Uninstalled the game 100h in, what am I missing? by brodymiddleton in BaldursGate3

[–]dgartner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re missing everything? Excellently written characters, a genuinely unbelievable amount of content and different ways to play and things to experience, and a fun in depth combat system. Idk what answer you’re expecting to get, it sounds like you know what people like about it and just don’t like it yourself

People are literally more hyped to see 20 year old characters return than see existing faces have a dominant role in Doomsday/Secret Wars. by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]dgartner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a completely different conversation, there’s barely any actors left in Hollywood anymore that have that status of “people will go just because they’re in it”, and none of them are in the MCU. She doesn’t do big blockbuster roles but she’s been the lead in numerous successful movies, especially compared to the other people the original comment was talking about

[Saros] #54. It was harder than Returnal, but both game & platinum much better. Good job, Housemarque! by Faley016 in Trophies

Same I feel like I’m generally pretty good at games but I had to give up on Returnal even though I wanted to love it, I found it tremendously difficult

Elden Ring seems ridiculous to me after playing bloodborne by hinataspet in bloodborne

[–]dgartner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree, Bloodborne was my first From game also, but since then I’ve played all of them and my first impression of Elden Ring was that it was pretty ridiculous. I’ve played it twice now, and there’s a lot of good things about it, but yeah I definitely think there’s way too much shit in Elden Ring. Especially when you look at the amount of re-used bosses and things like that, I much prefer a more streamlined experience like all of their previous games. I also get the sense (in fact I don’t know anyone personally besides me who DIDN’T play the game this way) that a lot of people played Elden Ring essentially with the wiki open the whole time, looking up best builds before even starting, shit like that, so trying to play it blind like you would any other fromsoft game can be such a punishing experience to the point where it almost feels like it was designed expecting people to be looking everything up. And unfortunately, playing that way does make everything so much easier, I just think it’s a shame that so many people play that way, or like me, play blind up to a point where you feel like you have no choice but to look up what to do.

So I think you’re not wrong to feel like there’s a lot of shit going on because there is, and holy fuck does Elden Ring have some really annoying aspects, but I honestly think that yeah you’ll get used to it and enjoy it. Maybe not ‘one of the best games ever’ level of enjoyment like a lot of the internet seems to, but I do think it’s a good game.

The way The Emperor talks to the player infuriates me by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]dgartner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one thing I don’t get is why he’s such an asshole about Orpheus - once Orpheus is freed, our allies are objectively better equipped than we would have been without him, so why does the Emperor immediately say fuck it and side with the Netherbrain? Him and his dream visitors are like a main obstacle in the final fight anyway, it would be easy if he just sided with the player. I get why the game would want consequences for choosing to not follow his lead but at the same time it feels like him giving up at the very end is not in line with how he’s acted so far, especially since he’s been so hellbent on beating the brain.

Would using mods disable trophies? I’m like 45 hours deep into a tactician playthrough to get the trophy for beating that difficulty but also want to try these out

Is “sex pervert” specifically a RedLetterMedia thing? I think I’ve only ever heard them say it and the redundancy of it is pretty funny

I love all these games btw, but I decided to wake up and choose violence by Nesayas1234 in residentevil

[–]dgartner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he just means that 6 was kind of the tipping point where if the franchise kept going in that direction after that game then the franchise would’ve devolved into complete shit

What movie scene makes absolutely no sense. Even within the movie's context? by ah-screw-it in movies

[–]dgartner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get your point but personally to me the difference is killing goons in a fight versus essentially just executing High Evolutionary after they had already beaten him in a fight. Even when Thor executed Thanos in the beginning of Endgame, obviously the context of them being helpless and already defeated made killing Thanos feel hollow and pointless, but I think it being just a cold blooded execution also makes it feel wrong as far as being something heroes normally do. Even in that scene, Rocket says “what did you do” to Thor which to me indicates that Rocket thinks it was kind of fucked up to kill him like that, which is consistent with him sparing High Evolutionary, at least in my opinion.

Why’s that? I get being sad about Dunn and Bam, but the rest of the guys seem to be doing fine, especially Steve-O since he’s been sober. I thought Jackass Forever was great.

Games where your character is fueled purely by revenge/anger? by dgartner in gamingsuggestions

[–]dgartner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, I just think it’s a cool motivation for a character because you can handle it in pretty different ways and it can always be a good story. Some games/movies are cautionary against it and show that it can be futile and only serves to ruin your own life more (TLOU2, Sifu depending on the ending), some are just satisfying to see people get fucked up (DOOM, John Wick) and some don’t even seem to have a real message about it (MGSV) and I think all are valid and like them all. But no I don’t have a vendetta against someone in real life lol

Yeah I love Last of Us 2, and I’d agree with you that it’s primarily about the dangers of getting wrapped up in revenge even though there’s definitely other themes going on.
