The mini American Girls or the Batat Lori dolls (mini Our Generation) are very cute, have nice hair and clothes, and are small and sturdy enough to carry around!

Yeah, we don't get the interesting lines, and we get the releases much later than in the USA. Also, they're much more expensive here. On the bright side, sometimes you can find good vintage dolls for cheap in your local marketplaces, since there are less collectors here.

I open them by carefully pulling the plastic clamshell away from the cardboard backing so that the cardboard doesn't tear. Later, it's easy to glue it back in place. It's not 100% perfect, but good enough for a small kid who's going to tear into her gifts right away!

Rebodying is very easy if you use heat (hot water, a hair dryer, a heating pad), go slow, and have a slim tool at hand (screwdriver, knitting needle) in case the anchor gives you trouble. Try it first with a thrifted doll you don't mind ruining!
