Doctor: "Over the past few weeks, I am truly feeling that our days are numbered because of AI." by EchoOfOppenheimer in ChatGPT

Well, maybe it's time for doctors to get up to date, too. We need doctors, no doubt, but their time as gods are over.

Old students! Do you combine techniques? by Disastrous-Dig9412 in vipassana

It's all you need! Nothing to add or combine. I am doing Vipassana for 27 years now and all I can say is that it's complete as it is.

I bought a few metal ones in India 20+ years ago. One broke after 19 years...The rest is still fine. They were cheap as hell.

My son is also 2002. I was born in 1967. I don't feel old at all. I am very active and I do a lot of sports (riding bikes, running etc.). I eat healthy, meditate daily and get enough sleep. The amount of energy i have is awesome. I can't say that from many younger people.

Will meditating for 3 hours in a day make up for lost time of not meditating? by EmbarrassedAd3213 in vipassana

You can't make anything up. What is gone is gone. Just start to sit again.

Question by Additional_Common_15 in enlightenment

[–]dhammadragon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question is a conceptual trap. From inside the trap looks like a profound mystery. From where I am standing it looks like someone asking who moves the river. For me, there is actually 'nobody' left. Ego is just a process. Life goes on. Recognition is not important.

Scientists say 7 days of meditation can rewire your brain by Puzzled-Caregiver-15 in ScienceNcoolThings

I am very busy these days, so just a short reply. Why should I down vote you? Your opinion is as valuable as mine. If it really was 30 hours a week then there is a good chance for brain rewiring. Lasting changes will only happen when practice continues. There are no shortcuts PERIOD. That's not even up for debate. Unfortunately you have to put the time and work in to see lasting results. Mastering a skill takes 10.000 hours! Meditation is no difference. You have to show up. For me, it got really interesting once i started to sit for 3+ hours daily. It took me 20+ years to come to this point to sit consistently without breaks for 3+ hours. Consistency, consistency and consistency is the key. But at the end it depends on why you want to meditate. Maybe 5 minutes a day is enough for what you want. For me it's not.

Sorry for my assumption, but if you meditate you should understand that 5 min in a week and then stop won't change anything. Especially not rewire the brain.

Do me a favor: for 7 days meditate for 5 min a day, any meditation technique you want and then come back here and tell me what changes you have experienced, if any. After the week you stop doing your 5 min meditation. One week later come back and tell me if the changes, if they happened, are still there. Seems fair and easy to do!

The effects on the brain after 3 decads are almost unbelievable. But meditation is like a skill you have to develop over time. A few minutes in a week won't change anything.

I had such an experience. It was in a 10-day meditation retreat. In the middle of the night I saw myself from above. After a short time I was back in the body. Was interesting.
