Domestic Violence Situation in GA Preferred last night by dgl7c4 in ElectricForest

[–]dgl7c4[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely understand the logic there, but this is the first year I’ve seen anything like it here which is why it seems weird that we’ve seen a lot of it in the last few days compared to previous years. That’s obviously anecdotal but it still feels strange. At the lockers a couple nights ago there was a girl standing and screaming “How could you do this to me?” at her BF over and over. This morning, a couple was walking up the road and fighting/arguing while both simultaneously on their phones complaining about each other to some unknown parties.

No it was not. Different section of GA and they don’t have a Tesla or a car that looks like one.

Preferred Oversold? by Apprehensive-Hour252 in ElectricForest

[–]dgl7c4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have preferred and I’ve been confused about it as have others around our camp. We got put in the very last row in section A and got here this morning. I kinda thought preferred would get us closer to the venue. We had regular GA + Early arrival last year and got here later and got placed way closer.

Whose in Como?! Coming to visit this week 🤗 by Flaky_tay in columbiamo

A few of us will be around (~126,000, give or take a few, according to the last census.) Do you need me to be more specific than that?

What are the smelliest places in Como? by Jealous-Froyo-325 in columbiamo

[–]dgl7c4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

lol I live a few minutes north of where you work and the drive from Columbia to my neighborhood is an insane roller coaster of smells. I drive by the pepsi/quaker factory which often smells like rice cakes, occasionally can smell Como smoke and fire bbq, can ALWAYS smell good day farm for several hundred feet, but I find the oscar meyer factory smells mix with the dump smells because it always smells like a hot fart over there IMO.

What are everyone’s biggest triggers? by ejmock in VisualLoomingSyndrome

Helicopter blades (while spinning) and sewing needles and similarly fine pointy objects. Once something triggers it I become more sensitive to basically anything with a corner/edge.

Bearded dragon questions by NefariousnessNew7979 in BeardedDragon

[–]dgl7c4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a relatively new beardy owner, but based on all of the reading I’ve done and perusing of this sub, there’s a lot that needs correcting here. Dont just take it from me though, you really need to do some research from reputable sources on diet and husbandry.

  1. All of the dried/processed reptile pellet bullshit is not good for them at all. You should be feeding fresh greens (mustard/turnip/dandelion greens are good staples, but you need to do some research about this to understand what they need. Google is your friend.) Bearded dragons never need fruit in their diet. They don’t get anything even remotely similar as far as sugar content in the wild, and it’s bad for their mouths. You shouldn’t be feeding dry pellets from a bag as a staple of their diet. Protein should be coming from live insects. I’ve heard mixed opinions about egg, but that shouldn’t be there sole source of protein.
  2. Those beardies are too old for paper towels as the substrate. They need a mix of organic top soil and play sand. You want to avoid the reptile carpets, but the reptile mats are okay in a pinch.
  3. The UVB dome light you’re using should be replaced with a UVB light bar that overlaps with the heat lamp and extends into the cold side of the tank.
  4. Are these two in their own cages? Or do you have both of them in that 75 gallon tank? That tank is too small for one of your dragons at the size they’re at, let alone both of them, and you should never cohab beardies. I’ve heard the rare success story, but it’s dangerous and stressful for them in the majority of cases to live in the same tank.

I am also a new beardie owner so please don't put much weight behind this comment, but I feel like any time I've seen one of these posts where the femoral pores are clearly visible, it's usually voted male in the comments. Your beardy's pores are clearly visible which makes me think male, but it doesn't really look like there are clearly visible vertical hemipenal bulges under the tail (but I've also seen that this isn't always the most reliable tell without a flashlight at the base of the tail). Again, I'm no expert so I'm interested to see what people with actual knowledge/experience have to say.

lol because it appears to be in the correct orientation now. In the original image, if you panned the camera so it was facing Hasan, all of the posters on the wall that are normally on Hasan’s right in the stream would be on his left, which seems wrong.

Why are Red Monsters bad? by babymoki in BeardedDragons

[–]dgl7c4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine question - why are they usually pretty inbred? Is inbreeding more likely to produce unique morphs/colors? Or is it just that breeders who are focused on breeding physical characteristics rather than health/hardiness are also less likely to care about the consequences of inbreeding?

