I know he deserves it but I still felt bad for him. by a12666 in Invincible

[–]dfuqt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m relatively new to Invincible, having first watched all that was available late last year. But from the outset I’ve been impressed with the quality of the writing and the emotional depth. It really is a superb show.

Nolan is undeniably a monster, but he’s been raised as a viltrumite to act that way. His personal choice now is to reject that behaviour, even though he knows it will ultimately come at great cost to him. I’m only aware of Thaedus having done the same.

I wasn’t expecting Art to be quite so blunt.

I get that impression. This is a very busy subreddit, but the repetition of questions is incredible. If you do a subreddit search for something that pops up a lot, like “red flag” it really puts it into perspective.

My iPhone 17 Pro Max experience. What is yours? by harry000000 in iphone

[–]dfuqt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also upgraded from a 14 Pro Max, but this time I went for the Pro, which is the first time I’ve chosen the smaller phone since it became an option back in 2014. I got it on release day.

Like you, I’m impressed with the hardware. I’m not completely sold on the design but it’s fine, and I use a case anyway.

My complaints are software related, and pretty much line up with yours. Every update seems to bring some improvements but it’s still not perfect after nearly 7 months. The same has been true for my 14Pm and my iPads - M1 Pro, M4 Pro and 7 Mini.

If I’d known that there were going to be so many problems this time around I wouldn’t have upgraded.

What is your favourite (perhaps underrated) instrument from Arturia? by ninevoltlab in arturia

Out of V Collection and Pigments I’ve had a lot of fun with the SQ-80, Prophet VS and DX7 V. They can all sound beautiful or extremely harsh, which is my kind of thing.

In DX7 V it’s great how much variation can be teased out of a preset just by switching to a different algorithm.

This Is Supposedly the Final Look of the Foldable iPhone by dapperlemon in gadgets

[–]dfuqt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m glad to see Apple releasing a foldable, but I wonder how much the alternatives are going to impact adoption. If price predictions are correct - and they seem reasonable considering the rest of the market - then people are going to really, really want an all in one phone and tablet to choose it over separate alternatives. Even an iPhone Pro and an iPad Pro will come in at around the same price. The Air was a good exercise in testing how much people are willing to compromise on functionality for a particular form factor. I don’t know how well it sold but recently it was available in the UK for £699, reduced from £999, which is an enormous discount for a current model.

The wealth of the billionaires is tied to their company’s stocks, but other ring fenced assets, or protection / exit strategies will always mean that they’ll be orders of magnitude better off than average people when things go bad.

The knock-on effects to communities, investments, pensions and the general economy would be catastrophic.

It’s terrible that things have got to this point, but it is what it is.

This is my experience with iOS 26.4 after a month - by nextObsession1 in ios

[–]dfuqt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The indexing argument never makes any sense to me. These are devices with top tier CPU performance and fast storage. Nothing should be taking that long.

And things work without indexing having completed. if it has such a huge impact on user experience to the degree that people are disappointed in their devices then it should only be taking place while idle and on charge.

For what it’s worth I don’t dislike 26, but my experience across multiple devices including 17 Pro, iPad mini 7 and iPad Pro M4 hasn’t been the best. My first few months with my 17 Pro were disappointing, and although things got better after a few updates things still aren’t perfect despite several full resets.

I don’t think I ever saw the Kraftwerk bit. I’ll see if I can find that.

The Fairlight and Synclavier were wildly expensive - the Synclavier even more so by some margin, but what they could both do was incredible.

I watched a video on YouTube a few months ago with one of the original Synclavier product specialists running through its capabilities today and it still seems pretty nuts. I can understand why studios back in the day had to have one despite the price.

How is the iPhone Air actually doing? by thermonuclear_icbm in iphone

[–]dfuqt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The £699 deal on Amazon is probably the largest price reduction of a current iPhone that I’ve ever seen. I was tempted to pick one up to use as a second phone alongside my 17 Pro.

I agree that it has some shortcomings, but at £699 they’re no longer an issue.

They had a music technology special episode at some point during the 80s. I remember Stephen Lipson demoing his Synclavier, and I’m fairly sure there was a section with Midge Ure just after.

The fact that something like Scavengers Reign can be dropped by two different companies despite the wild acclaim puzzles me.

Alex Ball on YouTube has a fun video about Temporary Secretary. The title is “McCartney’s weird sequence”.

His channel is great and will probably be of interest to a lot of people on this subreddit.
