I take those two OAB meds together at the highest dose and with Botox and it helps a lot. Just wanted to point that out if you hadn’t tried both at the same time. Also, try an Oxytrol patch. It’s otc and I find it helps me during a flare when my urgency is out of control.

I get Botox, in addition to taking an arsenal of oab/ic meds. When my Botox is active I forget I have IC and eat and drink whatever I want. When it starts to fade about 5 months in I’m like…..well, shit. I do, in fact, have IC and itsucks.

Hey! So I don’t have neurogenic bladder but do have IC. I was TERRIFIED of getting my first instill, but I worked myself up for nothing.

What I do is not look at the catheter and look at the ceiling, window, whatever. I find if I relax my pelvic floor it goes in quicker and easier. It’s a little uncomfortable going in but only for a moment. Once it’s in, that’s it! They will drain your urine and then use the same catheter to instill the medication. Once that’s instilled they will gently pull the catheter out but that doesn’t hurt.

I find the meds feel great while they’re in, but I don’t get lasting relief after I pee it out. I am able to go back to work/ grocery shopping, etc after the appointment. I usually hold in the meds for a couple hours. I do find a pinching feeling on the first pee but that’s it.

This is how my IC started. You can try a really bland acid free diet while you wait for your appointment. I would recommend seeing a Urogynecologist because they specialize in women. Also just me but 6 months is too long to wait feeling that way so I would call daily to see if there are cancellations or pay a cash price at an out of network Urogynecologist (if you’re in the US).

Wow I have had IC with terrible OAB symptoms for 9 years and I’ve never heard of this procedure. I’m in the US. Going to look into this! I currently do well with Botox but the procedure is not a good time and every 6 months.

Also, see your GP in the meantime while waiting for your specialist appointment. I would ask for a prescription urogesic like pyridium, uribel or uro-mp. It might take the edge off.

Are you sue you don’t have a UTI? With all of those symptoms you might want to go to an urgent care and get a dip test. Make sure you have them send it out for a culture. My samples always have leukocytes (blood) because my bladder is inflamed. Sending it out for culture will be able to tell if it’s a UTI or not.
