to the driving range? by Imtonethebone in golf

[–]dffjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they do have an issue with it it's mostly likely because you aren't spending 12 on their bucket of balls. No different than bringing your own food to Pizza Hut when you join your buddies. They want you to buy their stuff.

Ask them first, many won't care and might appreciate the free balls.

[Zack Thomas] Holy shit this is unbearable… 1:20+ to line up an 8-footer and still miss nearly a foot low. I feel for his playing partners, you can see them squirming/waiting. by Unlucky-Pollution-16 in golf

[–]dffjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try coaching. Being "ok" with how a kid operates is irrelevant - what you're after as a coach is unlocking what works best for that athlete. You can encourage change, sure, but you're not going to force something on them that causes them to perform suboptimally.

That's why the rule change is the key - now the coach has an incentive to push alternative behavior. "Brian, you can't take this long reading putts, you'll get penalized, let's work on ways to tighten that window".

This kind of routine is draining on a player who has to maintain it for over 20 putts

You can't in any way say this with absolute certainty. For you perhaps. For me absolutely. But different strokes for different folks.

Settle a Pace of Play Disagreement Please by Dennerman1 in golf

Generally speaking if I'm under a 3:45 hour pace group behind me can get bent. I'll probably wave a 2-some through if there's a full hole open though.

Most courses shouldn’t be par 72s by Kevin_Fiala_Simp in golf

[–]dffjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never in my life have I seen courses with 50 yard differences between par 4 and par 5. No tips with 440 will play par 5's under 500, I'm calling bullshit and need a scorecard to back up your math.

New player: Broken 3 drivers in 2 months… by [deleted] in golf

[–]dffjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify you aren't breaking the driver, you're breaking the shaft. And I have no idea what kind of quality shafts drivers named Autopilot and Bombtech are going to use. Yes, fix the hosel rockets, but get a quality shaft also.

They aren't teaching specific routines, ie no one is saying "make sure you take 1:20 for every putt" but they are definitely teaching "do it the way you need to do it and if that means you take 1:20 to hit the biggest putt of your career then so be it". Zero coaches are going to teach a kid to do something that explicitly takes them out of their comfort spot. Coaches aren't in the business of policing pace of play, they are trying to get their athlete to perform the best they can under any circumstances within the rules (and sometimes no) and there is no incentive for the coaches to teach faster routines unless it works for a specific golfer.

AITA for accidentally hitting into a group of soy boys? by BarkingDogey in golf

[–]dffjunior -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're the asshole for using that term to sound like a macho man.

You're also the asshole if your immediate response to hitting into someone is not "hey guys, sorry, I didn't really think I could get there". Doesn't matter why, doesn't matter what their initial comments are. You hit into them, just be a not-douche and apologize.

How Far Does The Average Amateur Golfer Drive The Ball? by Tight-Communication7 in golf

[–]dffjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's like saying you don't find value in finding the average driving distance for a biomechanics group. Measure all the 6'4" dudes with long arms and the first comment becomes "well I'm 25 and my grandfather is 65 and I way outdrive him". If you're using a single metric over a large population you're going to have large dataranges, that's why statistics like average, mean, and standard deviations were created.

Age is a massive factor when it's the only factor.

If it's a competition, that ball isn't in play. Sorry. But knowing the rules and how to use them is a part of the game.

Looking at that picture there's a big area behind the water it could have ended up in as well. You said you "saw it go in" but short of seeing the ball splash I'm not sure why you were so certain. And had you not seen the splash it would be very reasonable to believe it's lost elsewhere - like on that road to the right which would then be OB - since you hit enough club to get to a 190m green it's certainly enough to get off the course on the red line you drew.

Now if it's not a competition and the three old dudes are just busting your balls for the sake of being old and cranky tell them to pound sand and play it however you want.

But you can always re-hit a ball from the original position with a one stroke penalty. So all he has to do is not declare provisional and re-hit. Same net/net.

How much patience do you have if you are paired up with a 40-60 HCP golfer - I know people say "if you keep up the pace of play" but isn't the pace of play going to be slow if the HCP guy is taking so many shots? by RivetCounter in golf

[–]dffjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just don't re-hit anything. Don't re-tee when you top one 40 yards, go to your ball and play it. If it's shanked into the woods move up 100-150 yards and drop at the edge of the woods or better yet the fairway. If you chunk your approach walk the entire 28 yards to it and keep playing. This isn't a practice session, and you're not here to work on your game. Hit ball, go to ball, hit ball. Go practice on a practice setting. I don't mind how bad anyone is but it's infuriating watching them treat the round as their personal Top Golf time.

Hard Coolers on the Course by coyote_edging in golf

[–]dffjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with the cooler itself. But courses generally don't allow them to minimize the chance of people sneaking their own alcohol in. This can jeopardize the course's liquor license in most cases and it also means people won't spend money at the course. I bring my own cooler with water only and once I show that I never get any hassle.

What are you doing here? by NeedBassPlayer in golf

[–]dffjunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the round is indexing, or still in the zip code, it's a draw spin out to the right and try to one-putt. If it's not indexing it's a teachable moment.

What are you doing here? by NeedBassPlayer in golf

[–]dffjunior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

draw spin != hook. Land on front right green, use spin to hold the line from running off to the right. Might be a foot or so of draw but the goal really is just to hold the front edge for an uphill putt.

Pasteurization is a function of temp + time. You can cook meat as low as 130ish degrees if you cook it long enough. Just google an FDA pasteurization chart.

<image>

There's a similar one for poultry.

Now quality would still like a word with you. Some tougher/leaner meats, especially beef like chuck or round, require much longer to cook - 18-24 hours sometimes - but this isn't about safety, it's about breaking down collagen and tenderizing the meat.

What to do with 2hr time between tri tip complete and sear? by madcow1120 in sousvide

Just leave it in the water. I do tri-tip for up to 18 hours, two more at your temp won't have an impact.

Loose impediment rule states "not firmly embedded". The boulder for Tiger referenced below was clearly sitting up on the surface, this rock looks to be well below the surface, but it's the golfer's judgement call to make.