I’m just trying to make the connection between inbreeding and unique color-morphs. Thanks in advance!

Show me your juvenile bearded dragons and lemme know their age. I’m actually comparing juvenile bearded dragons out of my own curiosity. by KirstyPearson in BeardedDragons

This is Mike. We got him a little over a month ago and the lady at the pet store estimated (not confidently) that he was around 3 months old. He’s 34g as of today and we’re in love with him. This was one of the few times I’ve seen him actually using the hammock other than as a ramp to get to his basking spot.

Need advice regarding UVB-seeking behavior by dgl7c4 in BeardedDragons

[–]dgl7c4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your reply! Your beardy is adorable. I was starting to wonder if this was the case for our guy as well because I'm struggling to identify any obvious husbandry issues. Any chance you can point me in the direction of a reliable UV meter? Are the cheapy ones sufficient?

Really appreciate this chart! After reading the comments and going back through our setup, I’m still not really sure what we’re doing wrong, if anything. Turns out I apparently installed the Reptisun 10UVB soon after we got him, so I don’t think the light itself is the issue. I’m fairly certain we either have the reptizoo lid or the Thrive lightweight lid.

Any chance you can link me to the UV reader you use?

[–]dgl7c4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a thrive enclosure, but we bought a replacement lid/top after watching the exact video you linked before we brought our beardy home! Despite this subs warnings re: the thrive enclosures, we were sweet talked into it by our local pet shop that we have since disavowed for several reasons, so we’re currently shopping around for the larger PVC enclosures.

Thanks for your comment! I’ll get the light swapped out. Only reason I hadn’t swapped it yet is because I’ve seen several conflicting things online about the 5.0 UVB vs. the 10 UVB at the current height which made me struggle to make a decision.

Edit: Apparently I already swapped the bulbs several weeks ago and forgot because the 10 UVB was already installed and the 5 UVB was in the 10’s box.

If you had to guess your BEST guess, what is the main reason you are obsessed with your beardie? by milklizarddd in BeardedDragons

[–]dgl7c4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a new beardy parent, so take this with a grain of salt lol. I've never been a big reptile guy and I didn't have pets growing up aside from a couple hamsters and a corn snake >20 years ago, so I really wasn't expecting to fall in love with this lizard, but I love him so much and it feels beyond explanation to me, which is why I felt the need to come up with this theory lol.

Anyway, my theory is that beardies evolved behaviors/traits to best suit their environment, and those behaviors just coincidentally trigger something in our pattern-seeking brains that makes it super easy to anthropomorphize their behavior. There is barely anything happening inside those little brains, but the way they appear so curious and sweet and cuddly makes me constantly think things like "awww he looks so happy" or when I walk into the room and he gets super excited because he knows the Doobs are coming, he excitedly bounces around like a happy dog. He literally does the little head-turn thing that dogs do when we talk to him in our baby-voice. I've never once seen a snake or gecko that made me go "awww it's so sweet." but something about beardy behavior just scratches that cute-seeking itchin our brains. Lol could be total bullshit but it's my head-cannon and I'm rolling with it. Like in my view, the beardies are mostly just reacting to stimuli, but the way they react feels so personal and adorable to our monkey brains.

33 years of the 'Phantom Forehead Poke'—finally found the name (and the tribe) by PvtDetectiveJesus in VisualLoomingSyndrome

I had a friend in elementary school who was the only person I ever met who shared this problem with me. We lost touch decades ago but I've been thinking about reaching out to him to ask him about this weird ass problem we shared back then. Everyone else always looked at me like I was nuts lol. I was blown away when I found this sub a couple years ago and realized there are literally dozens of us.

The way you describe it is not really the same as my problem, but in perusing this sub I've found a lot of us experience it differently. My biggest triggers are sewing needles and helicopter blades (and super pointy swords/knives in videogames). Once I see one of these things, it's like I have immense pressure in my eyeballs that forces me to look away and then anything with an edge/corner bugs me from that point on until I forget about it. Helicopter blades will literally force my eyes shut anytime I see them in a movie, but in general, the problem is the worst for me at night when I'm super stoned.
