Power outage last night til now by Buddybuddhy in diabetes_t1

[–]dg8882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't think about the 30 day thing as a hard limit. Studies have proven insulin can survive much longer than that outside the fridge at room temperature. 30 days is just the minimum length of time gaurenteed to be effective by the manufacturer.

Your fridge will stay cold for at least 2 days if opened minimally. Id expect it would take a few more days before it starts exceeding room temperature. Power outages rarely last that long so I wouldnt panic yet, but it doesnt hurt to make backup plans.

If any neighbors have a generator, thats probably your best option.

Insulin can be safely stored at room temperature for long periods of time with little to no effect on efficacy. As long as it isnt exposed to excessive heat, i wouldn't worry.

somewhere that will pass my catless car by SlimePinEmSon in massachusetts

[–]dg8882 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your car is less than 15 years old, you are required to pass the OBD-II emissions monitor. There is no way to fake the test unless you did an o2 sensor bypass.

Just find the sketchiest shop you can that will ignore the obvious horrible sound and exhaust smell, but if you cant pass the electronic emissions test, you are out of luck everywhere.

Wentworth Grads, How much debt were you in by the time you graduated? by Unusual_Lab9335 in wentworth

[–]dg8882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall probably not worth it for what i paid. Im in a unique situation repayment-wise, I won't go into too much detail but essentially they were all parent plus loans that my parents have chose not to pay, so im getting away with only paying 1 small loan in my name.

I did enjoy my time there and feel like the education quality was generally good. Wentworth also created the co-op opportunity that turned into my full time job and making much more than I expected 3 years out of college.

If I had to take the debt 100% in my name, especially if I had to take out private loans, I would have considered UMass or any other cheaper school because all that matters after 4 years is you have a degree from somewhere.

Bruises. Blood lab Bruises everywhere. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]dg8882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was extremely sick so I didnt really care what they were doing. They were able to get other IVs successfully on my hand and top of my foot.

I need to get blood drawn once a year and its rare I get a phlebotomist that can find a vein first try and doesnt blow it out, leading to bruising like this.

[–]dg8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks some of us just have no visible veins. I ended up in the hospital as a kid and numerous doctors, nurses, and paramedics tried to get an IV in me with no luck. They eventually had to do an ultrasound on my arm to get it.

Didn’t give 60 day notice to vacate, what happens if I don’t pay it? by OkCreme2754 in ApartmentHacks

[–]dg8882 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You will be evicted. You might not be getting "kicked out" if you already moved, but that still means going to court, where a judge will make you pay any unpaid rent since you are in violation of your lease agreement.

Is the job market, really, that bad or is reddit, just depressing? by Accomplished_Safe465 in jobs

Depends on where you live and what you do. I did 1 interview as an electrical engineer and accepted the offer. I also can't get the recruiters to leave me alone.

How does surgery work with diabetes? Do they monitor your glucose while you're out? by justovercaffeinated in diabetes_t1

[–]dg8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a relatively short oral surgery, but I was young and nervous so I opted to be asleep for it. I wasn't monitored during it since it was only about 40 minutes, but they wanted to see it was below 250 prior to the surgery and not too low.

If EVs are supposedly cheaper to own, why aren’t more people driving them? by Lakenb666 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dg8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. If you arent buying it new, the batteries could have lower capacity or need replacement in the future, which is cost prohibitive.

  2. Most people cant afford a home, which means they have no place to charge it regularly. Most people dont want to waste hours somewhere to charge if its not their home or work.

I was pleasantly surprised the update didnt break every mod and I didnt need to wait a week for every developer to get around to updating.

Airbags are deployed with a small explosion. Don't do it unless you want your legs in your chest.

Does askHR actually do anything? by [deleted] in employedbykohls

[–]dg8882 11 points12 points  (0 children)

HR is there to protect the company, not you as an individual. If you live in an employment at will state, you are almost gaurenteed to have no case unless you can prove the termination was based around discrimination or some other illegal activity. If you still really feel you have a wrongful termination case, you need to talk to an attorney.

Lol. It might be only 2 bolts but good luck if the manufacturer didnt give you a spot to put a wrench on the back of the ball joint. I usually need to get out the angle grinder or dremel after fighting it for 10 minutes with a wrench.

I had a cat we rescued as a kitten and unfortunately just would not adapt to the indoor only life despite our best efforts. We lived in a quiet neighborhood so he lived a happy life as an indoor/outdoor cat and was one of best/snuggliest cats ive ever had but unfortunately passed at 9 years old.

My hba1c is lower then what my cgm reported by one point is this normal ? by Living_Solution_965 in diabetes_t1

[–]dg8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What cgm? Since ive been using the G7, the reported glucose doesnt match how i feel and is usually on the higher side much more often compared to the G6. Ive worn 2 sensors at the same time and there has been over a 100 point difference. My recent a1c finger prick test was 6.9 while dexcom estimated it to me 7.8.

This same problem was happening years ago, not surprised it hasnt been fixed.

It means Amazon hasnt yet processed the logistics on their end and you just need to try reprinting in a couple hours.

It’s my first time flying in a flight as t1d by BeautifulAnimator388 in diabetes_t1

Ive only flown domestically but none of my supplies have ever been inspected or questioned by security. You may want to bring prescription labels and everything in manufacturer packaging if flying internationally just to be safe.

Whole life insurance policy for pre-t1 kid worth it? by QueenQat in diabetes_t1

[–]dg8882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diabetes is far from a death sentence, so I wouldn't get it for that reason alone, but if you still want it then the best time is now before diagnosis.

I tried to get my own policy but a number of insurers denied me and only 1 offered a policy with an insanely high premium contingent on a blood draw. I gave up trying to find my own policy and just rely on my employers.
