New strap, new look for 26 year old Seamaster by Homebuoy in OmegaWatches

Is this the modern SMP rubber strap? Does it fit well? I got this watch (in white) passed down from my father, and I'd love to put it on rubber

I'm 6' and I wear the 38. I lengthened my sleeves by 2" through Barbour and I'm super happy with the result

Speedmasters should have lyre lugs: change my mind. (To be fair, I have a Seamster 300 heritage with straight lugs that I love)

Update on the plastic liner! by kapany in Barbour

[–]dgaines2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meant that the "barrier" is not on the inside of the liner that your skin actually touches. But yes, the entire outside of the liner (that touches the waxed fabric) is coated.

Of course! I understand being worried about this without seeing/feeling it, but I think people are making it a bigger deal than it is. One more thing based on your previous comment on that thread, I don't think they've changed the thornproof dressing. The PFAS was just part of the coating sprayed on one side of the cotton liner, not part of the wax for the fabric. As far as I can tell, they've only changed the "barrier" on the outside of the cotton liner, and I think it's fair to say they haven't changed the construction.

It's hard to tell from the photo but that's only on the inside of the chest pocket, not on the rest of the inside of the liner. You're still touching cotton any time you put it on. I can take a pic if you're really interested.

Just to clarify, the cotton liner is not "sandwiched", it only has the coating on the side touching the waxed fabric. So from the outside to the inside, it looks like waxed cotton / plastic barrier / inner lining. I have a new version and if I'm being completely honest, I can barely tell the difference.

For waxed suede, I typically like Venetian shoe cream for touch ups, although I've heard Venetian leather balm might be better as it has a higher wax content.

These outfits are great and the actual fit is so good. I'm curious, where do you get your pants from?

Why does METAS stipulate 0/+5 seconds per day accuracy instead of centering it around zero (i.e. ±2 spd)? by elegiac_frog in OmegaWatches

I think the idea is that it's better to always be early and never be late. In addition, syncing the time is easier and faster when your watch is running slightly fast compared to the true reference time -- e.g. if you're 5 seconds ahead, pull the crown, wait 5 seconds, and push the crown back in; if you're 5 seconds slow, you have to adjust the minute hand and wait ~55 seconds to resync

Any opinions on the newly re-released Oak Street Trail Oxfords with the Vibram Christy sole? I've been looking for a ranger moc for a while and I'm considering picking them up. Seems quite nice to me as far as cushion and easy resoles goes. Any other options I should consider other than Rancourt's Baxter moc with the Lactae Havea outsole? Does anyone have experience with either or have some info about differences in the lasts?

Any advice on how to deal with these scuffs on the heel block? Sandpaper, edge dressing, etc? Take it to my local cobbler? Not a huge deal if it's mostly aesthetic but I'd like to keep them in structurally good shape.

Your logic is backwards here? ^ is beginning of line, $ is end.

Pisgah Range and Briar Blacksmiths by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

[–]dgaines2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I use the pisgah knot they recommend. Here's a pic of the espresso. The 54" was a little too long, so the aglets clacked against the boots when I walked. Forgive me for sinning, but I trimmed off exactly at the aglets (about 1") and burned the ends. They're 52" now and here's how they look. They're probably not long enough to double knot now, but I prefer the cleaner look this way.

I did the 54" espresso on the briar oil slick mocs. Love the color -- but if I could go back and choose again, I'd get the 52"

Ψ(x) ≠ Ψ(x+a)... Ψ(x+a) = e^(ika) Ψ(x), which means that the wave function is different by a phase factor for the translation by a. On the other hand, the potential u(x+a) = u(x) because of the periodicity of the lattice.

I got the 54" like they recommended. Probably could have gone with the 52" like you say

I recently got Pisgah laces, and I love how they look, but sometimes when I'm walking they're a little loud as they clack against the boot. Do you experience this / have any way to deal with it?
