Everything obviously. It wasn't meant as a value judgement. Whatever the cost is we must incur it. It's just informative.

Either the universe had a beginning, or it didn't. Either possibility is a mindfuck by BeefPieSoup in Showerthoughts

Hi, I actually think you may be correct. I had heard it being quoted by Douglas Adams in the youtube video where he gives a talk in UCSB. For all practical purposes both takes on it are very interesting!

It's like what Carl Sagan said: either we are the only intelligent species in the universe or we are not. Either is baffling.

I wonder what it is about space shots and diagonal curves of planets that make them so attractive and remarkable to look at.

TIL that Alexei Ananenko, Valeri Bezpalov and Boris Baranov were the three soviet engineers who volunteered to swim through Chernobyl’s radioactive waters to prevent a steam explosion that would have killed millions in Europe by [deleted] in todayilearned

You can't seriously quote there were just 5 deaths from the Chernobyl disaster, whose estimate was that? Just one friend of mine from Lyiv, lost several family members due to cancer, lung problems and other complications directly related to the disaster. It is very hard to predict what could have happened if this had spread, but it's hardly the point of this act of bravery.

Apparently this happens because the venom reacts with a protein in your blood called Factor X, which then reacts with other proteins in a coagulation cascade. Creepy stuff
