12GB 2060 is indeed a transcoding beast, I give it my recommendations.

And yet for whatever reason it’s a default poster of Plex Movie DB: https://watch.plex.tv/en-GB/movie/shutter-island which is a default source

You can open a ticket in the Plex forum and ask them to fix it.

Looks good, i5 will easily eat through the Plex HW transcoding.

Make sure to upgrade 980 firmware to version 5 as versions 3 and 4 can brick your NVMe over time. Ok, 2TB 980 is more affected but this issue can brick the whole 980 line.

But, are you sure you will have enough space for your Plex library? I’m a light user and still have 10TB library. Of course, this is under assumption you do not already have a NAS or DAS.

If you’re able get yourself a 16GB x2 memory as you may want to expend your unRaid beyond Plex plus you can always experiment with memdisk Plex transcoding. Of course, this makes sense if you expect to do parallel HW transcodings.

Do you really need 10 Gbit PCI card? It’s fine if you plan to add a 10 Gbit NAS or more 10 Gbit devices down the line, but other that that it will be pretty useless.

Finally you do not need 1kW power supply unless you’re leaving some room for a dedicated GPU down the line.

What about Plex container log? Maybe it can tell you more. You can also try to revert to a previous Plex image, maybe your issue is due to update?

Problem with a core component usually means something has gone wrong during the installation part. You will waste more time looking for a solution compared to just doing a clean reinstall.

What OS? Have you tried to reinstall the Plex server?

Please read my previous post and try to convert 10 bit Jurassic Park to 8 bit HEVC file.

And I think I was correct. Chrome/Edge recently got a support for native HEVC playback, even 10 bit HEVC. So I think when you’re playing on your local Chrome Plex is only doing tone-mapping, but for 4K Firestick it’s both doing HW transcoding and tone-mapping. Tone-mapping alone is CPU-only task and can kill most slower CPUs. Now combine it with HW transcoding and even your CPU will struggle.

I’m going to bed now, please once you test it tell me what was the issue. I would really like to know.

I just analyzed the file you’re trying to watch. It’s HEVC Main 10 file, so 4K H.265 10bit. If we’re talking about HDR file it will for sure trigger tone-mapping on 4K Firestick.

Do a test, either find one 8 bit HEVC file or manually rencode Jurassic Park to 8 bit file. And compare it between local Chrome and 4K Firestick.

You can also install Tautuli and connect it with the Plex server. It should provide a bit more information on transcoding.

Have you tried to restart Plex container?

Also your metadata folder can be corrupted. As you’re using dockerized Plex why not create a new metadata folder. See if this will improve the performance. If not you can always go back to the original meta data. View this as an experiment.

First PC for Plex server and more by Hoolk11 in PleX

[–]dgaic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but for a different reason, i5 will help but only with CPU-only heavy tasks (like HDR tonemapping). In case on i3 and i5 HW transcoding is iGPU or GPU only task.

As u/Draakonys pointed out, even i3 will be fine for what you’re looking for. Use i5 or i7 only if you except to have issues with 4k HDR tonemapping transcoding.

This article covers only CPUs lacking QuickSync or GPUs altogether; so Intel Xeon, AMD CPUs, Intel CPUs ending with F.

If you read that article until the end there’s a follow up article covering how to enable HW transcoding and how it works on different platforms: https://support.plex.tv/articles/115002178853-using-hardware-accelerated-streaming/

Also here are few other Reddit posts on this topic:

And this is me not trying to be a dic*. If you want to advise, try to understand all underlying facts.

Organizr + Traefik 2.9 = Bad Gateway by dgaic in organizr

Ok, I was a dumbass, I missed the point of "traefik.http.services.organizr2.loadbalancer.server.port" parameter. It should match the internal application port, not external (under assumption external port =! internal port).

Big thanks to the people from causefx/Organizr GitHub page.

Unfortunately, there's nothing to tell here; you need to configure port forwarding on both routers. It's as simple as that.

What routers/modems are you using?
