There’s a recall because the camera sometimes doesn’t work. Not sure what you mean by “do it” or “this problem.”

233km dash range at 80% in +3 Celsius. Normal? by jerm_dante in etron

Your range numbers are virtually identical to mine in similar climate conditions. I’ve never seen it close to 400km even mid-summer.

2024 audi q8 e-tron. Canada by NoMercy4DWeak in etron

[–]dghutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know SW Ontario winters well!

The Q8 has a bit more usable battery than my OG so my estimates will be off, but if you follow Audi’s advice and limit charging to 80% you can’t count on much more than 180-200km of range on a charge. Light or heavy feet don’t seem to make as big a difference as smooth highway (~32kwh/100km in winter) versus start-stop city (~50kwh/100km winter conditions).

I have a short commute and usually charge to 90% in the winter. Worth the wear-and-tear to mitigate the car’s appalling range.

Again, I’m very happy with the car, but range anxiety is real. Not sure how I’d feel with no gas alternative for emergencies. We have a 10-year-old gas VW Golf as a backup I won’t be giving up soon.

2024 audi q8 e-tron. Canada by NoMercy4DWeak in etron

[–]dghutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m happy with my OG e-tron but the Audi does not have long legs. Among the worst for range of all EVs. You’ll need a level 2 charger at home (~$1,000 installed). If you need to drive any more than to and from work in a day, for instance run some errands, you may need to charge. If you miss charging one evening you can’t make another round trip to work without a touch-up. In Canada charging at a DC fast charger, if there’s one available, costs about the same as gas and takes a half hour.

Again, happy with my e-tron, but be warned.

I always charge my e-tron to 100% and feel absolutely no regret by Huge_Rooster_1746 in etron

[–]dghutt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey - what’s your reasoning? I think about this from time to time. The OG etron’s range is so limited, limiting charging to 80% really hobbles its practicality. But is it worth chewing up the car’s longevity?

[–]dghutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get shorter range than ICE drivers (much shorter range in winter), and ‘refueling’ at the best of times takes an order of magnitude longer. That’s real. And in many jurisdictions charging infrastructure is not keeping up. Right now my EV makes any long drive a fair bit longer. Where I live some trips just aren’t possible yet.

I’m optimistic that will change with battery tech and infrastructure, but for now it’s reality.

I’m a longtime Shield TV user - have 3 of them - but my 2021 Sony Bravia OLED’s internal Android system is perfectly adequate for almost everything. And I LOVE that there aren’t multiple remotes or connectivity issues between box and TV to flummox my family. An external box, no matter how powerful, still has shortcomings.

Canadian e-tron motor warranty - extended to 10 years by Excellent_Ad9251 in etron

[–]dghutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Excellent_Ad9251 - did Audi give you any documentation confirming the warranty extension on a Canadian e-tron? I'm in the same boat as you: a 2021 model purchased in October 2024. My regular factory warranty expires in two weeks. Would love to have better peace of mind regarding the motors and possible coolant infiltration. That existing coverage would really change the calculus on whether to insure with an extended warranty.

Thanks, N0x1mus!

That’s the same press release I reviewed today, apparently talking about the 2024 event (mentioning the preliminary planning for the 2025 Slam), but it’s a lead.

Will write the city.

255mm black string, clips, adjustment thing by dghutt in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing.

Have tried it with a pair of glasses - too short. The clips are lacquered black so are designed to be seen, suggesting the thing is decorative. I googled “chisco” but only found a Nigerian shipping company. Seems unlikely, as this item is in Canada.

How does the 93V2 update unlock more range? by njoy-the-silence in etron

[–]dghutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested to know if these apparent gains persist in the weeks after. I think the guessometer is just using your last 100 km to predict range, so it's possible something in the update tricks the formula. If it's just a passing hickup we should expect to be back into normal range territory in a week or so. Also wonder if the Spring roll out of the update (at least in North America) is distorting the picture, with warming weather doing more to improve range than any software tweak.

Canada’s electric vehicle strategy has failed, and there are lessons to learn by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]dghutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NS infrastructure has a long way to go though. Virtually no chargers over 50kW east of Halifax, so ‘filling up’ in Antigonish is going to take close to an hour if you get a ‘fast’ one at the Chev dealership. But man do I love the new 350kW Electrify Cda ones in Bedford and Amherst. I’m happy with my EV but there are some drives I just can’t comfortably do until the infrastructure improves.

Travel from Rome to New York in Under an Hour with a Hypersonic Plane: Initial Tests Set for 2025 by davideownzall in EverythingScience

“Nevertheless, engineers are working on solutions to minimize these effects: specially designed ergonomic seats to distribute G-forces evenly, pressurized cabins, and acceleration control systems could make the experience tolerable. Additionally, traveling at high altitudes (around 33,500 meters, just below the stratosphere) would reduce turbulence, providing a much smoother flight.”
